| Nice fish for sure. Boy, there has been some true giants caught since last fall to this year now. Between McNair's 57x33 (77.5 lbs. by the formula) and world record if kept, and this fish 59x29 (62 lbs. by the formula) and a state record if kept, not to mention several other fish throughout the year too. I am jealous. Someday. | |||

Posts: 8863 | Pointerpride102 - 10/13/2009 8:37 PM Why do some people care so much? Does it really have that big of an impact upon your lives? Only to the people who look at the picture and read the measurements and think "No WAY that fish was that big! I've never caught one that big. It must be BS, because if there was one that big out there, I would have caught it by now because I'm the best muskie fisherman ALIVE!! And since I lie about every fish I catch, whoever caught that one must be lying too!!" To the rest of us, it's kind of like a porn magazine. You look at the pictures and you think "Wow. That's better than any of the ones I've ever seen. Someday I hope to see one like that up close and personal!"

| If you catch a 59x29 your going to be dam well and sure you get great photos, and for those of you who say otherwise your lying..... This day in age its not that hard to measure and photograph a fish on the board or stick regardless of waves, wind or fire... ok maybe fire would be tough. I really hope these guys have a photo on a stick or board just to show the truth. It may be a 59x29 but we need to see the picks. | |||

Posts: 556 | I don't need to see the pics--Sure I guess it would have been nice to get some better pics of it--but it is a VERY BIG FISH and I believe them at their word. But I also look at it like MUSKY PORN so who really cares that much----I say Great Job to the anglers involved !!-- Fish is Huge---Wish it was me !! Fall is here--Time to fish for a trophy for ourselves.

Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | One more time...the anglers who caught this fish are not making any claims here, so posting anything about the persons who caught this fish saying or doing anything is ridiculous. They took the images they took, and as it was pointed out, might not care a whit if we think the images are inconclusive.

| I don't care how big that fish is, I just want to see some better pics so I can see the whole body of a truly awesome fish! | |||

Posts: 90 | Crawdad - 10/14/2009 1:15 AM I really hope these guys have a photo on a stick or board just to show the truth. It may be a 59x29 but we need to see the picks. Why would any angler feel they needed to prove anything to you, or anyone else? You can either believe the story, (which has been previously stated is second hand), or not, but either way who really gives a rats azz. It's not the anglers here or anyone else for that matter is trying to challenge that they caught a new record that will knock your record off the books. These guys simply caught a great fish regardless of the size and took possibly the best picture they could given their desire to safely release the fish and moved on. I personally have never caught anything near that size, but have caught a lot of big fish that were never measured and some never photographed because I wanted to realease them quickly. The guys that are bashing this photo because it doesn't "prove anything" are the same ones that would be bashing the anglers if they kept the fish to get it weighed and measured on a certified scale. I come to this site to see posts of great fish, and whether that fish be 29", 39", or 59", it really doesn't matter, it is a beautiful fish and I'm glad someone took the time to share it with us. Not everyone has to agree with every post made, but at the end of the day we are here to enjoy musky fishing and not enough people are willing to share their experiences lately because of all the negativity. Go out and catch a fish and enjoy it for yourself not the benefit of whether someone else will believe it or not. Edited by JeffPaasch 10/14/2009 11:22 AM

| I have been fishing muskies for over 15 years and I have been fortunate enough to handle many fish over 50+ and a few very special fish have made it into our boat over the years. With all that said, if I caught a really special fish like the one in question there is no way I would tell anyone other than my friends and I certainly wouldn't attempt to defend myself on any muskie message board because for some odd reason muskie people are just rude. I have no idea why but there are always people there to kick the chair out from under some poor slob that catches a nice fish. Why is that? I don't even have a camera in my boat anymore because after a while all the fish start to look the same. For me a bunch of photos aren't necessary, the memory and thrill is enough. So if I was the person that caught that fish and word leaked out to the virtual muskie community, what would happen? I'd hate to think what you guys would be saying. Let's face it, muskie guys are evil and we judge people without the facts. That's really crappy IMHO. I'm surprised someone hasn't said something about the boat they are in. Not everyone can afford nor wants a big sparkly Ranger, the biggest net, the best bump board or 10ft rods. Some people just go out to have fun and I bet they did with that fish. So why are we trying to take this away from them? | |||

Posts: 444 Location: Duluth, MN | Steve....tougher moderation? Nobody is saying anything that bad....geez. Can't people say they wish there was a better picture? Nobody is personally attacking them. It's a great fish and everybody has pretty much said congrats for catching it. This place is way too sensitive. And yes i went to Metallica last night and it was AWESOME...but i better not say that to or i'll get deleted again.

Many of us would think that after making the trip to target big musky that catching a fish of that size that you would at least take the time to get a good photo and measurement...most would think. I know that I sure would. The reality is that some are not out to catch and get their fish "validated" by the musky community or muskiefirst board members, etc.. They are not "competing" with the rest of the musky community and may be simply be enjoying the entire experience of catching the fish which may be enough for them to remember for the rest of their lives. Some of the responses are a bit arrogant or pompous. Now if we are talking validating a potential record fish then that's an entirely different story.

| this is no doubt a monster. However it is confusing to me why the pic is so bad. All he had to do was lift the back end a little more to show more of the fish. Hopefully there are better pics but state record or no record this is a very big fish in very tough conditions. Congrats | |||

| And of course the most important part of the story is that they released it. State record or not these guys have my MAD RESPECT for putting a fish like that back in the water. Lots of fishing left to do maybe somebody will catch her again and she'll be even heavier. Maybe it will be you | |||

| First off, I don't see much bashing going on here. So before we go on 5 paragraph rants about internet ethics, why don't we actually read the posts first? Most people express a desire to see a better picture of what is probably the biggest fish caught so far in this part of country in 2009. I don't see any issues in that. As far as the bad photos go, it looks like the guy in the picture is a little up there in age. having no idea who he was with, I can say from experience that sometimes in the boat older gentleman and digital cameras can be a very bad mix, especially when wind and waves and huge fish are thrown in the mix. Give them a break, they mighta been been trying | |||

Posts: 75 Location: Aurora, IL. | That truly is a huge fish. After spending a week there prior to the MAC pre-fishing I can tell you and most all others that were there can probably say the same thing that I saw at least a dozen fish I considered to be closing in on 60". The fact that this fish came from vermilion does not suprise me in the least. The fact these guys got one to eat is awesom. Speaking of photographs, I can only imagine the pandemonium in that boat. For me its all about releasing that fish, period. I'm sure those guys were thinking the same thing. As for posting a picture on a web site or message board, I could care less. Would I like to see it yes! Do I think any less of them? No. The critiqueing that goes on is crazy Gun

Posts: 432 Location: mpls | In regards to the photo being soo bad- If any of you were out that day on Vermilion- you would know how bad the wind/waves were. Most people stayed in. I can only guess that taking a pic in huge waves, shaking from the rush and in a hurry to get the fish back in the water- it would be hard for you to. Joe Trueglide.com BTW- You wish the pic was better? How about the guy that caught it? I bet he wishes it more than you
