Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i currently have a fleet of b's from 150's, 250's and 400's and love them and had planned to buy a te or ljv prior to my Canada trip in September based on reviews from friends who use them. will the D have the power-handle on it or is that going to be an option and an additional part/expense?? if-so that number creeps up a bit higher?? any reason to "not" buy a te earlier if they are in-stock at stores??

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If you haven't had the reel in your hand, you have no idea what the build feels like. 'Someone said' this or that means exactly....zip. I had the reel in my palm today, and it sure seems like the right stuff to me. They will be in the stores in a few weeks. Anyone other than Larry actually used a 400 D series as a prototype? I'll ask tomorrow who was sent the protos.

I hate to see the TE go. It's odd that everyone seems to be cleaning house on all of their musky reels. Didn't expect the TE to be discontinued anytime soon. Definitely the nicest reel I've ever used. As far as the Calcutta D, I just hope it's smooth and powerful. If Larry says it can handle 13s the power isn't in question.

The New 300D and the 400D will have a 102mm handle from the factory, the 300 - 400TE had a 90mm handle.

Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | True, but most people who wanted more power were swapping out the stock te handle. Thanks for all the answers, look forward to you getting your hands on one. Any word yet on a 700 size?

tahnks for the ICAST coverage I'm curious about people who would use a $360+ reel for suckers or trolling...or I'm curious what else you use a clicker for?

Man these do look pretty awesome... Love how much narrower they are. Some pretty cool video on youtube featuring the reel. Here is a link to a good one you can compare to LJV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iXi5NTsNVE&feature=relmfu

tahnks for the ICAST coverage I want to be able to 'gotcha' my partner that the sucker rod went off by engaging my clicker? Never gets old.

I had the reel in my palm today, and it sure seems like the right stuff to me. I agree. I don't have even a fraction of the experience or reputability of most guys on this site, but Larry D let me play with one at the muskie expo (he decided my payment for seeing it that early on is I have to wrap rods in his basement for two weeks without any lights on haha), and it felt like it lives up to the hype for sure. Felt awesome in the hand, and felt super solid and smooth when I turned the crank and peeled line off the drag. Something to look forward to, at the very least.

Posts: 84 Location: Buffalo Grove, IL | catchandrelease - 7/14/2012 2:21 PM What's going on the Calcutta Bs? They aren't discontinuing them, are they? I have heard from a Shimano representative that the Calcutta B's will still be made. The TE's are being discontinued. From what he said the D isn't replacing the TE, but it sure seems like it. In any case, if you like the B's then you should still be able to get those in the future.
