Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | .Kingfisher nice to see you and your wife again at the Michigan Musky Show! Man that was one big 55" Queenfisher caught! Well it is kinda rare for one of these to stop by in a Cleveland suburb. I know up North you have a bunch of them. Not so many in Ohio. It first got into my bee hives in November. I thought he was gone but he returned after his winter nap. He came last Saturday and has been hanging around for last couple of days. I got the trail camera out and got thes pics. He can leave now! I just made the eyes out of extra epoxy that was left over from top coating lures. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | I know you guys up North probably still have ice on your lakes. Our inland shore casting for walleyes has started here. Here are some pics of days soon to come. I messed around with making this little walleye bait last week. It is from mahogany and 4" long. I got to cast it along some rocks yesterday before darkness set in. On my second cast I got a nice 26" in two foot of water. A nice start to the season! PS. I got a hook in the back of my thumb when I went to gill the fish. All the blood is both of ours mixing. I feel an extra bond with this fish! Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Hey everyone This one has me excited to try soon on some musky water. I have been playing around with this idea throughout the Winter months. The weighting was tricky. I messed up 3 bodies to get the right action and who knows now many wire / blade combinations. It spins great on a straight retrieve. You can twitch it and it has a glider action with quick darts. On the pause it will decend forward slowly with the blade spinning the whole time. I am hoping to follow deep weed lines and drop-offs. A gaint blade gives the bait a different action. It actually makes the bait shimmy. It moves alot of water and wants to keep the bait moving in a staight line only. I changed it back to a smaller one for the darting action. The big blade will work good up at St.Clair with an inline weight attached 4 feet in front of it. It can't wait to get a follower and give it a couple of quick twitches with the bait shooting to one side or the other. It is not a heavy setup at all. I am happy with that. No lazy follows anymore........... I hope!  I am working on some other patterns also. I hope to have some available soon on Ebay. This one is for me. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Thanks for the kinnd words everyone. I know this whole thing is obsessive for me!  Scott the ebay thing works for me. I can do some lures and list them when I feel like it. I guess I never realized how long it takes me to make them. I just putz along at my own pace. I always have a bunch in progress. As many as 50 of them. I just walk into the shop and pick a couple that I feel like working on that night. I do them in steps. I may not go back to work on a lure for months. I have tried to get some lures really to list with a projected time line and I always fall short and stressed out. LOL. Anyhow my seller name is "Tiggermuskylures" on there. I know I pay alot in ebay fees and paypal selling them that way but it works with my family time. Then you have to pay an excise tax of 10 percent on what the selling cost is to the Federal Government. I think it works out to just over 20 percent goes to taxes, listings and fees. Erik I hope all is well over there! I know your pike season will be starting soon! Here is a couple more new ones that I will playing around with this year. It is a little different twist to the spinner bait style. I move the spinner wire back into the body to help stablize the rollback. I hope to do more musky fishing this year less chasing of the walleyes with the price of gas. I like to cast for the muskies. I am going to call these "Spin Shads" They are 5 inches long. 2.5 ounces and cast great. Although I've no doubt the amount of passion and work going into these beautiful lures is extraordinary, I'm afraid that's a bit out of my price range. Nonetheless, if my pockets were a bit deeper - I'd definitely pick one up. | ||

LOL Well I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend. Man there has been alot of rain here this spring in Cleveland. It has slowed down many different kinds of bites from steelhead to muskies. I got to get out a couple of times for the Cleveland walleye night bite. It was a bit on the slow side this spring. I did manage a nice 11.25 pounder. It was not one of my homemade baits but was fun to catch. Man did it fight hard! I caught it on a power turn. I was just trying to turn the boat around fast to get back to some fish I passed over. It was on the outside board. The lure had to be going over 3.2 mph. We thought it was a steelhead. We normally troll 1.3 ish that time of year. I took a couple of pics and let her go to fight another day! I did catch a couple on some homemade baits. I got this nice 9.25 pounder on a 6" smelt body. I had it painted as a golden shiner but decided to add the blue stripes on it to finish it off. I had this green tiger catch one little 3-1/2 pounder a couple weeks back. The night bite has pretty much ended and the day bite it starting to kick off. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Small gliders are always tricky in getting a good action out of them. They tend to not glide like larger bodies do. You get more of a darting action with a quick stop. Here are a couple 4" gliders. I did a couple more of the "Twisted" stuff. One is a Twisted perch. I like how it came out. I am scaled out for a while! LOL I hope everyone is doing great. Hopefully the rain will stop here. I hope to get out and chase some muskies soon. I don't like fishing muddy water. I had a bearing burn up on my lower unit on my 200 hp motor. Hope to be chasing some walleyes soon on the big lake of Erie. Happy Memorial Day everyone! I am thankful everyday for the troops past and present that have made sacrifices for our freedom and this great country we live in. I often ask myself if I would have had the courage that they had. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Hey everyone, I hope your summer is going well. Man has it been hot! It actually helped me get back in the basement to stay out of the heat of the day. Well I started playing around with some thing stuff that I have thought about for some time. There are some incredible luremakers out doing some amazing things. I know some of builders from Finland have been making lures from real fish skin. I am amazed how good they look. Bowhunter does some amazing stuff with the snake skin also. I decide to give the fish skin a run at it. I was fishing on Lake Erie a couple of weeks ago out the eastern end of Ohio. We decided to get our jumbo perch first thing in the morning and head out to deeper water for some walleye action. After getting our perch we headed out for the walleyes. The first walleye of the day I got was a nice 9.4 lb fish on a crawler harness. While the fish was laying on the floor it coughed up the remains of a 10" perch. I was stunned. I know they eat perch but I was suprised how big the perch was. I included a pic of the fish. Later that day after cleaning the fish I was thinking about walleyes and perch. I was looking at the skins in the trash bucket and decided to pull some out for a test run of lure skins. I decided to start simple with taking some skin and attaching them to walleye blades. I like how they came out. Then I started to journey of the wrapping a wood blank. I decided to try a rubberband technique. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | So I started wrapping some perch styles and walleye styles. The skin was from that big walleye. I had many perch skins to try. The first night I had the skins out the critters got into them I lost some. The next day the crows had them all over the yard! Here are some that I finished yesterday. The first is a 8" bait and they get smaller after that. I am happy with the first try. I have some others in progress. I am hunting some some more skins tomorrow. All the baits are made of cedar. I will have some more soon. Nothing like the smell of fish and epoxy. It kinda stays with you for a couple of days!
