Posts: 2024 | This seems like the post-election coverage. Legally, it is yours to keep, big difference between a reel and minnows though. If you have to debate what is moral and ethical, don't complain about someone giving you the shaft ever again.

Posts: 135 | IDK why people are saying they'd feel like a thief, he didn't steal anything, they sent it to you. You didn't walk into the store and putting a reel in your pants and walk out. So let's say you accidentally overpay the store for something you buy. Give them an extra $20 bill, or put an extra "0" at the end of the amount on the check. The store notices that they were overpaid, but says, "Ha! Merry Christmas to us!" and keeps the money. You good with that too? I mean, it's not like they took the money out of your pocket. You GAVE it to them. Your fault, too bad, so sad.

Posts: 20229 Location: oswego, il | I had a fishing company send me extra once, i contacted and they said dont worry about it. How would a store determine who overpaid unless the cashier noticed it during the transaction? Whatever you do in those situations shows your true character.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | ALWAYS.......do the right thing. There are lots of things we can do that we shouldn't and lots of things we don't have to do that we should. Take it from someone who has done the opposite of both. (*** any more than 1% saying that they have not done the same as me are delusional, lying or trying to get a rise out of people on the internet). Call the store and retailer and let them know what happened. See where it goes from there. Period. The "right thing" sure has become skewed these days.

When I worked for a multi state bank in the 1990s, they had a hard and fast rule: If a teller had a shortage of X dollars in their first 180 days, they were terminated. We had a teller in this situation, gave too much to a customer. Using video tape from the drive up window, we were 99.9% sure who got the money. Can even see his eye brows shoot up when he counts his cash. Looks like he got hit with a thousand volts. However, when contacted, he said no, he got the right amount. As a result the teller was fired. I really hope karma jumped up and bit the guy in the butt when it hurt him the most.

Posts: 81 | Personally I would call the business. Whether it's a cashier handing me back an extra quarter or a bank teller handing me an extra $800 (which has happened), for me it's worth it just to see the look of shock on their face when someone does actually do the right thing. If you have to ask, or justify, you most likely know what the right answer is already.

(It's not right to keep) I think the OP was looking for people to say it's fine if it was kept that way he could feel good about it if he chooses to keep it.

It is now up to YOU to fix the situation that YOU put yourself in. They are not obligated to make it right for you, and shouldn't be. Why do we expect that when you make an error in life it SHOULD be fixed by somebody ELSE? Wrong. Life's not fair!!!!!! Forget that karma crap are you kidding me? Get real.

Posts: 134 | Alright, do what some of the other fellows said and buy a rod for your new acquired reel. Than fish with both of the reels, but put a piece of tape on the side of the new mistakenly shipped new reel. I will bet you will lose the biggest fish you ever had on the reel you identified as the mistaken free one. If you only had the one you rightfully paid for you would have caught the fish. Life has a way of working like that. Ponder this before you do anything.

If I keep that reel I will do exactly like u stated.....Reels sitting in the box on table other one is on rod and been fished...unfortunately I don't think that reel or any other reel is gonna have anything to do with me losing fish big or small unless it fails mechanically...and you wouldn't never know any ways cause if you didn't get the reel and keep you would never have that rod you were fishing with that reel so couldn't hook the biggest fish ever to lose...

Posts: 2024 | I guess I should have kept the box that blew out of the boat in front of us this summer instead of grabbing it and emailing the guy on facebook and then flagging them down. Those rare high dollar baits and all the cash in his wallet would have bought me a couple new Ss.... There is no You kiddo, it's You and those you are in relationships with. What we are saying is by making a selfish choice for YOU, you are not considering how this, and subsequent actions, may affect you and others. Merry Christmas, I guess.

Posts: 8789 | Someone screwed up. Chances are if you call them and tell them what happened they'll be happy not to have to account for missing merchandise. You might just save somebody's job. And there's also a chance that whoever you speak with will be impressed enough with your honesty that they'll say "Hmm. Tell you what... Just keep it. Merry Christmas!" We've all done stuff that we looked at later on and thought "that wasn't right..." Better off to do the right thing.
