Cortland.

- Less frays
- No random mid-cast break-offs
- Great spool/shelf life
- No waxy film or residues all over your reel or hands after first hour of casting
- Stronger fibers for fixing holes in landing nets
- Not sold online in counterfeit boxes or fake spools
- Made in USA (New York)

Why don't u like the power pro

It seems when I get a backlash with PP, I have to get out the line pick, where the other braids I've used i can just pull it out.

I have used Power Pro for many years, for both muskies and all other species. I have experienced none of the problems you ugys have found. I must be lucky. I switched momentarily to some Spiderwire Stealth and also tried some Suffix, and I greatly preferred the Power Pro to either of them.

I used Power Pro 65# for a couple years when I started musky fishing. Lost a bunch of lures when the line snapped on backlashes. Upgraded to 80# and only lost a couple. Switched to Tuf-Line XP 80# and have never lost a lure due to line failure. A few weeks ago up on LOTW I fished one day with a couple guys running 80# Power Pro...they lost 2 lures that day. One on a backlash...one when the guy made the first turn in the 8. The line was fraying in weird spots that can't be accounted for by hitting rocks or their rods/reels. I don't trust Power Pro to hold up and will never use it again.

I use both. I like masterbraid a little better but in all reality, I have had no issues with PP. Either will work just fine.

I used Power Pro when I first started fishing last year and through the beginning of this year. In June I sued a guides setup that had Cortland on it and any sort of an overrun was so much easier to get out. Then in July I had Power Pro break on the first cast with a brand new Shallow Invader and I said whelp, guess it's time to change. For me probably the most noticeable difference is the ease with which I can get out overruns. With Power Pro it was typically a 3 minute process to get out an overrun, with Cortland it's typically less than 30 seconds. I still have Power Pro on my other reel and I will say it's noticeably thinner than the Cortland, I have 80# of both, and I think this probably contributes to the ease of getting out overruns.

Cortland all the way. I have watched power pro break in my boat no less than 25 times...on backlashes, on fish, on hook sets, on rocks, etc... 100 lb Cortland is on all my rods. Never any issues.

I might end up switching in this off-season, it's just hard to abandon a product that hasn't failed me yet. If I switch I'm leaning towards the new Sunline. It's hard to take the advice of people who get paid to push a product.

I've been using Power Pro since 2008 & I have NEVER had any of the issues others are talking about. I use 8 LB & 10 LB hi-vis yellow for jigging walleye on the DR. Even pulled in a 65" sturgeon last year on 8 LB PP & it held up to the 50 minute battle but I was spent afterwards. I use 80 LB on all my musky reels & no issues there either. When jigging Bondy Baits in the DR I snag up a lot & I've pulled up 20' wood planks loaded with zebra mussels, large chucks of concrete with rebar, anchors wrapped around other crap, a motor cycle engine. Even when I couldn't get un-snagged I will tie the 80 LB PP around a cleat & it will anchor me in the current.

When you're casting pounders all day that will happen with all braids unless you use a higher LB rating.

I have noticed the same thing with stealth as well. I wonder what is going on. I have stepped up to 100LBS from 80LBS and have switched to vicious. Hope its good or I will go to masterbraid. Atleast that is the plan if I dont like vicious.

Why did you wait until 25 failures to switch?

My guess is that those are from client rods, when I guided even though I had equiptment for them to use, plenty of people liked to use their own set ups. BR

Just don't get any backlash... Jk. Have had similar issues with power pro and just switched over. No complaints yet with Courtland.

I have tried vicious and won't say its awful, but it did seem thick and heavier than the others. Casting distance wasn't as good but it did seem strong.

I've used spider wire. Had it break on a big fish right under my boat so I stopped using it. Switched to 65 lb power pro about 2 years ago and haven't had any problems with it yet.

Are the big spools of power pro that you see on ebay not really power pro?

I was thinking about buying some of it until I read this thread...

Reg power pro is great and have no issues with it. Super slick is JUNK! Frays all over from regular use. I have 80lb power pro on most my rods and 100lb masterbraid on my dawg rod and personally i like them both. The pp is rounder and i think casts a little farther

The debate will go on forever because each line has it's supporters. My own personal take is that Masterbraid has a more limp feel to it than Power Pro. Essentially the break in period for Power Pro is the water resistant coating wearing off. Once that is gone then the line has a better "feel". Cortland's water resistance material called Fiber Tech is bonded to the spectra fibers instead of just coated on. This results in a pretty darn dry line. If you care to look at technical specs you will find that Masterbraid has more piks per inch (weaves) than other braids on the market. This DOES give it a little more diameter than other brands of a similar line test rating but overall results in a much smoother feel. A few years back Cortland produced an advert that showed microscopic photos of their product after various amounts of revolutions on a reel vs. brand P and brand S. You can make up your own mind as to what those two letters stand for but the results were clear. The other two lines looked "shredded" compared to the Cortland line. So, while there are always going to be those who like Power Pro or any other lines (and that's fine) I believe the science and technology sits squarely on the side of the Cortland Masterbraid. If you really dig deep enough there is information available online about line weaving technology that pretty much backs up Cortlands claims. Since I work at a store that sells or has sold nearly every brand of braid that comes along. I always try to spool up a reel with the latest/greatest new stuff to hit the market. I need to know to be able to inform customers of how a product performs. In the end I put Masterbraid on all my personal reels and those of my client rod/reels setups.

Horrible experience with viscous. Watched one to many lures go flying when the line snapped. Heavy line and frayed too easy. 80lb power pro far better line in my opinion

Been using pp for this year and last and had no problems besides the color bleeding.
After reading what you wrote peter I think ill take the jump and spool up with some master before next trip out.

I've never used masterbraid but from hearing the great comments about it seems there is a good thing going on there. I used regular pp years ago and from what I can remember I never had any "problems" with it but kept trying other brands in search of something "better". Keeping in mind that I have used basically the same three rod and reel combinations for the past few years as a constant, knowing that I don't have any bad/nicked guides that would cause any brand of line to fray, I tried the vicious a couple years ago and came off after only two days of use, it got frayed and fuzzy that fast. I then put the newer power pro super slick in 65 and 80lb on and have not looked back. For me it has been great...break in, if you want to call it that, was maybe a day or two...very little color fading...very quiet coming through the guides...pretty darn dry too compared to some I have tried. It's interesting that of all the brands I have tried I never tried the masterbraid but unless something very bad shows up using the pp super slick I have no reason to try it now. Taking out the nicked guides, etc., with so many one end to the other comments about the same brands of line out there could it be that the quality control process from the manufacturers is to blame? Who knows...

I've never used power pro on my muskie rods, but know guys that have lost baits while casting with it. I have used Cortland Spectron for at least 10 years and have never lost a bait because of it, and I have had some backslashes that almost pulled the rod from my hands. Haven't tried master braid yet, but it will be my next switch.
