Location: Minnesota. | Chris, while I've not done it myself (I didn't feel a need) I think I'd do this.
Tape a football-shaped lead weight to your bait and test it for buoyancy as well as location in a tub of water. Mark the loc. when satisfied.
Then I'd take and hold it firmly in a drill press vise and drill several holes maybe 5/16" in dia. or so in line, not too deep and sized to suit. Then clean out the "web" between them. You have to space them or the drill will "walk" on ya...Take your time!!
Hammer out the weight to slip fit into the recess and epoxy in.

| replace hooks with thicker wire hooks (4X) ,,, will add a little weight ,,, also,, a wire leader and a heavy snap will put the lure in a nose-down attitude --- jimjimjim |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I would want to know exactly where the through wire runs before drilling. Without knowing if I was going to drill I would make smaller holes and drill one on each side of center so I missed the wire. |

| You could always go "old school" and wrap the hooks with lead solder. Berm's also makes inserts that work for plastic lures and you can then use screw in weights. |

| Just buy some weighted leaders from Stealth Tackle, no need to weight Suicks anymore you can just switch leaders depending on the depth you need to run. They come in 1/2oz, 3/4oz and 1oz. I use the 1oz on the 10" Suicks- wood ones and the new Hi's. That way if you need to use that Suick to run real shallow again you still can by switching back to a regular leader

| Wrap solder around the shank of the hooks.
Stick the solder in the eye, wrap around the hook, cut both ends. If you have too much weight, cut some more of the solder off.
Put it on as many of the hooks as needed for the action you desire. If you want the lure to run nose down, put it on the front hook.
Quick and easy way to do it in the boat. |
