I got an email about the new Abu reel that won the ICast 2014 Best New Freshwater Reel award. It sounds like this is going to be a great reel for throwing big heavy baits. Hopefully they offer a left-handed model.

#*^@! I thought it was a new musky reel that would be good for throwing pounders. It doesn't make since for them to make a heavy duty bass reel when a person could just use a Toro in the 50 size.

It does if you are a Bass guy. Stand by, you will get what you are hoping for....

It won best new FW reel in show at ICAST, too.

Guys at the musky shop told me it would be on the market in a few months. It will rival the Tranx and coast approx 350.

That's a bummer. R&M musky shop and R&H musky shops both told me it was coming but had very little details and only said it would be a few months. BPS said its the new beast but that's not a muskie reel

SWORRALL, you said back in July that you were going to get your hands on one (to test I assume). Can you say anything about it... size, round or low profile, ratio(s), etc., or how about just if you liked it or not (if you are unable to say specifics)? In your opinion, do you think that it will make for a good Musky reel? Curious if it is a saltwater reel (Tranx like), or something different?

Anyone else know any facts about this larger reel (other than its release time)? Thanks.

I asked if it would rival the Tranx and they said I would probably be very happy with it. What that means exactly Im not sure, they gave me no specs.

If they came out with something to compete with the Tranx, that was a little smaller, a little lighter, and sold for about $350, I think they'd sell like hot cakes, even if they picked up about as much line as the PG Tranx does.

Does it sound like they won't be available until ICAST 2015? That's sometime in the summer isn't it?

From what i found online it looks like the ICAST event is July 14th-17th. I'm really looking forward to seeing this reel too. I love ABU and have been leaning towards buying a tranx, but am not in love with the size.
