Posts: 833 | toothycritter88 - 5/21/2012 1:13 PM I was fishing a shoreline and was maybe 30 yards off the end of the dock and had some jerks waterski in between me and the docks. After their second time around going in between me and the dock I could see that they were doing it intentionally. So I clipped on a big lure and flung it and bounced it off the side of their boat as they went around the 3rd time. They didnt do it again after that. I just don't see why people have to be that ignorant. Ya know. If your gonna water ski do it on the outside of people fishing or get off the water. I have always appreicated the attitude adjusting power that the Pounder can have when cast within a certain proximity of personal watercraft users.

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | Remember Sound travels and there might actually be young ears out on the water. With that and taking your kids out. Remember they are new to this and doing something you enjoy and want to spend time with you. Find some patiance and enjoy the time with them, teach them, and relax. I have been on both sides of each of these and it is more enjoyable when not hearing the extra language or chewing out/ arguing your kids. Yes if you are anchored or fishing a shoreline. Do not cut inbetween a boat and shore. I just about came unglued with a pontoon and a guide in another boat yesterday fishing this way. My son just looked at me and said that wasn't very nice of them was it dad.

Location: Ontario, Canada | Follow the speed limits where posted. Don't create wakes in "no wake" areas . Slow down when to close to small craft such as canoeist, paddle boats etc., Don't throw trash-beer bottles/cans etc., in the water. Don't leave trash at the ramp/road side when there is no proper place for disposal. Don't drink in the boat at all, and if you do, don't drink enough to get foolish to the point of no longer being responsible, and don't start chirping and or mooning the cottage girls on shore. All of these things really get the lakes cottage associations angry at fishermen. Edited by Allen 5/21/2012 4:30 PM

Posts: 20263 Location: oswego, il | If you have a kid in the boat display proper etiquette. Had a guy coming at me casting perpendicular to the weedline while i was 90 degrees to him drifting parallel to it. I was casting out to basically where his boat was while my boat partner straight along the weedline. When he came near i straightened out my casts so they were not out by him. That was not good enough as he plopped one 5ft from my trolling motor. He had a 3 year old in the boat with him. Got the ultimate pshyc out a couple years ago. An older lady driving a pontoon going to go right in front of me. I yell go around! And she replies that is my dock right there! And she just kept going right on past as she had planned. I had to laugh at that one.

Posts: 8842 | If you see someone anchored, late in the fall, clearly fishing with live bait, on a 1,200 acre lake that is all but abandoned, do NOT come up and drop your anchor and put your suckers out at such a close proximity where we can see what rods and reels you use and what brand of cigarettes you are smoking...

| Dumbf***ers at the launch are what gets under my skin the most. Earlier this year a storm blew up out of nowhere and there were about 25 boats trying to pull out on 3 ramps when one guy decides to leave is child to hold the rope on his boat blocking a ramp for a good 10 minutes. Then he has the nerve to tell my buddy backing the truck down that he has to cut in front of us so he can get his boat out. I understand that everyone has to learn at some point but not on a saturday at the busyiest launch on the lake. | |||

Posts: 1150 Location: Minnesota. | Language! I've schooled my kids about how sound travels out on the water and they've witnessed it. Being from the trades I'm no Prim-Donna but when we're fishing or better yet, up north on vac. there's simply no call for it! I might slip when we get one up close or get surprised but no one outside of the boat can hear me, it's that subtle. And even then I don't prefer it.

| I volunteer to check boats at the launch on the lake where we have a cottage and musky fishermen are either the best or the worst. Most are great. They are concerned about the lakes and even thank the volunteers. Display a sense of humor and are smart enough to ask what has been happening with the musky bite. The others are so serious you would think they were going out to perform brain surgery. One of these was a guide, with his name on the truck cap and a nice Ranger boat. I asked him a couple of quick questions such as the last lake fished and whether he was aware of guidelines for checking your trailer and boat for invasives. He was gruff to the point of rudeness and then went to back his boat in. Made an absolute mess of it. Got the trailer at right angles to the truck, parallell to shore. Had to have his buddy pull the truck ahead and then back it in. Must have taken 10 minutes all together. I was tempted to take my camera out and take a few shots of this putz and his Ranger almost parked back on shore but didn't. And again, this was a guide with a Ranger and his name on his truck. | |||

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Sweet topic! I & my brother-in law -> Bill Dorn fished the Petenwell Muskie Challenge this weekend. Let me first say this - Todd & the Muskie Club's put on a well run tournament. This was Bill's first PMC event. I really enjoyed seeing some of the past contestant's and talking with them, as well as seeing them on the water. Other's, we could have done without, especially being lied to at the registration by a contestant was a new low (Are these seats free? No!). Then being on the water and trolling while watching the same team casting to shore for ~ 1/4 mile as we approach, the same individual turns and throws a bomb to the middle of the river (My water!). Up to that point all of his cast's were to the shore. You know who you are, you're an nice try. I went outside his comfort zone of his cast, he's still an nice try. I have never cut in front of anyone or even thought of trying to push into anyone's space. I really missed Saint1 & Norm W at this event, they have the right perspective, "its just fishing"! Some people could take a lesson or two from Norm & Saint1. I tried to win Norm's 1/2 day guide trip, but it wasn't to be. But we did win the holographic Muskie print signed by Pete Mania from the Operation Muskie folks- Yes I also dropped a bit of $ there ( 15 years - Army 1966-1981). It's a good cause, thanks to all who are supporting the event.... Am I bummed? Yes, I lost a high 40's fish about 10:15AM Sunday ~ 20 ft from the boat - my fault. But, it was also a hell of an adrenaline rush! There's always next year. Have fun! It's just a fish, treat people like you want to be treated. Al

Posts: 121 Location: Plymouth IA | I know how to backup the boat but when i am with my oldest and have to get her out of the wheelchair into the boat then put the wheelchair back in the car, it takes some time. so cut me some slack and do not tell me at the landing it would be quicker if i leave her in the wheelchair it is the same as if tie yourself to an anchor. Even with all the wheelchair shuffle we get the boat ramp thing done quicker than some. So lets be nice out there. if you are impatient at the ramp help out the other fella. Your voice carry's on the water if I am with the kids excessive bad words get a phone call to my friend the deputy. If you get mad and come back to get me the 12 gauge w 00 buck is in the side locker of the boat and will get the job done until the deputy gets back. So as i said be nice out there other folks are watching and if someone needs a tow back to the landing reel up and help out. One weekend i had to tow the same folks twice yes they should have had the sense to not go out again until the motor was fixed. My nephew said something about them interrupting our fishing. I told him helping out others in need is the right thing to do he was 9 then. If you meet him and need help he is the first to help out folks in need. He graduated from collage this winter. So if you see an old Tuffy Rampage on Cass or Leach or Big Winne or Miltona or French or Clear lake say hi

DE - 5/21/2012 7:57 PM one guy decides to leave is child to hold the rope on his boat blocking a ramp for a good 10 minutes. I guess this goes both ways...I take my kids fishing all of the time and take up a ramp for xtra time while i run up to get the truck. Sometimes we can still launch faster than others, sometimes not. Sometimes patience goes a long ways. Could giving 5 minutes up of your time to help the guy out be that bad? I certainly agree with being efficient at the ramps but calling a dad and his kid dumb()@$#ers seems to be on the opposite side of proper etiquette.

Posts: 2385 Location: Chisholm, MN | Parking at small launches is important. There have been a number of times at my cabin where I have had to move trailers or take them off and dump them in the woods just to put my boat in. Then I call the sheriff and let these guys know how I feel. Usually they have no clue they have even done anything wrong even though it takes an hour for me to get around their trucks at the landing.

The only issues have been drunken crazy folk who wanted to push my kid in off the dock in her wheelchair couple of years ago and 7 years ago i lived near the school the police asked to use my house (good view of the back of the school) to bust drug dealers and i agreed, the drug dealers thought they would get even at the lake and were convinced otherwise.
