Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | sorry jason ... just saw your post and thought you were fishing muskies. it might be a long run for you and cost you some gas but up in the narrows there is some fantastic walleye and pike piles! ... very scenic too.

| So how long do you think this is going to last?? How long CAN it last?? I have a Vermilion trip lined up the very last week of July and did not make the license purchase yet.... gosh hopefully I don’t get screwed. Do you really think they will have all the state gov't operations shut down for a month? That just seems crazy and absurd. | |||

Posts: 697 Location: Minnetonka | Joe, them's fightin' words... but true. Anyone know if there will be a decreased number of C.O.s on the water this weekend with the shutdown? I'm thinking of keeping two muskies instead of my usual one 48+. Just kidding. Everyone have a happy and safe 4th. Peace.

Posts: 3160 | actually local police will probably do double duty at landings people think cops cant write game & fish tickets but here in Minn they can,,cops are 'law enforcement' officers and can enforce any law when directed to,,,actually we had a bet on this point a couple years back, actually maybe I'll go Pheasant Hunting this weekend!!!!!!!!!1 Edited by happy hooker 7/1/2011 1:13 PM

Why does everybody in Minnesota rail on the out of staters so much? When it comes time to send emails for your pet projects you like us.....other than that you can't stand us. I'm not singling you out Luke, it's just weird to me that the majority rails on out of staters but when it comes time to call the governor. We are told we need to help the group that rails on us. Not a very effective way to get help from your fellow musky brothers imo.

Posts: 3160 | FYI from a dnr rep Vermilion, Mile Lacs the metro lakes, except White Bear, and assorted other waters are CLOSED to muskie fishing till further notice,,, Muskies in these waters were stocked by the state dnr and are considered state employees and representitives subject to strike,,,, or more in actual fact 'not strike' anglers offerings,, Anglers are urged to head to Shoepack lake to avoid any confusion Edited by happy hooker 7/1/2011 2:36 PM

Posts: 134 | I have traveled to many other states to hunt and fish over the years, and have ALWAYS purchased the required license for the task at hand. When it comes time to make my trips to MN later this year I will once again purchase the annual non resident, and if I cant purcahse a license, I'll be fishing without one. If I get caught oh well guess my license cost just went up a couple C-notes. Bit ridiculous since state employees dont even sell the licenses. Retailers probably sell 95% of them.

Posts: 78 | My resort called me last week with the news. We have a three man group going up labor day week. All three of us were able to get a lience on line before they closed down. Resort owner said he expects the state to be shut down for three or four months! Wardens will be checking for liences--especially out of state fishermen.

| No they can't. They can ticket you but can't take your gear. This new two line things rocks though! | |||

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | BFD, The two line proposal did not pass. That bill did not even get out of committee. Just a bunch of talk with little support. During open water season, it is still one line in MN. Use two and risk a ticket. The DNR was out in force on Leech Lake this past weekend. So, I would be careful what you try because the fines are still high.

Posts: 1270 | So how can they cite you for not having something that you can't buy? I will be up there in August and if they are available I will buy an annual one, if they aren't I'm fishing anyway and if they stop me I will fight it as far as I can under protest.

It's simple...they'll cite you for not having a license. The fact that the state gov't isn't selling them at YOUR convenience is immaterial. You should have bought one when you had the chance. Good luck fighting it if you get cited. You'll need it!!

Posts: 897 | I would imagine you'd get cited for every fish you have in your possession as well if you don't have a license. Those tickets are usually in the range of $75-150 per fish.

The entire country should be about ready to string up our government. Then, ourselves for putting them in charge. It's a sad sad era in American History IMHO.

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | I am guessing that not EVERYONE has heard this yet that is planning on going to MN or that ALL the resorts/ hotels and such are calling each of their scheduled guests to let them know that if they don't have a fishing license already it is not worth the trip. I would be curious as to how many license are bought before and during seasons from either residents or non-residents. I would agree that Tourism has to be ready to string them up. But seriously what is a person suppose to do. I was suppose to leave Monday for Detroit Lakes for a quick work/fishing trip that is now cancelled because 3 out of 4 people in our group didn't get their license ahead of time and now are nervous about it. I was the one who did get mine so I am not worrying about it but now is cancelled. This has to be frustrating for all that are involved and the money being lost has to sound like a Vegas slot machine. But what do you do?
