Posts: 252 | This last year (2013), I made a resolution to do more figure eights and to figure eight longer when I have a follow in. Surprisingly, this was a resolution that I actually kept throughout the year. I found out that I do a lot better with this type of resolution than one of my usuals, like losing weight, or exercising more, or giving up chewing tobacco. Anyway, I can attribute 8 muskies over this last year to having been caught during a figure eight, or by making a big circle at the end of my retrieve. So, this year I am making a resolution to do more vertical jigging with bondy baits and to maybe jig some spoons. Haven't really tried spoons much yet but I would really like to learn how to use them effectively. Anyone else have any musky fishing resolutions to make for 2014??

Posts: 441 | Try to find more "off the beaten path" spots, on the Big V. Every year I find more and more spots. Also, try more trolling, early in the season. Maybe more night fishing, too. It's just tough, fishing solo.

Posts: 833 | I plan to invest more time in Open Water this coming season. Just wish I could use more than one line trolling in MN... Will spend more time on cisco systems as well. I love my metro waters due to proximity, but there is something about fishing a lake where any cast could be a monster. Just adds to the fun.

Posts: 633 | I want to try some more river fishing. I love several lakes near me, but when you have 4 boats working one direction on a shoreline, and 3 coming the other way it gets to be a bit much.

Posts: 1283 | To actually boat a fish. Only had a week up north last year and had 2 on, one shook the hook and the big girl broke my line. Ever since then Ive been on a mission fishing near me in IL. They are new spots to me and havent seen a thing yet but learning the lakes pretty good.

Posts: 192 Location: Quebec, Canada | Get comfortable with more casting techniques and finally get a fish while casting. All my fishes have been caught trolling but I figured that I didn't necessary had the proper equipment to last a whole 8 hours casting which is why I was always going back to trolling. Wont' be the case next year.

Posts: 157 Location: Lincoln, NE | Get my sister and Dad to catch their first Muskies. Catch one on a figure 8 (only have caught a northern on the 8 so far and missed a musky) Fish into the night more. Break the state record on VIO POV.HD and let it go. Get better at jerkbaits. I have one lure that has raised many muskies. More than any other this season. It has been smashed against the rocks, nipped at, chomped on, chased through the figure 8, knocked out of the water like a great white to a seal 3 feet from the boat, repainted, homemade new PVC lip built on when ripping through the weeds broke the original lip off, and it now wears a complete epoxy helmet holding its head from breaking off. It is my go to lure but has only caught a Northern. I pull it out, it raises a musky within 10 minutes then it breaks and is done all trip. I finally have it to the point where it won't break and where the split rings are top notch and the hooks are bigger and stronger. That lure NEEDS to catch me a musky because it has already deserved to be retired.

Location: MN | Fish small rivers more. The limited time I did this year was very productive and there is 0 pressure. Fish for something besides muskies during the season. This is going to be a tough one but my family and freinds will be happy. Fish the deeps more.

Location: Eastern Ontario | Get rid of 3/4 of my lures and concentrate on using 15 or 20 proven (by me baits ) I caught a lot of fish when all my lures fit in a Styrofoam minnow bucket. Now it's 2 Lakewoods and 30 Planos. I keep telling my self it's OK most came off raffle tables ( actually not totally true ) Edited by horsehunter 12/9/2013 9:00 PM

Exactly, I think this is advice many musky fisherman can take. When I first started I took it way too seriously, and the older I get and the less I care about actual results and just enjoy the time away from work/stress the more I enjoy it.
