Uh no, not a dedicated muskie boat, but I bet it works fine. I was stationed in AK and WA from 98-08 so I've seen plenty of those and just like you say, that's an awesome salmon/sturgeon rig!

2000 Crestliner 1650 Fishhawk w/ a 90 hp Johnson towed by a 98 Ford Explorer 5.0.

I'd like to get into something bigger, but this one will have to do for a few more seasons.

08 Dodge Ram pulling a 97 Alumicraft 165SC with a 70 Evenrude. Like to have a larger boat, but, for S.W. Iowa, it's big enough. Doug

07 Toyota Tacoma--02 skeeter 1790t. I installed springs and air bags on the truck to get my front tires back on the ground and my headlights out of the trees. Plenty of power to pull the boat but stopping is scary. Not to sure how much longer the tranny's going to hold up to everyday towing. MPLS traffic has convinced me that i need a more capable truck for the upcoming season.

Crestliner TS 202 w/ a tandem axle pulled by an 03 GMC 1500HD Sierra, its got the 6.0L and she likes gas. About 10-11MPG's towing and 13 or so without the boat. But, it pulls it with no problem, and power to pass if needed. It has been pulled by my buddie's GMC that has the 5.3 liter and there is a BIG difference.

Can anyone tell me any "basic" rules as far as gas-mileage and towing and differences between a V6 and a V8. I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee and during the season, I get around 13.5 miles/gallon towing my 680T Ranger. The Jeep has about 100,000 miles and I am getting ready to buy another SUV. Just looking for some basic info such as "a V8 is better for towing because etc..." if that is the case. I know there are some newer V6's that are coming stock with 270 hp as in the Toyota 4Runner which to me is lots of power?

Thanks,

Chas Martin

All things being equal, the V8 is the way to go, no doubt about it. Things have gotten complicated and I think there is more to it than just a V8 or V6. For instance, you can get 3 different trannys on a GMC, a 4.10, a 3.73 and a 3.5? If your always pulling something, get the 4.10, if mileage is your no. 1 priority, get the 3.5. That being said, I would certainly think a V6 would pull your boat without too much effort. If not, get one of those chips to increase horsepower. I think they are about $400+/- and I know a few guys who have them and love them. A word of caution though, I think they void warranties.

Found a pic of the rig! 96 Champion 191DC Elite w/ a 96 150 Merc on the back. Swapped the trolling motor pictured for a 101 Terrova and put a 520C on the front and a 27C at the console. Little bit of an upgrade from the 1991 Alumacraft 165 CS that was beat to hell!

Looks great, Mike, and very similar to the boat I just ordered. Do you know what color(s) you have there? The hardest part about the whole ordering process for me was choosing colors!

Black on top, Midnight Cherry PolyFlake on the bottom. I need to get it buffed, 7 years old, but I should be able to get it somewhat sparkly again.
