What's the deel with these baits? I have owned two of them and both split badly and lost their paint jobs within a couple dozen casts. I know there is no problem sending them back, but wondered if anyone else experienced this. I have many other wood jerkbaits that have many fish and hours of casting under their belts with no splitting or paint problems. MAtt

Matt I have 3 or them and all are doing same as yours. Boro has three and his look like a dog chewed them with less then a dozen times out. I don't know anyone who has a magic maker that doesn't look this way.....but they catch a lot of IN fish!

Matt, I have noticed alot of my wood baits seem to split in the cooler water, less than 55 degrees and I see it alot in water temps below 50.

Yeah, magic makers suck. You can send them to me and I will properly dispose of them.

I wasn't refering to the fish catching ability of the bait or the one who throws it. I simply think that 30 bucks is a bit much to ask for a poor quality musky bait. Baits like the new Slammer jerks and cobbs are twice the quality for less money. If I'm gonna spend big bucks for a glide bait I'll take a hughes any day.

Mat,
I couldn't agree with you more. Mania has never had a problem about taking care of a defective lure when asked. They are very good about that. But, if you will do me a favor I will do you one in return. Would you please send me both of those magic makers that I may investigate the finish on them to see what is causing the problem? In return, I will sand them down and redo them for you so they won't peel.
When you start out with something new like that you go through a lot of changes to better the product and you learn the proper working application as you go. All woods being simular but yet much different, there are many reasons why this can happen and we thought we had them mostly all licked. But being able to see first hand what is happening we can more readily correct and improve the quality of the product.
I, myself, have five of the magic makers that are from the beginning to the present in finish processes and only one did as yours did. The finish is hard to work with on that one and certain criteria must be met exactly or it won't hold up long. The other four all have different finishes on them and they look fine ( except for tooth marks)
I have re-painted many, many wooden lures for people from all over and though I won't mention the maker of the lures ( has nothing to do with their quality control) as that would be improper to do in respect to them because thay are good lures with good work involved. But with wood, it happens. No lure is indistructable ( unless you are willing to pay the price to make it that way) Price is always the most common thing I hear about but than the arguement goes with boat prices, rod and reel prices, tow vehicle prices and on and on. But lures are supposed to be cheap. Why?
Idealisticly, higher prices bring higher quality, but, has your boat, rod, reel, car or truck and etc. never broke down?
So the point being, if you will send both of those magic makers to me to review I will find the problem and correct it for you and all you have is shipping to me, I will take care of the rest for you. It's the least I can do and we both win.
Sorry for being so long winded but I wanted you to know that your concern is my concern as I painted them in the first place and would like to correct the problem for you.
Thank you for your time and don't give up on the magic maker or you will miss many fish.
I even took a 28 1/2 inch walleye on one of mine at the close of the Season for me last year and a friend of mine got a 29 inch "eye" on it.
Thanks and many releases,
ghoti

Can't ask for more than that. It's great to see a businessman with integrity.

Thanks Guys,
Thanks for being understanding and patient. Our shop is filled with integrity right down to all the workers. We have a great bunch of employees and they are proud of their work ( and should be). Customers are important to us and we try to make sure that they are getting what they are paying for in the finish process as that is what we do.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, we are not free of complications and we readily admit to that. So the honest and right thing to do is to acknowledge it and correct it where we can. You as our custom customer or a customer of the companies we paint for deserve the best possible for your money. If we can, ALL, work with that idealoligy ( ? ) in mind we can all be satisfied within ourselves.
The Crappie will have to be purchased through Mania but I will speak with them and see how we can arrange that one so you know it done as mentioned in last post.
I do want you to understand that I am really behind on my custom work at this point and am trying to catch up but it will be done as soon as possible and you have my word on that.
Thank all of you again and many releases to all,
Stan Durst
