Posts: 380 Location: Michigan | iowalunger - 1/13/2009 10:39 PM Congrats to Chadster and Rob S. for having some of the finest looking paint jobs i've seen! Thanks I am pretty darn anal, so when I worked with Joe, I wanted to ensure this representaed the fish as closely as possible. If you put a tape on the fish it measures 53.5 x 22, which is exactly what this fish measured in the cradle. It was a summer fish that did not have a fat belly, but it was square like a railroad tie (broad back) and solid (muscular). Joe got it dead on. Joe is a true artist. When I look at the replica, it doesn't look like a replica, it looks like the fish... He is doing a 54.5 x 23 for me for me currently. When that one hangs next to the 53, I know it will look just a s good and proportionate to the 53. I cant stand looking at grossly inflated replicas. I feel the mounts i have represent the fish as precisely as possibly without killing the fish. It's worth the wait! When I get a 45 or 50 pounder, Joe will do it. Location: Madison, WI | I just picked up my 52 x 27 repo from the Chicago Musky Show. Rick Lax did an awesome job! The attention to detail is simply amazing! It is a two sided mount with a wood base that is filled with rocks. I am very impressed. I would highly recommend Lax for your next reproduction. http://www.laxreproduction.com/ Adam Attachments ---------------- Lax Repo and Aspen_30.jpg (255KB - 1071 downloads) Lax repo left side_30.jpg (259KB - 744 downloads) Lax repo right side_30.jpg (260KB - 562 downloads) Lax repo top_30.jpg (259KB - 660 downloads) Lax repo mouth_30.jpg (266KB - 515 downloads)

Posts: 1083 | GETTHENET, Very, very nice. Thanks for sharing those detailed and various pix. Often times in pix of mounts/replicas, it's very hard to get an idea for size due to not having anything within the photo for comparison, which, you've done for us nicely by putting your daughter in there, and then in addition to that, it's often tough to tell size of a mount/replica due to the different shapes, twists or positions the fish's body has been molded into, but you're various shots show it off perfectly. Very, very nice.

Posts: 303 Location: WI | When you post your picture(s), would you put your 'original' picture of the fish along with the replica? It would be nice to see how close the replicas are to the actual fish. Thanks. Edit: All the the above fish look great! I'm jealous of everyone of them. Edited by PEteacher44 1/14/2009 8:30 AM

Posts: 311 | Here is a mount that Rick just finished before the Chicago Show and will be at other shows this year. He also figured out how to make a splash of water which many of you who were at the Chicago Show saw what he did with McNair's fish. This mount is baby ducks swimming on water with a musky looking up at them for a quick meal. This one is my favorite!!!!!!! Posts: 1083 | GETTHENET, If you don't mind saying, or mind me asking, how much more $$$$ did it cost to have your repro done in that 2-sided fashion vs. just a single sided, hanging wall mount on driftwood? Smokin Joe posts a cool example as well...more of a "theme or concept" reproduction. That's cool too. Even more costly...but...very cool...

Posts: 2017 | If you don't mind saying, or mind me asking, how much more $$$$ did it cost to have your repro done in that 2-sided fashion vs. just a single sided, hanging wall mount on driftwood? According to the LAX website its $19 per inch double sided mounts...only a grand for a fish of a lifetime

Location: Madison, WI | Mack, I believe Lax charges around $12.50 per inch for a one sided mount and $19 per inch for a two sided. Well worth the extra since you will have it forever.

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | I think the walleyes look better then muskies. Something about the little dimple affect on some of the muskies I don't like. It just does not look like real scales to me. They are beautifully done but that one thing puts me off a little. Pfeiff

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | pic's don't show the true color well(lost the blue/purples when flash went off), due to low light. Joe Fittante's work. It's actually a replica of a 2 fish, or one caught twice. My friend caught it on a tip-up in early spring of 2001. I got her on my first ice trip of winter 02/03 with dad, a half mile from where my buddy got it. Joe had trouble skinning a smelt like it ate so he painted a sucker to look like one, and did very well. I bumped the tail of the sucker and broke a piece, hence the home repair on it. Attached is a pic of the second capture, to show how Joe painted certain markings that I noticed upon both captures(the little whale shaped marking above and just in front of fin is one example). Going fishing now, no time to get pic and post it. Same as 53 but way bigger. Location: SE Wisconsin | Fittante's work is simply amazing. As close as I look at his work in person, I can't believe just how realistic it is down to every little detail! He's working on a rep for me as we speak - can't wait to see it!

I would just like to say that Fittante's stuff really impressed me at the Chicago show.Well worth a grand to have a beautiful fish mount and still have it swimming out there somewhere.

Posts: 556 | Fantastic replicas !! Looks like there are 2 guys out there doing absolutely quality work--I looked at them over the winter at the shows--I can't wait to get to get that special fish so I can also have 1 of those fine replicas hanging on my wall. Haven't gotten her yet but got a special trip planned for late this fall and I am hoping that is the ticket---maybe even sooner--you just never know 1!

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Some good looking replicas on here and there are some that I wouldn't have walked out of the shop with because they are pretty bad. I wont name any because I'm sure the owners are happy with them. I've got a 51 done by Lax and am happy with it.
