Again can't answer the cold weather questions but this years model has been used very hard without issues. Here's something that has helped the smoothness and quietness for me.At times with hard use the shaft actually looks roughened up.I carry a rag n spray can of Kroil in the boat n every few days, spray the rag n then rub down the shaft.Smooth man, smooth.

Love my terrova 101. Same concern with others on the Ulterra when it comes to my favorite time to fish in November... Hope it holds up because the stow/deploy is cool.

Terrova has many many, many hours on it since 2008 and i finally had to put new brushes and seals in the motor this last off season. Foot pedal itself has never worked since i got the thing, but i like using the arrows anyway for turning. I would never do cable steer again. That pedal profile is horrible in the big wind for steering and trying to keep your balance on the big water i fish.

i can't imagine fishing big water without leaning and using my pedestal ... guys who do without one or fish one legged without a pedestal have a lot better balance than i do. that said, i am going to do my best to try to learn to change old habits and spend more time with both feet on the ground. old dog n new tricks thing ...

any more reports from someone who has run an Ulterra a year or more? durability?
one question I have is, if the auto deploy goes out, is there a way to manually stow and deploy or would you be S O L on a trip?

i was thinking the same thing Brad and need to look into it. from what i've investigated the belt is the wear part of note. i need to check in and see how difficult it is to replace and/or to your point, is there a manual override for stow and deploy. sure is nice pushing the button!!

Yes you can manually stow-deploy. I have never need to, but i think you remove side plates release a pin.

When my belt jammed up I had to manually stow it, that part was pretty easy. Obviously you can't use it anymore till it gets fixed. The belt and motor it runs thru get replaced, it was covered by the warranty no questions asked. Fixed in less then a week.works better now then when I first got it last spring 2015. Smooth going up and down used to jerk around a lot when deploying.

I bought and installed my Ulterra 112 (replacing 4 year old Terrova 101) early this spring.

I fished with it twice early on with starting temps below 32°...but not much. No problems.

Stow and deploy is nice - it saves time - but to me the ability to trim up and down (I run shallow a lot to retrieve lures I've stuck in something).

Other comments: Quieter than my Terrova, both running and turning. Seems to turn faster, but that's subjective.

Spot Lock is about the same...maybe a little better.

Pulls a little stronger than the 101...not much, but a little.

Seems a little easier on the batteries.

One comment on the batteries: Make sure you've got a full charge, and charge it every night and that your batteries are in top shape. I had one of my three batteries that was getting weak...12 hour days on LOTW in June ran me to the point where the motor didn't stow properly on a couple of days.

Overall, the Ulterra is a better TM for me than the Terrova. Wondering about the Ultrex, and the new improved GPS functions in 2017.

Remote went on the bllnk today so just a heads up when you run it manually off the foot pad, give yourself MORE TIME to deploy the unit. You likely will find yourself closer to your spot than intended.I did.

Owned a terrova..... Bought a ulterra and installed a Minn kota charger. One of the best investment I've made. My trolling motor batteries never get below 3/4 charged.

Further North, if you fish LOTW make the investment and install this... best $130 I have put in my boat... you'll never get below 2 bars most likely on LOTW as it charges the TM batts on the fly..

I ordered an Ulterra, will keep the terrova as backup tho!

A bad/good experience to report. My remote went out is the bad news. The good news is using the motor without it has improved my overall 'feel' for it,especially in wind. The really good news is despite even dealers saying finding Ulterra 'remotes' is hard, all one need do is call Mn Kota. They'll ship one right away and send you a shipping label to return your old one.No charge.#*^@ SWEET!

Thanks - I mostly make short hops from spot to spot...with a long run at the end of the day to get back to camp.

Think it's still be an advantage?

Yes still worth it..... For what they cost I can't think of a reason why anyone would not have one. Especially with an ulterra. Let's pretend that for some reason your batteries did die. Which in my 4 months with the charger almost sounds impossible. All you would do is start your boat for 5 min and done. I have not tried the manual stow. But in the instructions it doesn't look like the easiest or most fun thing to do on the water.

so, I put on the ulterra, haven't used it yet, but from reading this thread, for me to use the standard auto pilot (like the one on my terrova or powerdrive) the only way to enable that Auto Pilot is from holding down the North button on the remote a couple seconds? thanks for the info

edit: read the owners manual online and figured it out!

well, after putting about 120 hrs on mine since I got it a month ago.. overall I love it... last week I fished in the back of the boat all week to let some buds have the front deck/first bait thru... the thing I loved the most was not having to wait for them (or even tell them) to put the TM in or out... I just hit the button on the remote and bam,,we are fishing , or off to the next spot.... only downfall I don't love is having to hold the autopilot button down on the remote to get the "old" autopilot....
one other quirk is I wish they programmed it so that it when you deploy it, it points straight...not 90 degrees to the right every flippin time

If you have ipilot link, you can go in the sonar and set it to legacy mode and it stays for ever.

Any way to do this with regular iPilot ?

Only by pushing and holding n^ button till the ring goes away every time you want legacy mode.

If anyone is thinking of getting one you might want to wait on the new models. They are adding BlueTooth, heading sensor for more precise Spot Lock and accuracy and new Ipilot/Link remotes.

You can also change the default settting on the Link remote: go into the controls for AutoPilot and set the default to either "Legacy" or "Advanced" for whichever one you use most often.

so question... I know there is a manual way to store it but thought of this... say you run your TM batteries way down, not enough juice to stow it... wonder if simply starting big motor, jumper cables from starter to 1 of the TM batts would be enough juice to stow it...? just thinking ahead for a 'what if' scenario...anyone?

Hmm?

I could see that working if it was a 12 volt Ulterra? Otherwise, how would you get 24 (or 36) out of a single battery?
