Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | My logic while sound is slightly twisted. If it is not a giant maybe he is ruling out the Giant Jackpot, so maybe its a Poes bait- their even made out of wood. If it's one of the first to disappear maybe it's the POE'S AWAKER? I know, I'm grasping, but it did follow some sort of thought process.

Posts: 1237 Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Subject : cheap split rings on lures=good idea? Posted : 2001-11-17 3:47 PM Post #15227 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- purposefully putting weak split rings on large lures would probably result in saving lots of lures, but would also result in lots of your muskie hookups getting away, and with the hook buried in its mouth...not a good idea. I know that some people think those hooks will eventually fall out, or rust away, or otherwise dissappear, but in the meantime the fish is severely hindered and put at a big disadvantage in surviving. not my idea of catch and release I have Cabellas 17 foot aluminum extension retriever, and it has retrieved all lures i have hung up in 15 feet of water or less except for one type....large rubber worms...they don't seem to get hooked by the hoop. it has paid for itself many times over, and also will work in trees if you're snagged at 17 ft or less. good fishing...jwl

Posts: 1237 Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Subject : cheap split rings on lures=good idea? Posted : 2001-11-14 5:46 PM Post #4611 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I recently was trying to get a bucktail out of a tree by casting a believer and I finally did get it stuck really bad, I pulled and pulled and nothing. I finally put the trolling motor in its highest speed and sped away. After the lure fell I reeled it in and was glad that the whiplash was so strong. But I noticed the split ring had broken and the lure came off the hook. Think about it, they're worth split rings, strong enough to hold a muskie, but not strong enough in a snag situation. I may have to replace all my split rings with cheap ones. Also, they were size 6 since i forgot to say that.

Posts: 419 Location: Appleton, WI | Usually the first to disappear would be a post in conjunction with the notorious Hughes River baits. But than again I would imagine with a bait that has the name like the Phantom could also fit that discription also . catch ya later, Krappie
