Went out to fill the bird feeder this morning and the new snow went over the top of my boots. Didn't look that deep. Trees have a heavy coating of snow. Does not look like Easter weekend. More like Christmas.

Posts: 431 | Ice was out way early here in SE Michigan. The walleye run just really kicked into high gear last week. Huron is dumping the last of its ice down the st Clair river this weekend and then you will be able to pick where you want to catch your easy limit. It gets tough here in the spring choosing between limits of perch and panfish on st Clair, limits of walleye with a few silver fish mixed in on the st Clair river, limits of walleye on the Detroit river, or monster lake Erie walleyes. Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Another storm headed our way Tuesday. maybe as nasty as the last, meaning we have 14" or more to get rid of to even begin getting to the ice.

Posts: 1294 | Quick 2 inch burst of snow this afternoon, and the news just said up to 8 inches overnight and through tomorrow, followed by a week of cold, barely getting above freezing, and possible big snow next Sunday into Monday, followed by a decent warm up. I don't care about the late ice out, but I got tons of crap to do in the yard and around the house, before fishing. Going to Green Bay for some big walleye fishing in April, and taking a trip to Iowa and squeezing in some muskie fishing down there in May, then our season opens in June. When the heck am I supposed to get any of my chores done with a foot or two of snow on the ground? Actually, by the numbers, a pretty average winter. We just haven't had many average winters over the last decade. I remember multiple walleye openers(mid May) with some ice still on lakes, and some lakes and spawning grounds closed, as there was still active spawning on opener. I've just got stuff to do, and am tired of waiting.

We Iowa folk really hate the early warm spring weather. Last couple years have been 80°F+ water in June. Really makes the season short

Posts: 267 | We are colder this year than in 2013 in April and no real warm-up in sight. Plus ice hasn't really even begun to melt. We might beat 2013. No need to thank me for this cheery update. LOL.

Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Figures. I'll be in Missouri. 2" more today, blasting winds and record cold. Hit a lake east of us yesterday, about 28" of ice and a foot and a half of snow. Keith and I iced 17 bluegills and a dozen crappies and had some for brunch. Perfect.

Weird. Came out of the YMCA in Rhinelander today, between the snow and wind, felt like a bad day in January. Going to my nephew's bachelor party tomorrow. It includes a fishing contest on the Wolf. I have a conflict that will prevent me from getting there before dinner and can't participate in the fishing contest. Felt bad when I first responded, a month or so ago. Now, I am glad my role will be to sit by the campfire, eat dinner and enjoy a brew or two. May walk down to the raft and see how the team of older guys fishing there is doing. I will cheer them on.

Posts: 267 | Did some digging in the Brainerd, MN climate data. After Saturday night, there will be 7 days in single digits or lower for lows in April. That is unprecedented in the data records for Brainerd. That is over 100 years of data. Edited by Smell_Esox 4/6/2018 3:23 PM
