2) Getting into my 1st tournament.
3) Having my daughter catch her 1st muskie.
4) Opening day with all the boy's, you got to love "The Cutting edge" on 1250 Sat. morning on Pewaukee Lake.

Twice this summer I hit a "window" of muskie frenzy that I wont forget. First on Mille lacs getting 4 fish in the boat, lost another in about 2 hours (50,47,47,42) and then again on Tonka in about 1.5 hrs getting 4 again all within a 50 yard stretch of weedline (51.5, 48,47,42). Great times, if I ever beat that next year I hope someone is in the boat with me again to beleive it.

Definitely, seeing my Niece catch her first muskie- off the dock at Potato Lake- right before a torrential downpour- it was the only muskie caught during the week of our camping trip for July 4th-not a monster - but she was a celebrity when we went back to the tavern to stay dry!

For me it was spending any time on the boat with my kids !! No muskies for the little guy but caught lots of other species to keep his interest !! Other than that it would have to be getting my brother and a buddy their first on the same trip , both fish came within about an hour of eachother and losing 1 other fish , they both call it the hi-light of their summer so that makes it 1 of mine too !! I looked like I knew what I was doing until it took me 2 hours to find the launch in the dark !!! Plenty of other great memories , P.I. outing was definitely a blast , fishing with Slamr the many times we got out ( always a blast ) , and fishing with Muskie Mike is always a blast ... we make it fun for ourselves every time !!

Long time lurker... this thread finally got me to register. I'm sorry in advance but this is going to be long...

This year was a great year even though we only put one musky in the boat. After two years of fishing muskies and watching my wife catch two before I caught one I finally got my first fish and boy was it worth the wait! After working on Saturday of labor day weekend I decided to try the night bite for the first time since I could be worthless on Monday. So we headed up to the pond on Sunday afternoon and started fishing at 5:00 p.m. On the first cast I had a mid-30's follow. The dang fish scared the crap out of me as I was not expecting it. Forty-five minutes later we had drifted over another weed bed and I had a high-40's fish chasing the figure-8. I really thought that it would be my first muskie. But the fish after chasing several turns never opened its mouth and swam away.

After about two hours of no action all of a sudden my line just stopped. I set the hook and felt the "fish" move and boy was it a lunker! However, we quickly realized that something funny was going on and either this fish was huge or it wasn't a fish. After a bit of fighting we got on top of the line and I grabbed a pair of gloves and started pulling on the line. The "fish" ended up being a 25lb anchor full of walleye rigs. But atleast I saved my lure and got a free anchor! At midnight all of the other boats in the area gave up and left the lake. We kept on fishing.

About 45 minutes later we moved to a small patch of weeds. I had a strike and set the hook as hard as I could. It was pretty dark and we couldn't see the fish but I knew it was a musky and I knew it was big. My Dad grabbed the net captured the beast. I still to this day have no idea how he netted that fish given the darkness of the night and the small light on the boat. All I remember him yelling before he netted the fish was "I see the leader!" With the fish in the net, we grabbed our hook removal gear and got the lure free. Our boat is pretty small so we decided it would be safer to put the fish in the boat rather than trying to grab it out of the net in the water. I went to grab the net and it weighed a "ton". So I had my Dad grab the other side to help me get the fish into the boat safely. This was the first time we got a good luck at the fish.

We got the fish out of the net and it just kept getting longer! We quick put down the tape and my Dad says 51.5 inches and I looked at him in disbelief and said "measure it again". Another quick measurement and the fish was 51.5 inches again (my Dad swears it was more like 51.75). I quickly picked up the fish and my Dad took a couple of pictures and measured the girth (24.5/25). The fish was put in the water and it swam away. We enjoyed the moment for the next hour as I was finally no longer "the guy who fishes for muskies all of the time but never caught one", but more importantly, I was suddenly a member of the 50 inch club and the catch and release club.

The best part of the night was that my Dad was there with me. He has still not put his first musky in the boat even though he had several chances in September and October including a fish that jumped out of the water and spit the hook and a mid-high 40's fish missed his lure boat side and swam away embarrased. (I still don't know how we didn't catch that fish) 2008 will be his year.

2007 will always be the year of my first musky, but perhaps more memorable because it was a year that was spent fishing with my wife, my parents and friends. It's not necessarily how many fish you put in the boat that makes a year great, but fact that that you had a great time chasing them.

probably 2 stand out...many more come to mind though..

Watching a young guy get his first 50"er in the net and his reaction...
Watching a 52.5" half in, half out of the Beckman for what seemed like an eternity...The MN buds were right when they told me "you're gonna need a bigger net"

PB, 47" on the 8. I guess there were a few memorable moments on that fish. Watching it eat, by far the coolest. Watching it thrash around with its head out of the water and thinking "f$^%& I'm gonna lose her!" was the scariest. One I'll never forget though is afterwards, having to sit down because I was shakin' so bad. I felt kinda stupid until Herbie said "holy $^%& lookit, my knees are are shakin, man!"

A moment worth mentioning for sure:

Seeing Sorno's face at the PI outing when they walked in with his replica. I had the fortune of being at the table next to him when it happened, and He went from "What is going on" to "Hey that looks like the fish I caught", to "oh my God you guys didn't, is that for ME?" to sheer disbelief all in about 3 seconds!!

While waiting for my bro to get to the lake near the launch, castin the DC in 3-4 feet of water, inside edge, I see the beast charge, brace myself, set the bone crushing hook set, BAM, the rod snaps in half, panic and confusion ensues , the beast is still hooked and I net her solo. She is my PB at fifty one, one week to the day after my first fifty. My brother shows up five minutes later, I'm still shaking like a leaf, I show him the pics and the busted rod and he asks how the heck I got her in? I then realize I don't even remember a thing of the fight, I was so freaked to have the beast hooked up on half a rod, I can't remember a thing, yet somehow I'll never forget it!

Going toe to toe with a 51"er on a boatside 8 that had an attitude that wouldn't quit...while solo in the boat.

Joe...nice job on the repro by the way.

The most memorable moment for me this year, was 1 night my two kids, Ella 5 and Hadyn 4, went out for a evening of musky fishing with me. The third cast my daughter made, a mid forty fish comes up and creams her Top Raider about ten feet from the boat and thrashes violently for about 20 second without much resistance. After losing the fish, the look on her face was priceless. I will forever remember that moment.

Second, On a trip to Mille Lacs with my brother and brother in law. In one hour of fishing, we caught 3 fifties. Bro's 50 1/2", Bro in law 53", mine 54 1/2"
After that I lost one about 52. I should of just quit musky fishing that night, because the odds of ever doing that again are slim to none. But I will try next year

Happy Holiday's

You would think that it was catching my first 50, but it wasn't. It was when I took my buddy Pete muskyfishing for the first time. He had a 45 plus blow up on a hawg wobbler and come completely out of the water. The look on his face was priceless. None the less he is now hooked. The other was when my buddy Aaron called me telling me that he had caught his first 50. He had been waiting a long time for that fish.

1. I guided my friend Andrew to his first Musky, a 46 incher that creamed a bucktail in a figure 8.

2. Fishing a Musky tournament with my Dad and winning for the second year in a row.

3. Watching a Fish close to 50 inches explode on a Jackpot twice but missing it each time. It sure gets your heart pumping.

That's an easy one. Fishing with my 80 yr. old father who has complained
for years that he is bad luck once it comes to muskie fishing. He had previously
only caught one 32 inch muskie in his life. He always said he has thrown 100,000 thousand casts with no fish. Well it finally happened this fall on a cold rainy day where this 48" decided to take Dad's sucker and make him the happiest person in Wisconsin that day (as you can tell on the picture). He has shown the picture to everybody he knows at every chance he gets. For Christmas I am going to get a picture blown up and framed for him since we were able to release the fish with no problem.

This one was the best!  Fish was caught on a quick strike rig and was real scrappy on a short leash.  Not a huge fish but any time you can put one in the net while you are fishign with your kids is priceless.

I've been lurking for awhile too - but this monent really stood out so I had to tell it.

I was fishing along a wild rice bed with a buzzbait and I had a couple of nice wakes come to the bait, follow for awhile, but then veer off close to the boat. So I put on a old floating husky rap so I could twitch it out away from the boat. A few casts later I get another wake to the lure. But no hit. I twitch it a few times but don't see any more movement. Then I briefly see a faint flash of white/yellow. At first I think the fish has a big gash on it's back. But then I see it again and am able to make out what's happening. The fish is immediately below the rap - opening it's mouth trying to suck the lure down - like a trout gently sipping a dry fly. But he isn't generating enough suction to get the lure. He opens his mouth a few more times, finally with enough force to take the lure off the surface. Nothing huge - 35" - but I'm not sure I could handle that from a really big fish.

Putting my friend on his first-ever Ski. Both of these were on the same day.

First was like 32" and the second was around 28-29", but it was a HUGE deal for him. This was also my first outing of '07 as well, so it made my day. This catch coming from a complete NOOB gave me some confidence that I kinda knew what I was doing out there.. hahaha. As for me, I had a rough day but still fun.

June '07 on a Vilas lake.

i figured its time to register-

lots and lots of great memories, getting to fish with some great muskie sticks and getting to listen/observe them was the highlight of my summer, you guys know who you are! a few memories that stick out-
-netting a very well deserved 53 incher for a great friend
-fishing with a certain wisconsonite - trying to sqeeze out an extra 1/4 inch on a girthy girl

Wow, lots of great highlights! One of the cooler posts in a while.

My highlight is when I took my musky partner Jimmy Grasz out on the Big Chip and got him a fat 32incher, which was his first musky ever!!! Congrats Jimmy, I think you will end up being a pretty good musky fisherman... Keep it up kid.

Like most others I can only narrow it down to a couple, 1st was have the 55x 27 that hammernicks client caught follow and strike at and miss my cremecicle pounder at sunset about a week before he caught it. And defintelty catching my first 50" and having it be in my home state of WI, Having a 9 fish day all legals too 7 of them on the 8. Ok thats good enough but could go on and on. Great year!

Stopping to do a weed check while fall trolling and having a 50 incher almost take the rod out of my hands after turning one crank on the reel handle. Beating my PB by 10 inches (the above fish). Fishing with family and my old neighbor who used to take me fishing, it felt great to return the favor.

I had more than one, but didn't we all. Some great stories here! Not enough to help make it through the long WI winter though.
Here's a few of mine.
1. My son getting his first fish, on opening weekend. 32.5 inches.
2. My first bucktail fish. (I don't throw them often)
3. Catching 3x the fish I caught last year.
4. My first fig 8 fish.
5. 2 times, on seperate weekends, I caught 2 fish back-to-back.
6. Putting 4 fish in the boat in 2 hours, and loosing 2 others.

Now someone has to make a post with the worst memories from this last year. Oh how many of these fish we loose.
