Are #8 blades and magnum #8 blades a different thing? ( also #9's/magnum #9's) and if so, how much size difference?

Mags are thicker but typically the same size.
Example: Regular .020 / Mag .040

There usually is a difference. The places I have gotten blades from usually have a reg. # 8 colorado like you see on bass spinners, wally rigs, or something like a show girl. While the "mags" they sell are closer to what you see on most big clanger flash bucktails. The reg. 8's l I have measured around 2" long x 1 3/8" wide & the mags are closer to 2 3/4" x 1 5/8" wide. They may also offer a different thickness to be aware of as well. The thicker blades will pull harder.

Just saw what Sidejack posted...I guess it can depend where you get them from too. Some places will advertise them differently. Certainly true..some may just sell the thicker ones as a mag but are the same size. Many places actually have a size difference though, hopefully you can see the specs or a size chart to compare them.

i do know that my JR DOUBLE COWGIRLS are supposed to have "mag" #8 colorado blades. the thickness is .020 not .040, but the overall size looks to be ONE size larger like a #9. my spanky's with "mag" #8 colorado blades have the .040 thickness and are regular #8 colorado blade size. so i don't know whats right.

Magnum and Colorado are two different blade styles. The thickness has nothing to do with it as both blade styles are available with a thicker version.
