Big V - 50.5" on an black/orange topraider back in 2003. Then was lucky enough to get a 53.5" two days later on a stomper. | |||

Location: 31 | 123 - 3/11/2013 4:12 PM Jerrry Newman...do you still use the Chugger?? I recall reading an article years ago in Muskie mag about your use of this bait, if my memory serves. Guest
Yup, good memory... I think that was early 90s.
I still use it and it’s still an extremely effective bait under the right conditions… like almost anytime in the summer/early fall when big muskies are present. However, I've been forced to use it sparingly these days because my elbows are pretty well shot from casting (I use to call it chugger elbow). I’d say working my large chugger is the equivalent of burning a x13... and as some of you reading this painfully know, eventually something has to give.

Posts: 238 | As I was reading the posts in this thread I didn't see a repeat lure until about the 9th post. That's when I decided to do a quick tally. Those of you with tackle boxes full of lures, you will not be disappointed - you've been right all along... you really DO NEED ALL of those lures and there is not a magic lure!!! Up through Guest's 3/14 at 12:09 post I counted 40 DIFFERENT lures (more, but I categorized some of the same types - like double8/10s as one lure and various bucktails as another lure) and of those only 17 lures listed multiple 50s! Here's the stats I recorded so far: bucktails - 16 double 8/10s - 12 bulldawg - 8 hawg wobbler - 6 top raider - 5 Suick - 5 Medusa - 4 Grandma - 3 Tallywacker 3 Eddie Bait 3 Believer - 3 Creeper - 3 Slammer crank - 2 shumway flasher - 2 Depth Raider - 2 Wiley - 2 Low Rider - 2 ...and the rest with only one 50... (in the order they were listed in this thread) Pacemaker Lindy rig & leech 800 spoon plug Windells Chugger Bondy Bait Weagle SS Shad Dadson Blade Bait Baby Shallow Raider Cobra Jig Pig Jackpot Tippy River Darter Creature Phantom Salmo crank Hardhead Loke crankbait Cisco Kid Teddie Bait Thunderstick Muskie Mulisha Softtail Slasher BTW, I've got many of the lures listed above - all of them anxiously waiting to be involved with my 1st 50!
