I'm assuming this is the Vermillion Tourney that everyone was chattering about before.

Hi Everyone:

First let me say the “Simply Fishing Muskie Classic” is indeed a fact. An judging by the way our phones are ringing, it will be HUGE.

Anglers and spectators alike will be rubbing elbows with the best the industry has to offer. Some of the finest muskie talent on the planet will be there demonstrating their skills. The question on everybody’s mind today, is who will be the winner, who will take home $100,000.00 and the title. Well, I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you this. The winner of the “Simply Fishing Muskie Classic” will become the richest tournament muskie angler in the world. And, will carry the title for an entire year, spending all of 2005 preparing to defend it in the second annual “Simply Fishing Muskie Classic”, when things will get even more interesting.

In the mean time let me try to address some of the postings as of this point.

Comment; Being the event is in 2004, there is a long time to hype this one.

Response; Your correct, there is a lot of time to hype this one. There is also a lot of time for everyone to budget their entry fees and prepare for such an event. We will be spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to pull this event off, and NOT ONE RED PENNY is coming from an angler. The total pay back is 100% as of today, and may even go higher as sponsors support grows.

Along with the 100% payback will be the opportunity to be noticed by industry leaders, major manufactures and quite possibly help everyone by improving an anglers chance to receive some additional notice or rewards for their efforts.

Anglers in attendance will also be seen throughout our viewing area which will amount to more than 150 million households. What other muskie event is approaching those numbers?

Hype can be a good thing. If we embrace it, the sport will grow even more.

Comment; There was a post regarding the entry fee.

Response; Please follow closely. Our phones opened today. To enter the event, you must reserve your spot with a $500.00 deposit. In January of 2004, another $500.00 will be due. And later in 2005 the balance will be due. We have spread it out over the entire period to benefit everyone. If you wish to send it all in, we will accept it in full. If you wait, you might be too late. You must be the judge of that. The ENTRY FEE is nonrefundable, however, it is transferrable. See rules for details on our site, www.simplyfishing.com.

Comment; There was a comment regarding interest on the entries.

Response; As with any business there are costs. Interest from entry fees will be used toward the event. No one will get rich off the interest, however, with that being said, I do understand the comment. I only hope you realize this is a business and we are already giving 100% back to the anglers.

There was also a reference to sponsorships. There are three levels, all offer different exposure depending on your required package. Any interested sponsor can contact me at Simply Fishing, or simply follow the instructions on our site, www.simplyfishing.com.

I also had a MI member email me in regards to whether or not there will be any monies donated back to the fishery. We are currently working on a program that could raise considerable funds for the resource. However, at this point there are no guarantees.

We have approached some tournament promoters, and are in the process of approaching even more, regarding a qualification ladder. These private circuits are the body of the tournament scene and are being offered a buy in option to the Classic. If they participate, those entries will be devoted directly back to the resource in the form of a donation. We have not decided to what or where the donation will go at this point. The teams qualifying through this program will be added to the field.

Judge Boats; We will be securing 45 judge boats for the event and if you want to man one, please feel free to contact us. There will be plenty to learn from the experience.

I hope I have answered some of your questions and for now I will say good night, shut off the lights and call it a day.

And for those wanting such an event and opportunity, thanks for the overwhelming response.

For those of you still needing more information, please go to www.simplyfishing.com, we have everything necessary posted.

Sincerely,
Bob Mehsikomer

Bob,

Thank you for the update. This should prove to be quite the event and as you say will give publicity to Musky Fishing like it has never seen.

I am in the hunt for a partner as we speak.

You want to see some BIG $$$, check out some of the saltwater tournies...this one appears to offer some cool chances and opportunities to have fun and do what peeps like doing best. Would really be neat to be in a judge boat too. Hope it works out ok for you guys; buddy of mine got beat out last year in a Blue Marlin Tourney in Cape Hatteras on the LAST 1/2 day, so you never know!

Hi Everyone:

Sorry for the mistaken post last night. It was almost 8:00 pm, I had a full 13 hour day under my belt and my fingers weren't communicating with my brain.

You will note as Steve Caddy pointed out, I miss stated the payment schedule. I inadverntently indicated some of the payment would be due in 2005, instead of 2004. I'm sorry. Thanks Steve.

The following is the acurate version. Again thanks for keep me on my toes.

Response To Payment schedule; Please follow closely. Our phones opened today. To enter the event, you must reserve your spot with a $500.00 deposit. In January of 2004, another $500.00 will be due. And later in 2004 the balance will be due. We have spread it out over the entire period to benefit everyone. If you wish to send it all in, we will accept it in full. Bob,

Reading from your posts I assume this will not be a one time event. Do you plan on a rotation of lakes or will it be on Vermilion every year? Unfortunately I won't be fishing the event. Not enough experience and not enough money. Hope all goes well.

Andy

Andy:

To answer your question, We are only planning one event each year, "The Classic". The "Classic" could move around, however, we are not prepared to discuss this at this point.

As I said earlier, the existing tournament circuits are the blood and guts of muskie tournament fishing. We will do our part to expose their anglers at every turn. Thus the reason for the qualification process in my aforementioned post. We realize not everyone can afford our event, we also know there are many out there that can, or will find a way. We also know there are plenty of tournament anglers that would rather spend a week, pay the entery fee and have a chance at such a purse. Regardless, we are not creating another circuit, but instead, the "Classic", an annual event.

Sorry you can't make the event.Judging might be an option.

Good luck on the water this season.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the email! Most pronounce it Caddy anyways! hehehe

I for one am looking forward to this event. It has the potential to reach anglers that have no knowledge of Muskies and Musky fishing. It will create interest in the sport as well as educate non Musky anglers on how we treat this very special fish. Hopefully someone that doesn't know what a Musky is yet comes to vacation at the Big V and will know what a Musky is when they catch it. This tournament will also have a economic impact on the Lake Vermilion area.

I also agree that I will be fishing it for the chance at saying I won $100,000.00 doing what I love. Selfish? Sure. My only motivation? Nope.

Steve Cady

Bob:

I have a question regarding the scoring. I read your web site rules and ended up confused. It states that a legal fish will get 50 points with a point per 1/4" after that. If a 45 (used as an example) = 70 (50 + 20 for the extra five inches), How can a 50 incher (example) be worth 100 points as stated in your rules? 50 + 40 (for the extra 10 inches) = 90 by the math I learned???

Perhaps, but I would like to how the scoring works! Is the example in the rules wrong, or is there more to it than explained?

Sorry Ken,
I wasn't trying to be a smart a#$,
it was just a little boring Sunday afternoon humor.

Hooker,
It is $500.00 per team to hold a spot. You also need to send a copie of your insurance policy and a short
Bio of the anglers. A $300,000.00 liability policy is a requirerment to enter the event.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply on my first post. I've never thought of judging, but that sounds interesting? What must on do or have in order to be a judge for a tournament of this sort? Is there any compensation for room & board? Thanks.

Andy

Ken:

Wa are currently taking names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for those interested in judging.

Compensation will be awarded, however, the package is not yet been defined. Will a buck fifty, and all the coffee you can drink do?

Sent ALL contact information to Lisa, at [email protected]. and make sure you note your interest in judging.
