42.5 caught on "Crunch N' Munch" (the very beat on Jackpot) in 45ft. of water in 48 degree water temps. So much for going by "the book"! Nice fight, then she attacked the boat!!!

I've caught a few right at 40" on various baits, but no big ones. Had some good ones follow and scare the crap out of me. Maybe this year.

I don't get many topwater fish, I try and fish more and more topwaters every year. My biggest was a 51 incher on a topraider. Never got the big top water hit the fish came from underneat and sucked it in, when I saw the bait was gone under I set the hook then the fight was on.

My biggest, so far, has been a 47" brute on a "Headbanger" which is like a small Slammer Thunderhead.
It gave a classic topwater chase and strike after pushing a wall of water, the last 40'!
It was caught on the Winnipeg River, above Minaki, ONT.

49 on a Jackpot.  Had a Chamber of Commerce fish take two "water flying, knee knocking" swipes at the same bait... but since I wasn't playing horseshoes or hand grenades (tough game by the way) I guess it's just a good story!

A 46" on a jackpot on Scattering Rice Lake (Eagle River). Picked up another earlly model Jackpot just like it at the swap meet at Magoo's. The early Jackpots were 1/2" longer and slightly larger in diameter than the ones made the last several years. The old models just seem to pop up higher on the rod snap and also ride higher in the water and I get better results from them.

I rarely throw a topwater because when it's a good time to throw one my dad always does so I throw something else. His biggest is a 46" 27lber on a topraider.

do you think the muskies that are caught on topwaters are larger ones? (I mean the average size)

divani,

I don't have a lot of top water catches to support a very good arguement. Only 6% (8) of my total muskies have been caught on top water. But the ones that I have caught on top water have averaged 4" longer.

That baby to the left is a 53 X 22 = 32.5 pound Tonka prize from last year that creamed a Joe Bucher Super Top Raider.

It porpoised below the lure on the first cast and then imagine a basketball size chunk of cement hitting the water from a 15 foot drop...

That's how it hit that STR on the second follow-up cast...

I still have wonderful dreams about that hit...
