Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Hoping to be out on deep clear lake in Indiana (how is that for Lake X-ing it?!) that is shad and perch based in forage. Since it will HOPEFULLY be pre-spawn, I'm thinking something in the medium to a bit larger size...so an old-school 9" cisco kid in silver/black will probably do it if I'm fishing off the breaks. If we're going medium depth (7-12') just a bit over the break, I'd go with an 8" HR shaker. If those two tactics aren't showing fish, I'm seeing going sharrrrow w/ a bomber long a slow twitched. If that doesnt work, I see going in for a lunch break then convincing my partners to troll for a few hours. |

Location: Ontario, Canada | Bucktail for me too. Cover the water and see if that's what they want. If not, a super shad rap in bluegill or perch got it done for me on opener last year.

| It's interesting. Last season, I began with working smaller baits, and working most of them slowly. Had minimal action. But then again, it was a weird season with Spring being so late. What's interesting was that a buddy of mine was throwing double 10's and big spinner baits and burning them right off the bat and had a lot more success than I did. |

| If my boat partner throws a phantom I'll throw a shallow invader until he catches one on the phantom, then I'll switch to a phantom, wishing I had done it sooner. |

Smallie fishing early last year was OFF THE HOOK! Not only a ton of giants, but they were heavily schooled up for the first month or so. I will also have an X-Rap on one size down from the "musky" size, or the "musky" size one.
Walleye opener, if it is open water and I have tagged out on my turkey, will be a Rapala Minnowrap.
Musky opener...way too early to say what I will use. I will let the conditions at the time indicate that.  |
