I don't see it replacing a 14N on a light H flex rod for burning small stuff...

Why do you think that? It seems like the "low-profileness" and thumb bar would be much more desired. And you'd have more line pick up, too, I think. Around 36" with Trinidad and 43" with Tranx, if I'm thinking of the right reel.

Simple weight, the Tranx is more along the lines of the 16NA in size and weight so if you like a lighter setup for burning small stuff there is still a place for the 14. Ergonomics and balence of the lighter reel on the lighter action and weight rod simple as that.

Will it burn lighter stuff absolutly...like it isn't even there.

Just to clarify, you're saying that weight-wise the Tranx is around 19 oz, or significantly heavier than a 400TE (~12 oz)?

To be accurate I don't know the weight but in general it is closer to the 16NA in overall presence and ergonomics than it is to the 400TE, like a 700TE after a few weeks on Jenny Craig...

Anyone know why they gave it a 'T' name instead of 'C'? (by shimano's naming convention, trolling reels have names starting w/ a 'T', casting reels start w/ a 'C')

I think they name saltwater gear with t

I was wondering the same thing. They must seem to think it has more uses in saltwater than fresh, which I can see being true. There's a ton of different species you can throw big baits to in saltwater, and this reel is going to make anyone doing so quite happy I would imagine.

Anyone else curious as to why, with such a wide spool, the levelwind disengages during the cast?

Low profiles usually get away with it because the levelwind sits further in front of the spool so the angles that the line makes from the levelwind to the spool aren't as sharp.

I would've preferred a synchronized levelwind also, but Larry Dahlberg told me on his forum that the levelwind holds up awesome. He had the drags cinched (25 pounds) and caught tuna up to 100 pounds and the levelwind wasn't a liability.

Currados are like that, and cast way farther because of it.. The spool can spin alot faster without moving the line guide back and forth with it..

Looking forward to at least checking one out,,

Avet makes leftys because one of the owners is a lefty. It is sad shimano is so selective in models they release not having this option, there is an obvious demand to some degree of lefty reels. I agree with edalz, but only 30% or less of responses to this reel(on this particular thread) are from leftys, thats probably not enough to justify production. Its to bad really, sounds like it has what most of us want from a reel.

All my friends fish lefty's, all the pro's I know fish right hand reels... I even know few pros that told me that they prefer left hand wind reels but they won't switch.

I tried so hard to switch to right hand wind reels, but I just couldn't. I even won't fish salmon in my best friends boat in the summer because all his downrigging reels are right hand wind.

In my humble opinion, the demand is big enough.

Larry Dahlberg is showcasing this reel, and are host of the bucktail burning contest at Chicago Muskie Expo...do any of you guys think you will beat him in the contest...?
I am sure the launch of this reel, and that contest has something to do with eachother.

Open up the new Tranx, all internals oversize and high quality. Would not expect any less from Shimano. AMAZING what Shimano creates.

Looks like a great reel but if it doesn't come in a left hand retrieve model that's a deal breaker. I retrieve both spinning and conventional reels with my left hand and even though I've tried cannot cast and retrieve lures with my right hand. I can use my right hand to retrieve heavy saltwater boat outfits where I'm not working the rod just reeling in bait every once in a while though. I'm right handed also.

Have you guys emailed Shimano and told them you want left hand retrieve reels? The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hey Richard, The frame is all metal though thicker than the Curado 300, Right side plate metal, Left side plate thick -graphite/plastic. Thumb bar, slides, clutch cam all oversize. I know you love reels and supertuning them like me but this model will need no extra upgrades. Come see me at the Chicago Musky show. -Mark

Right question, Jeff g.
If they are booked and / or pre-sold, should already be assigned a price.
What is the price?

Customers are willing to put down a deposit knowing there guaranteed a reel. They know it's roughly a $500 reel
