30" tiger. Spinnerbait trolling for whatever on Clear lake in my new jon boat probably 20 years ago.
Caught a few more on Waconia using the 2" shadling trolling for walleyes in the early 90's
The fish that got me started muskie fishing was caught on waconia casting to shore while my friends boat had stalled. Hooked it in about 1' of water using the shadling and 6# test, 38" muskie begining of November.

The first muskie I caught on purpose was while trolling a Bionic bucktail, it was a 48" giant and I did not have a camera with me. I released it. Took me two more years to catch another as big and get a photo so I could get a replica made.

33" when I was eight years old on an old Strike King 5/8 oz. spinnerbait, thought I was snagged! Caught a 30" a few years later on an 8" Jake, raised/hooked/lost and caught many fish since then!

trying to remember but im pretty sure my fish musky was caught on a black and silver spinnerbait while fishing for bass. she was 35 inches and that started my passion for muskys. pretty much threw down the bass gear and spent most of my time musky fishing after that.

First hooked? Or first brought to the boat? My first hooked struck a 5" jointed, knock off minnow lure in loud firetiger. It hit--to my complete surprise--while I was casting from the bank of a creek near where it joins the Allegheny River. It broke the line after a ten minute tussle. First boated came a long time thereafter on a jointed 8" Depthraider in, of all things, chart. pikie. Never was I so glad to see a fish. At least it confirmed that they existed--I was starting to wonder, though the first hooked had shown itself on a rocket-like leap out of the water as soon as it felt the hooks. The second fish was a long time coming too.

Creek Chub Pikie jointed minnow: Early 80's, I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, my dad took me up to Century Lodge on Eagle Lake. We got an "indian" guide, (Stanley Gardener) to take us around and after catching what seemed like hundreds of hammer handle pike we asked him if he knew where to catch a muskie. He took us to the first spot and handed my dad a globe and said "cast" while pointing at a submerged boulder. The water exploded as a "huge" muskie jumped clear out of the water, but missed the bait. After a few more casts we motored across the bay to another submerged boulder in a bit deeper water. The guide handed my dad a Creek Chub and told him where to cast. On the second cast my dad hooked into his first musky, a 42". We kept that fish and had it mounted- makes me smile every time I see that mount. After that fish my dad asked me if I wanted to cast the Creek Chub. I casted that bait for the next three days and caught my first muskie (a 28"? tiger) on the last day of our trip. I've had the fever ever since...

On a white buzz bait while fishing for bass. Had been fishing for muskies earlier that day, nothing was moving, so decided to give bucketmouth a try, and after a few nice ones a 40+ 'skie decided to show itself. Was my first real follow. Shortly after that she decided to eat it as I burned the buzz bait back to the boat. Never forget the feeling of landing my first one.

Early 60's in Michigan. Trolling a flatfish. Don't remember the length but remember it wasn't long enough to be a keeper.

Growing up watching Bob Mehsikomer, I thought the only two lures to throw were the awaker and jackpot. Caught my first on the awaker...best friend got his first on a jackpot. Both were hi-30inchers.

First fish for me was a real challange. Was the summer of 96. Worked for the IDNR and fished some strip mine lakes every night after work with my cousin. First we'd get some gills for catfish bait then bass fish till dark and cat fish till about midnight. Well one evening while throwing a Manns deep diver for bass I had a big fish grab the lure right at boatside turn its head cut the 10lb mono and swin into the depths. I instantly started shaking and hit my knees on the floor of the boat. Cousin says what happened? I said musky, Big Musky! We sat there for a few minutes and believe it or not the fish shook the lure and it came floating up... Got her two weeks later (August 11 only fish date I remember to this day) fifty yards from original sighting on the same rod, line, lure but after that first time we both had leaders on everynight whenever we hit that area of shoreline. We hand landed her actually got good measurements and had a poloroid camera in the boat then released her. It was a 48" Tiger. We had no idea what we had and never thought about keeping her but with good measurements it creamed the state record and would still have it today... Took me 13 Years to beat that fish for length (Pure) but I doubt I will ever get a bigger tiger that that one. Been Cursed ever since...

Good thread.

First musky came while crappie fishing and attached itself to my crappie.

First targeted musky I caught was on the infamous Black Skirt, Nickle blade Double cow girl. In fact a little more than half of my fish have come on that bait or a similar one of the same color combo. Best color combo out there, well for blades anyway

Caught my first musky on a black and silver Bill Norman DR3 that a friend gave to me and said, "here, you'll catch your first musky on this thing."
It was 48.75 inches long and I caught it on February 5th 2009 at 3:30 on a snowy afternoon while fishing by myself. Man! I can still see that big silver flash when she hit...
Catching that fish has had a big impact on how I have spent most of my free time since.

At the time a 2nd hand Reef Hawg it's kinda brown aka brownie. With a magnafying glass you might even find some paint still on her! She rests retired on the wall above my chair at the cabin with many fish to her credit. I thought all Reef Hawgs were sent from heaven back then, now I know only SOME are!!

Mepps Muskie Killer, gold blade, squirrel skirt. (31")
My wife's first was at the same resort (Fireside Lodge) the year before on a #5 Mepps, yellow body, gold blade, squirrel skirt. Her's was 35". She also caught a 37" northern on the same lure, same day, same spot. That started the lure's nickname "magic". That day pretty much hooked us.

Caught my first muskie on a sucker fishing with a guide. When I set the hook I thought it was a shark! I must have made a ton of commotion because after that 36" ski was in the net, the guide said to me that from this day forward I will always call this spot on the lake orgasm point.

Walleye Suick on Baby Lake in Northern MN....38"....this is where I grew up learning how to toss baits. Would have to throw the 14 ft. lund and 10 hp johnson in the back of the truck....unload it in the deep sand....get unstuck...go fish...load it back up...get unstuck....head home. Life was GREAT back then! Would have been in the 80's BTW.

I got my first when I was five years old on a silver cisco kid. 48.5 inches long. I caught a handful more between then and the time I was twelve. My dad started hunting more then fishing after that so I bass fished around home until I was 15 and then it was back to muskies ever sense.
