Posts: 314 Location: Bristol, IN | 1) 3 colors of 25 2) 25 Blade Colors 3) Weighted & Non-Weighted 4) 3 Different Split Rings 5) 4 Different Sizes 6) 9+ Blade sizes THE GLITCH IS LOCATED HERE. 7) Typo on the word "variety"...A wide verity of colors are also stocked. Without the specific number of Willowleaf blade sizes available, a precise number cannot be attained. Not enough information to calculate. Please provide me with the points. Thank you in advance, lambeau.

Posts: 134 Location: (South of the 218) | n(n-1)(n-2) when n=25 25*24*23 or 25!/(25-3)! 25*24*23*22/22 Answer = 13,800 Possible Skirt Combinations of Glittertails I teach 6th graders and they loose points if they don't have labels. out K p.s. - In Round 4 - the challenge used the word "EACH " - which leads one to infer that they would then earn 2 points for each picture of a species other than a muskie/pike..... and the challenge listed bonus points for largest and smallest, tempting those point mongers like myself to think that one may earn multiple points with multiple pictures.... hence my EPIC Goldfish Idea - I'm guessing no style points this time eh? - but leaving the computer to slay the crappies on Saturday was the price I had to pay. Posts: 1061 Location: Medford, WI | there are 25 different colors of skirt material to choose from. if you were to order a custom bucktail using 3 different skirt colors, how many possible skirt color combinations could you create? I've got to go out on a limb here with my answer...although, it does make sense according to the wording of your question. You ask how many possible skirt color combinations you could create using 3 different skirt colors; however you didn't specify exactly how many skirts could be used on the bucktail. Here's an example: My three different skirt colors are: 1. white 2. black 3. gold With these three different colors of skirts, I could make an infinite number of skirt color combinations (2 black skirts, 1 white skirt and 2 gold skirts is just one example). The math major part of me says that 13,800 is the correct answer, but the musky fishermen in me says that I need to try anything to win these baits!!! -Jake Bucki

PEteacher44 - 3/22/2009 9:03 AM 2,300 25! / (3! x 22!) = 2,300 correct! there are 2300 possible combinations, and that is the proper formula. count on a teacher to get it right! the key is recognizing this as a permutation/combination problem. the difference is that in permutations, the order the items are chosen in matters; with a combination the order does not matter. in this case, the order does not matter (white/black/red is the same as black/red/white in a bucktail skirt...), so it's a combination. i tried to give a clue to this in the question by asking "how many skirt color combinations..." SO...the next time you want a lure that "the muskies haven't seen before", give Jim a call and make your own up. when you start to add more than 3 skirt colors, plus the variations with blade size and colors...it's endless!

| I guess since his skirting material is mixed this would be correct. If you were just using solid colored skirts I would argue that color placement wouldn't matter. A skirt that went white/black/red would look different than one that went black/red/white.......dang. | |||

| Round 7...close to the end! imagine that you stop by Jim's house to pick up your new custom-made Glittertail. you want to test it out immediately, so you drive to a nearby muskie lake within 60 miles. post a picture that shows where you've gone, and proves that it's the right place. (hint...something that includes a place name might be helpful...) 15 points each for the first 5 correct answers; no repeats. | |||
