Location: Central Wisconsin | I've been seeing that most if not all of the new aluminum boats have a vinyl cockpit floor. Just wondering who has fished out of boats with the vinyl cockpit floor. I'd still go with everything else carpeted but sounds like most guys are liking the vinyl cockpit for ease of cleaning if needed. Just wanted to check with other musky fisherman to see if you guys have an more pros or cons for going with the vinyl or staying with all carpet.

Location: Hayward, WI | The vinyl can be slippery when cold is about only complaint I have.
You can get snap-in carpet for the cockpit too and choose between the two each time out if wanted. |

Location: Minnesota | My dad had a Crestliner back in the 80 s that had vinyl did not like it much looks cheap hard to clean slippery when wet.may be the new boats are better |

Location: Lake Elmo, MN | Best way I have ever found to clean carpet on my 620 ??? Take the cover off and tow it at 60mph down the highway in a driving rainstorm. Not a light sprinkle, but a deluge.
That carpet gets spotless.
People look at me funny when I am on the side of the road heading into a storm and I'm taking my cover OFF instead of putting it on. |

| Vinyl is slippery either with ice on it or with Musky/Pike slime on it. If you plan to catch fish - get carpet! |

| I have a Crestliner Canadian 18' and its all vinyl. I have had this boat for ten year and it still looks new.
Its easy to clean, with a pressure washer and a deck brush and I have not slipped on it in ten years.
I bought this boat because it did not have carpeting and I got a great deal on because everyone wants carpeting in there boats. |

| My Lund Alaskan is all vinyl and I love it. I have added rubber anti-fatigue matting and it makes it very comfortable and not slippery at all. Very easy to clean and doesn't hold water. Much better than carpeting in my experience.

Location: Vilas County, WI | Was researching this topic and came across this thread from last year.
A couple discussion points I've discovered in some internet research:
1.) The vinyl cockpit becoming hot to the touch when baked in the sun all day, i.e. out fishing. This being an issue for a bare foot fisherman, pet, or young kids who may play on the floor. Any truth to the vinyl cockpit's getting hot?
2.) I've read that newer boat carpets are 'plastic' based and not 'fabric' based like carpet previously used in boats. The new carpeting allegedly makes them way more dirt/stain resistant and easier to clean. Thoughts on this?
I appreciate the feedback. I'm hung up on what option to pursue.

Location: St. Lawrence River | Yes the vinyl floor will get hot when fishing especially and not moving rapidly.
My vinyl does not seem to get slippery when raining. Maybe in the extreme cold I don't know.
