Posts: 2373 Location: Chisholm, MN | Masqui-ninja - 1/18/2021 5:57 AM Our local favorite is Benson's Emporium, a Leech Lake staple. The different combos are named after the reefs, points and islands out here. The next time I drive through Illinois, I'm stopping for pizza! I was just going to say Benson’s! The deep dish is the real deal. I believe they don’t serve it every day though.

If you ever are in the Phoenix area, try Organ stop Pizza.. Not the best pizza in the world, but a neat venue with a huge pipe organ, the player takes requests, lots of little extra instruments all around the room... Phoenix has new york style pizza. Not my favorite. Had one pizza in Sierra Vista cheese pepperoni onions on half and got a cheese pepperoni onions and ham. I will start the argument. I used to make pizzas as a teenager for Suzie's Pizza in Plano, IL which is now in Yorkville. Good pizza but if your going to out onions on a pizza save yourself the cost and hassle and just eat the onion. I'll see your onion, and raise you a pineapple... what say you to THAT on a pizza? In a word? Deportation. Same as those who put ketchup on a hot dog. Can't argue with that...lol

Well Todd, afraid that the Italians would disagree with you on the onion. It is a staple on Neopolitan style pizza, right there with olive oil. We had an elderly gentleman who hunted from our deer camp for a couple seasons, emigrated from Italy in the 1930s and he used onion on his version that he baked in our wood stove. Some fine eating. I suppose you don't like garlic either.

Posts: 196 | I'm fortunate and my wife is Sicilian and makes homemade pizza from her families recipe. Her parents, who passed a couple of years ago, owned a restaurant in tosa until selling it in the early 90's. Pre-COVID, Christmas gatherings were always a big to do about the pies, followed by cannoli.

I suppose you don't like garlic either. I used to make pizzas flipped the dough up in the air and all that stuff. Veggies have.a ton of moisture and keeps the cheese from browning with the crust. Raw onion is overbearing and unless it's cooked in really well dominates the taste. Put raw onion on anything you might as just well eat the onion. I like garlic. If you ever go to a portillo's with an expanded barney's menu, there are only a few, aurora, bloomingdale and one buy midway on harlem, get the chicken cicilano. It's by far my favorite italian dish and loaded with garlic so much so you will get the garlic sweats 30 minutes later, you will stink everyone will smell your stink, your bed will stink. It's worth it and by all means get a piece of the best chocolate cake you will ever eat. It will ruin chocolate cake for you it did for me. Edited by ToddM 1/18/2021 6:02 PM

If anyone is fishing the Moen Chain, the Birchwood Lodge is a long time northwoods bar and grill with very good pizza, make their crust from scratch, fresh toppings. One that my son and I get is the Greek Pizza, with gyros meat, etc. They have a dock you can leave your boat at and during the summer picnic tables with umbrellas for a nice day overlooking the lake. Take a break from fishing on a Sunday afternoon in the summer and live music on the outdoor stage.

Posts: 164 Location: West Central WI | The two ingredients that make an outstanding pizza are a great sauce and the right dough recipe. I suppose an argument could be made for cheese and the right oven. After those, it's personal preference for what ingredients you prefer.

hawkeye9 - 1/28/2021 1:08 PM So wait Todd, onion is no good because its overpowering, but garlic is not? In language you will understand...c'mon, man!? My thought as well, but maybe if your work making pies all day, the smell stays with you? Kind of like when my son was swimming in college. Over winter break they swam 4 hours a day and he said everything smelled like chlorine. He knew toast and eggs didn't really smell like chlorine, but that is what he smelled.

Posts: 633 Location: Bloomington, MN | My answer involves a multitude of factors for the Hayward Pizza award, but I must say the most tastiest Wisconsin pizza was served to me was at the Little Red Bar at Dettloff's Indian Trail Resort. Put your Louis Spray views away, and step back in time. The Muskie surroundings were fantastic as was the Pep's frozen pizza prepared in a Wisco 421 pizza oven. This is the only Hayward location I ever ate pizza. I was a FIB from the southside and grew up eating some of the best pizza. Pep's is my new frozen and after my Hayward trip I bought the Wisco 421 (best Pizza oven...ever)! My favorite Chicago deep dish is Lou Mahlnatti's, but I also love Giordano's. Here is where I get goofier....thin crust hands down is Fox's Sausage Pizza (Oak Lawn is/was better than Orland Park) and it has been 40+ years since eating at the Western ave,. location. I'm glad I'm out of that sewer of a city, but am now in the Minneapolis area sewer!!! I've traveled a fair amount, and the NY style pizza is still and will always be hideous to me (numerous attempts), and I can't recall a pizza I somewhat liked west of the Mississippi. Give Pep's thin crust double down sausage a shot on your next adventure to God's Country! https://pepsdrafthaus.com/ Edited by Clark A 1/28/2021 8:54 PM

It’s been a few years, but Ray Jays on County B was respectable but another planet away from what I used to get years ago in Chicago. We usually make our own these days.

Posts: 673 Location: Twin Cities, MN | DeMarinis in South Shore used to be my go-to place in Milwaukee for a number of years until the family split into two joints. Now when I visit it is Crossroads in Muskego. Here in the twin cities, the original Savoy's in downtown St Paul made an awesome pie. They are gone and nothing has really replaced them yet in my mind. Cossetta's is good though. Pal
