Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Yeah, there are other species with their own merit's. I fish muskies because they are an enigma and a challenge.......... Watch this, it says a lot about why I love muskie fishing and have devoted so much time & effort in pursuing these fish. Its probably the best muskie fishing video ever! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ufuxLEMryo Have fun! Al

Posts: 182 | I don't know why I do anything. The fish? I've met some wonderful people over the years and some have become good friends. The places I've traveled to, to fish. Some of the little things. Being on a lake with a full moon on one of those painfully quiet nights. Your ears have been so overloaded with constant droaning of the "busy" world. I took my wife out on a night like that a couple years ago, small lake in NW WI. She hadn't said anything for a while, then made the comment "now I know why this is important to you". The list could be endless. I guess if it was just the fish it wouldn't be enough.

Posts: 1283 Location: Walker, MN | Great video link by the way, Bob is the man I.M.H.O. I'm less impressed with the macho chest thumping, rock and roll muskie fishing shows (although I do watch all of them). Bob is more of a purist I think. Just rod, reel, line, leader, lure and hopefully...a big beautiful fish.

Posts: 23 | To me its the reward of putting in countless hours of fishing for that 1 bite and getting it to the net. Also I like catching big fish and I have nothing better to do during the summer.

If I lose one more big musky this year I'm going to throw all my musky gear in the lake.

Posts: 667 Location: Wisconsin | Because they are always doing something that you don't expect. They are such a blast to catch, and there is always a chance that a monster could be on the line! They follow and then slowly just drift away, out of sight. The next time maybe he hits on the eight, or smashes it on the splash of the cast. You get the sound of the clicker as he picks up the sucker....man that is a great to hear! Anticipation, it is pretty powerful

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I've fished them for 45 years. My motivation has changed quite a bit over the years, evolving along the way as what the sport meant to my career, family, and friends changed. About a dozen years ago, Zach and I founded this place, and I have never had more fun working in my life. One could say 'everything fishing is my job', and the -chasing Muskies- portion has never been more enjoyable.

Posts: 383 Location: SE Wisc and Vilas County | there is just something about the musky that gets me. the follows, the boatside strikes, the clickers going off that never gets old. I do fish other species from time to time but will always consider myself a musky guy.

If I lose one more big musky this year I'm going to throw all my musky gear in the lake. I feel your pain. I have had the same fish throw the same bucktail, mid-air three times...from the same rock! I felt I had atom splitting sharp hooks and a solid hookset each time. Do you think I'll try for a 4th encounter?? That's why I do it. It's the definition of sport.

The fight, the mysteriousness (is that a word?) that surrounds them, and plus I always feel its like a personal accomplishment (for me) everytime I catch one. ---- Perfectly said! exactly what I was thinking. I love how challenging it is. Each time I catch one is a new lesson learned on the water. Each time I don't, is still a lesson learned on the water. Knowledge is power. And come on Fishing muskies in Fresh water is like being the BA that fishes Great Whites in the ocean - Apex predator. BRING IT ON!

Posts: 87 Location: Minnesota Metro | Because I don't like to eat fish and they get real big. Muskies and flathead catfish have always been two of my favorite things to fish for. Weather gets too hot for muskie and out come the big catfish rods.

Location: MN | 1. The adreneline rush. The rush I get from catching a nice one is like nothing else I've experienced while fishing. Nothing like trying to settle down the shakes so you can pull her out of the bag for a pic. 2. The challenge and reward. After long hours chasing these critters it makes for a better reward and feeling of accomplishment when it finally comes together. Anyone can catch a walleye.

Posts: 98 | Sometimes I scratch my head why I put in the time, money, and effort, but when you feel a giant strike there's not many feelings like it. Love the challenge of catching and mystique of what lies beneath. Never experienced anything like it that can take you from extreme frustration to the ultimate reward in a matter of seconds.
