what it all boils down to boys is time on the water u can know what lakes they are fishing but it does not matter if u dont fish as much as they do. those guys either really do their home work or they have a really good network of people who they trust to let them know when a hot bite is going or if there is a lake that has muskies but not a lot of pressure aka lynn lake south dakota.

Yep. Skip it on the weekends during nice weather in the summer.
More muskies caught here using bass gear than muskie gear!

Probably opening a new can of worms, but any guesses to which "small" river they (KO) were on in the 2nd show? I have an idea and no I've never been on it or do I own a boat that I could even take on it.

Yep, have an idea. Nope, not going to say where.

that "small" river doesn't need any more pressure.

Mosquito, It's a combination of both plus pure luck! It's funny how some people say they don't want to draw attention to "their" water and some can't wait to tell, even beg, Mike to come to their secret spot! TV has a funny effect on people! I've witnessed countless people out of nowhere telling him about secret water!

Roller, It is a very small river that gets NO pressure! We've been obsessed with this river stuff because there's SOOO much of it! MN, WI, IA and IL are covered with river muskies! #*^@ near every river in the area has some muskie population!!

Point is: Mike has the wanderlust to explore this stuff and the info is purely public and doesn't come from any network! It's super easy to find and explore! No need to travel far or snipe info from TV! Chances are there is a river in your backyard with muskies!!

A very good chance, actually. I can see one from my front window, never have fished it. Go figure.

I fish a lake in Canada every spring for walleye and pike, and some of the absolute best spots on this 68,000 acre lake are within a mile of our resort. We routinely drive 30 minutes to the other end of the lake to fish new water that looks good on the map...passing boats from that end of the lake who are coming up to fish stuff that looks good by us. It has to be some sort of psychological disorder.

Everybody knows the best fishing is 20 miles away in front of some other camp, even though those guys all go 20 miles to fish where you just left from.

Great point the few times my dad and I went to Canada he always looked at the map to check the water within a mile of camp we often found the best fishing within site of the camp. No pressure as everyone goes right by.

LOL, comment about not being able to catch muskies in front of your own place. We have owned the property since 2003 and the very first day we owned it, saw a nice musky caught right off our dock during the Hodag tournament. Have since seen a number of other muskies caught within a hundred feet of our dock, including two others during tournaments. I however have caught exactly none. I always test new lures while standing on my dock and have had a couple follows but no fish. Have caught a couple of northerns in the 30" range and a four or five pound bass while checking out new lures but no muskies. One day after a long day on the water, I even rowed out with a sucker I had used all day and put it out on the weed edge under a bobber after dark and watched it for a couple hours from my dock. No luck.

On the other hand, my nephew and his buddy were up to help put the roof on a storage garage a couple years ago and after supper decided to get in some fishing. They weren't fifty feet from the dock when his buddy caught the first musky he ever boated on a top water. We were all sitting outside so he had a cheering section as he landed it. Another time the same nephew and his brother were fishing our shore line and after seeing them I walked down to say hello. As I talked to the one in the bow, the nephew in the back hooked and landed a musky, again less than fifty feet from my dock. I have not given up and always make a few casts near my dock when coming back from fishing and figure sooner or later it will happen. Just afraid "later" is the operative word.

yah kinda funny...when they are promoting a resort they say the lake name...but when it's some puddle in SW Wi they aren't getting paid to promote a resort so they don't say..not that either lakes are secrets but I bet the guys that regularly fish Namakagon weren't thrilled he did a show out there... he is concerned enough to not say the lake name in one, but then in another he does since he is getting some sort of kick back from a resort... comical.. stay tuned next week for: As the musky world turns

Just a thought..... Wouldn't promoting a lake and a resort possibly help out the local economy and in turn help out the fishery.

All these fishing shows are- is just advertisements. Lindners, Musky Hunter, Keyes, all of them. this is how it works. Paid to promote product and places. Being able to watch fishing shows comes with a cost sometimes.
It sucks when it hits close to home.

I suppose that depends on how you define "help". In addition to renting a few rooms and restaurant visits you might sell some extra gas and a few cases of beer but I wouldn't expect to see many musky fishermen going into the local businesses, e.g. the Candle Cottage in Cable, unless they brought their wives along.

Local fisherman probably don't think it helps them much at all.

I fish Namakagon 2-4 weekend days every summer. Most times the only boats I see fishing are fishing Musky, it will be interesting to see if the pressure will increase from one episode. My guess is it will be the same as years prior.

The only TV personality I've actually had a conversation with is Mike Keyes and he seemed like a pretty good guy with the right intentions. I cant blame a guy for doing what he's doing because if I had the chance to switch careers with him I would in a heartbeat.

These are the Musky guys who bring their Keystones into a bar supporting a swap meet, right?

Yes because Namakagon is some big secret..... it's over 3k acres and listed as a trophy water by the DNR. If you google searched "Wisconsin trophy musky water" that would be one of the top lakes that comes up. Point being I don't think he's giving away any real secrets.

and like I said above... neither lake in the last 2 episodes is any secret but he went out of his way to not say the lake name in the 1st one on Redstone, like it was some secret lake, then said the lake name on Nam... guess I just find it funny.... one, no resort to promote..so keeps it out of the show, 2nd one, promotes Lakewoods resorts so says lake name... that's all

Well I guess if a resort wants to pay for advertising (in this case I'm guessing they "paid" with free lodging), then obviously they would get promoted in the show. I don't understand all the fuss.... so many people complain about a lack of tourists or fishermen hurting businesses -- I think it would be great and the area and people around there should be happy for the publicity. You can't have it both ways --- businesses open that rely on tourists but yet keep every lake, lodge, bar, restaurant, etc a secret ----- secret businesses have way of not being around long.
