Posts: 1416 Location: oconomowoc, wi | gmanny1 - 6/9/2013 11:41 AM Is the current rising fuel prices by Wall Street and Big Oil affecting anybodys plans? A couple of years ago this happened and alot of Resorts businesses was hurt and some closed in the northwoods and canada( on a couple of my mid summer trips to V and LOTW it seemed like a ghost town)! I'm not starving but it's an absolute joke i've got to spend 500-600.00 dollars just to get to LOTW from the chicago area towing my boat. Thoughts!!! Duluth-3.85 Eagle River-4.11 Chicago- 4.29 Kenora-5.90 Imp gal NO! Winnipeg- 6.24 Imp gal

Location: Sun Prairie, Wisconsin | Gee, it makes a guy think that a smaller boat pulled by a smaller vehicle might be a better way to go. It's great to fish out of a 20 foot Ranger... but man is it getting expensive (not to mention the $$$ of the boat). A nice big boat is great...but if you can only afford to look at it in your driveway...

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | My wife and I are doing many things to make our gas go further. We troll less and cast more. We are doing trade a trips with other Muskies inc members in Michigan so we can use our little car which gets 35 to 40 mpg. We also use this car to pull our smaller boat(1448 SEA ARK) and fish muskies from that A LOT. Our 2004 Chevy Aveo gets 28 to 30 mpg pulling our 1448 at 50 to 60 mph . Our 18 footer sits a lot more as towing it costs more then running it so we use it locally. Lots of things we all can do to minimize the gas we burn fishing. I can still cast and troll all day with the little boat on under 3 gallons of gas(9.9 hp merc 2 stroke.) Still even using the Aveo and the small boat we spend around 30 bucks on gas every trip we make to our closest Muskie lakes. Mike Edited by Kingfisher 6/12/2013 12:56 PM

Safe and Happy travels Sir, and there is always room on the internet for Lingcodfirst.com Thanks, I'll be back on Kodiak by the weekend. Glad to hear you're trying to the fly thing. It's a labor of love, but can really pay off if you give it a shot. Have fun! Not sure how many members lingcodfirst would have...lol But they are a blast to catch. They're like big saltwater muskies that actually LIKE to get caught!

Posts: 6 Location: South Beloit, IL | I decided to take a year off from fishing and do something else I've always wanted to do, which is learn to fly... Now with 100LL at $6.20/gal & burning 8-9 gal/hr the regular gas prices don't seem that bad.

Posts: 1080 | Fact: The economy will NEVER recover with these extremely high oil/fuel prices. Expensive gas doesn't hurt everyone just when filling up at the pump. High oil and fuel prices affect EVERYTHING in your daily life...from the cost of the food you put on your table, to the clothes on your back to how warm/cool you keep that roof over your head. The amount of money it costs to feed a family of four for a week of groceries is just insane....which is all related back to the high oil/fuel prices.

Location: Not far enough north! | My business runs on fuel unfortunately. Burning hundreds of gallons a day. Off road diesel is right about $4.00 now too. My fuel bills have more than doubled in the last ten years. Not to mention most fertilizers are a petroleum product too, now those prices are nuts. I don't know how anyone is ever supposed to get ahead...

Posts: 1000 | Supply and demand. I think that people forget the only countries with lower gas prices than us are the other OPEC nations. There are a million other things our money goes towards other than gas so pinch in one area to adjust for it. My personal favorite? Catch walleye and learn how to take the Y bones out of northerns. That'll save you a ton on food for those trips right there!
