Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | I understand Michigan raises Musky in this lake for stocking elsewhere. Does this mean that most of the fish are small or are there some leftover lunkers waiting to be fooled? Is it an extreemly heavily fished lake because of the Muskie populations? It is about two hours away for me and didn't want to make the trip for shakers or to combat fish in a crowd. Thanks for any help on this lake -lobi

Posts: 3890 | The couple old MI stocking lakes of which I'm familiar are great for fishing. I suspect it is because the stocking lakes typically had bigger minimim sizes, plus, I think the DNR prevented taking the muskies through the ice by tip up guys. The one lake I know the best has excellent populations of big bass, perch, walleye and skis, even thogh it is a fairly small and very pressured water. But, because of the fishing pressure, special techniqies are necessary to consistently boat nice fish. I'll give you an obvious hint on one good approach - bring an extra flashlight.

Posts: 3890 | Hiya Mike of the Mighty Hulbert Brothers, No, I don't know Hudson. I assumed it is the southern half of lower MI. I was just guessing it was pressured from my 15 years living in southwestern MI - where all the lakes are pressured, and especially the few known musky lakes. The one I know best is sure ugly on the summer weekends - guys are actually quued up to fish the obvious structure, one boat after another all day. All the while, being buzzed by PWC's, sprayed by waterskiiers and enjoying near misses by lumbering pontoon boats whose drivers can't seem to see fishing boats. Pathetic, especially to a somewhat reclusive soul like myself. Not pressured is good. Where is Hudson?

As for the musky in Hudson, im not sure there are a lot of real big ones in there. The dnr didnt have any big ones in the nets this year. Mostly mid 30s fish. Pics of the eggtaking are on michiganmuskiealliance.org.

I have seen one, and pictures of another. I would say my avg. size on that lake is somewhere close to 40 Hulbert

We normally stick around closer to southwest michigan, and fish the puddles over here. I think Hudson is going to be a bit busy for the opener. We are gonna jump out on a small lake that nobody seems to like, and see how we can do. Edited by spieg 4/23/2003 11:23 AM

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | spieg..thanks for the link to Michigan Musky Alliance. Those little ones in the pics will have to do for me for now because the season on Lake St Clair doesn't open until June 7th. I can't wait that long.

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Update for the opener on Hudson... Skunked! 8 hours of hard casting with two guys. Got all the dust from the winter off all the lures. Was about 2 to 3 dozen boats on a 500 acre lake. I only saw one fish caught all day, 35 inch or so. Lots of trolling going on too but I don't think they did any better. Mike Hulbert probably did better, he knows the lake. Anyone else do any better for Michigans opener? -lobi

![]() Posts: 131 Location: Kalamazoo, MI | Got skunked on Campau, and theres a report of another skunking on Bankson on the michigan muskie alliance forums. Hopefully tomorrow will be better! We had a few follows on Campau anyway, and the bass were hitting bucktails like crazy.
