Who is with me?[]

Starting Thursday Jan 16th until March 28th the start of the Cave run outing, I am running a little wieght loss contest on site. That way we can be in better shape for the long hard days on the water next season.

Its going to run on the honor system and your peers will be the judges. Please place your wieght here in this thread and then every Thursday morning I will put up another thread to see the progress. Hopefully we will all work together to get more fit for next season. What you WIN is better health and more casts in next season.

Right now I am.....210

If I work hard enough...maybe 170 by Cave Run![]

MAN am I glad I am alittle taller than Jason....

I am 215, shooting for 185. Zach has already coached me some on the treadmill routine, and Sue and I have the thing tuned up. The rest is diet, and I CAN DO THIS, even at 50.

Slamr??
You in?

Slamr doesn't need much to come off any more (He is SVELT...), but maybe his constant badgering will force me to conform!!

I was 235 last Tuesday.....had a colonoscopy yesterday....after the prep for the procedure, I dropped to 221. So all of you who thought that I was full of crap were right.
Seriously, I'd be happy to make to to 220 if I could stay there.

Can you retro me into the contest? I was 212 last may and I am 180 now and been there since august. I would not mind getting to 175 but the last few have been hard even with working out every day.

Jason, For a guy that knows the diet of muskies so well you should know that you can have systems shut down if you lose 20% of your body in 2 months! The faster you lose wieght the faster it goes back on later. Diet is a habit that has to be trained for period of time. Go for 20#s before the Cave run and then 30#s before the opener. Oh the extra 10#s is from a few days at the Cave.[;)]

I'm in the process of developing a video workout series for those who have to look in the mirror one part at a time..."The Work Place Workout". This must have 30 minute film covers all the necessary information pertaining to diet, stamina, breathing and proper exercise to shed those unwanted pounds! You'll be on the edge of your seats as I bring you an action packed 1/2 hr. of sheer FUN; you'll learn the "BOSS TOSS"; an exciting way to build upper body strength along w/ the pleasure of watching him/her zoom through the air...the "SPINNER", which shows the correct method of gripping the bosses' wrists and swinging him/her 'round and 'round; great for balance and "sea leg" developement while singing "I'm wanna hold you 'til I die...'til we both break down and cry"...the "PLOW", which shows in detail how to grab "those in charge" by the ankles and "till the tile" on the work place floor... the "ROLL OVER", how to sprint, tackle the boss and roll across the floor, performed to the tune of "Role Over Beethoven"; this technique is great for endurance and helpful in case you hit the shore and are thrown from the craft.
I'll show you how to survive daily on a spoonful of grits,a drop of hot sauce, and a 1 oz. Dixie cup of h2o, and all the while maintaining the strength of 3 men!
Background music is provided by such favorites as Perry Como, Lawrence Welk, and my personal favorite, the ever popular Burl Ives! What better way to achieve your goal... [:sun:]

I am not going to the Cave either, but I will play along too.

Cady and I had a weigh in at the Chicago Musky Show at 3:15 am after the bar closed on Friday night.

Hey, it's the only way either of us would've ever made it into the 24 hour exercise room at the hotel !!!

I came in at 184 lbs. I' shooting for 160 lbs. It's not that tough if you exercise, I usually fluctuate between 155 and 170. I must say, 184 is by far the thickest I have ever been.

I won't say what Cady came in at, but let's just say it's 34 lbs heavier than the 220 he reported a few posts prior to mine

Should call you Walking Eagle...

No way are you 5'2"

You say those fish are upper 40's now I know you are lying...

Extend your own height then people will believe that the fish are bigger...what a concept.

Not to worry Larry! At 5'7" and 175, I can afford to go either way...I say we shoot for MORE! Bring on the meats, Velveeta stuffed bread sticks, jalepeno corn muffins, caffeine impregnated Coke Colas, pampered Pay Days and throat numbing hot sauce...we'll lose the extra weight later doing assorted chores for the women folk at home.... I'm in!
You guys all know I have back & shoulder problems related to arthritis, I also just started using a CPAP machine after a sleep study reveled that I don't breathe properly when I sleep.

Anyway, I have been using a new exercise bike, got a great deal at Fitness Quest online, and I am also using a back-exercise machine from Sportman's Guide, it's one of those roller-type things built into a weight bench to help strengthen and stretch my whole spine.

I want to start walking every day as well, but need to wait for 20-ish degree weather...

Of course I am also trying to diet to lose weight but I am much more focused on rehab for my back and shoulders so I can come out strong throwing mostly jerk baits next year.

Good luck guys! We'll all need much skimpier swimwear up in Canada if we're successful, maybe a Speedo party at my cabin?

Tee Hee,
Papa Joe

Here's a good tactic gentlemen:
I know they suck, but Lean Quisine and Healthy Choice frozen meals have helped a friend of mine lose about 30 pounds since October.

Keep a few in the fridge, especially if you find some that are not too horrible. Much better diet-wise than just about any drive-through fare, and of course the prep is quick & easy for those of you who don't have a house-wench.

I tried switching to Diet Mountain Dew, but went into high-fructose-corn-syrup withdrawal--shakes, nausea, and all, so I am back to my daily 4-can habit.

Any other helpful hints out there? Or particular frozen low-cal meals that don't make you wretch?

Later,
papa

Here are some simple ideas that really cut calories.

#1) Brown instead of white. (wheat pasta, brown rice, wheat bread...)

#2) 40% protein/40% carbs/20% fat. Eat some sort of protein with every meal. Lots of time I will go to a buffett to pig out on pizza, but I make sure to eat a piece of chicken first.

#3) Pre-make your meals. On Sunday night, make a bunch of chicken breasts, some brown rice, and some pasta. Put it all in the freezer, and you will have a homemade Healthy Choice meal.

#4) Eat fruit, don't drink juice. Most of the vitamins are gone when they make juice. All that is left is sugar. The raw fruit contains all of the good stuff.

#5) Eat often. The more often you eat, the faster your metabolism gets. 5 meals a day is a good goal.

#6) Lift weights! More muscle = Faster metabolism. I can't stress this one enough.

#7) Do your cardio on an empty stomach (first thing in the morning). Also, do it with more resistance, and a slower pace. Walking up hill for one mile burns more calories than running a mile on flat land. Keep your heart rate between 100 - 130 (depending on age). Do you cardio for atleast 25 minutes, but no more than an hour.

#8) (MOST IMPORTANT) Reward yourself. Can you say Cheat Day!! Every week, choose one day as your cheat day. You can eat as much of whatever you want. Don't workout either. Nothing kills a diet or exercise routine faster than burnout. You've worked hard, now reward yourself.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a lot of work for an old guy like me. I also am not going to make the Cave Run Outing but will try to keep up with you guys. Stepped on the scale at work today at 257. Hope to drop 25 by the opener. Will weigh in on Thursdays with the rest of you folks. Someone should keep track of the groups overall fat droppage. Great idea Jason, may help to get some of us lazy guys off our a$$ and drop a few pounds.

I've got the treadmill in the basement...somewhere behind the cob webs. Skate with my daughter once a week.
Doin' Power Bars in the morning....loaded with vitamins...and skippin' lunch.
Drink lots of water and an occasional Gatorade.
And metamucil every day so I never have to have "Live Butt-cam" again 'til I'm 50.....damn, that's only three years.
Met Mrs Beav in a gym 13 years ago. She was doing bodybuilding competitions back then. We were in the gym 7 days a week, sometimes twice a day. Back then I hovered right around 200# but I haven't been to the gym since my daughter was born. Not enough hours in the day. So I'll just have to walk and skate and try to eat smarter.
Always seem to drop to 220 during the bow season, but gain all of that back as soon as the holidays roll around.
Wish I could remember what my navel looks like[:(]

Ahhhh, what the heck. I'm in too.

I don't need to lose quite as much as some of you "more experienced" musky fishermen but I'll join the fun.

184.5 this morning. Shooting for the area of 170.
