If I'm looking for a low sitting wtd I love my 8 inch vipers. I have a 10 inch weagle but if there is more than a slight chop it seems to have issues, but is fantastic when it's calm. If I'm looking for something that rights a little higher in the water or is more of a "bobber" i love my fish stix HD.

Does anyone favor the baby Weagle over the 10" in certain situations?

I like the 10" when throwing at jet skis and other boats getting too close - It really has distance! Other than that, I prefer the baby.

anyone have any experience and opinions of the musky safari water moccasin?
its looks so girthy I guess i wonder about hook ups, but that makes me think that it pushes some major water.

thanks

I have one and I think it looks good on calm water but any chop and I have an issue working it well (could be me). I like the weagle.

I've been using the water moccasin for the past two seasons and I really like it. Makes a lot of commotion, rides low in water, and I've had good success with hookups. It's worked well for me in calm water to moderate chop...haven't really tried it enough in a heavy chop to comment on it's effectiveness in that respect.

I just bought one of the new Phantom Viper softtails from Aaron at muskytackleonline. Looking forward to throwing that in a few weeks. Cool thing about that bait, i got the all black one, is I can change out tail colors to give it an extra color flash, if the black/black is not effective. Plus I get more use out of the spare tails I have for other softtailed Phantoms. Only the 7.5 tails work with the new viper softtail though, I believe.

Musky Tackle Online rocks! I just picked up a Viper from him as well...but not the softail one. I was happy to see he added these. It's been one of my favorites for a long time. They always run great, move a bunch of water, and catch big fish!

Owned a jackpot. Good action, but missed many fish.

Owned a fish stick. Had the front hook hang up 19 times in the first 20 casts with the bait. Very frustrated with it, + the wood digs appeared only after about 2 hours use. Very soft wood. Did not like the bait.

Bought a Satisfier. Very little sound from bait. Besides it sunk below surface if you did not keep up the cadence. Did not like bait.

Bought a Weagle. Have about 10 times the amount of time on it as the fishstick with very few digs. Great swoosh (sound), and does a great job of attracting fish + good hookups. Weagle for ME!!!

A question for all you Weagle users, and other WTD users that need fairly calm water to work the bait. What do you use for a WTD when the chop gets to be too much for the Weagle or other WTD? Do you just throw WTD when it is fairly calm?

If you do you are missing out on a lot of opportunities!

Travis,

I've thrown weagles into about a foot and a half chop and been fine with them. Definitely don't put them away in the wind. What WTDs do you like in the chop?

Fish Stick HD in all conditions. Rides high, yet doesn't get blown out of the water.

I do now own a 10" Weagle so I'll see for myself how they work in the wind. I had one of the original Cady weagles that just was a pain once you got too much chop. Perhaps I just had one of the heavier ones.

My Cady weagles are all retired now, so I'm only throwing the Mojo weagles. They work fine in all conditions for me. Last year I did notice times where the 10"er pulled fish out better than the 8"er on calm days for some reason. The 8" was golden for pretty much any weather though. It would have been a miracle to not see someone in my boat throwing one last year.

I would say 10" weagle, Havanna Jackpot, Weagle, Jackpot...I like the bigger weagle better than the other smaller version although I own and have caught fish on both...same with the Havanna Jackpot over the regular Jackpot...just my preference

Love the Jr. One eyed willy. Sweet little bait. I think it's a 1/4" shorter than a jackpot and has the same diameter as a Weagle or reg. one eyed willy. Super easy bait to work and big fish seem to like it too. For medium chop, a Homewrecker works good and for BIG waves I like fishstick HDs. Like others have said there is a time and place for each type of WTD. However, I find myself throwing the Jr. the most.

You never here anything out of the MI Seducer. It looks like a giant luckycraft sammy. Anyone ever give one a try? i have a couple, but feel they are too big for the local muskies, but they are interesting baits with a big, loud rattle.

I thought the same exact thing. I bought 1 and played with it quite a bit and really liked the action. It moved good worked slow on glass days. In rough water in made a racket. That being said by the time I gave up on it I only had one hit and lots of hook rash. It seemed like a great lure just like the Sammy but I've had more skis hit a Sammy 100 than the seducer.

Hey guys,
I know this thread is a couple years old and I appologize for bringing this one back to the top. But, I have a couple questions that I'm hoping you guys can help out with.

I'm fishing for striped bass from shore, and have found many of the musky WTD lures seem to get much more attention from large (30lb +) striped bass than many other plugs. I've been fishing the DOC and little DOC for a couple years and love it, but want to expand the selection for this type of bait. I've looked up all the lures you guys have listed above and what I really want from the plug is: around 9", 3-4.0 ozs, all white (which I can recoat if needed), and big rattles (like the DOC or louder). The think I like about the DOC is the awsome wide sie to side, the thing I can't stand is when I hood up to large fish, the splitring seems to open regaurdless of what I put on. I've had #6 wolverines open due to weird leverage the fish gets on the front hook. For hooks, I use 4/0 6x VMC saltwater hooks on all large lures. I've learned to live with the blow ups, but suggestions on reducing them would also be helpful.

a good alternative to the DOC looks like it may be a 8" viper? right??

Thanks for the help guys!

I tried a weagle yesterday for the first time. It had next to no action. I am assuming I have a bad bait since I have heard so many good things about them. Is there anything I can do to make it run better.
