Posts: 531 | Not sure how many of you pick up this once a year magazine, I enjoy getting it because it seems to have a little different scope of coverage in reguards to the articles that I am use to seeing in MH. Its a welcome change IMO. They put out a nice "Top 10" desitination map for musky and one for pike. I know these places are not secret but it is nice to see what is around. Being that its very close to where I live I am happy to see Chautauqua Lake made the list, I personally believe that is a very underrated musky lake. So I was glad to see Chautauqua make the list. Anyone else that seen the issue have a lake they feel is left out or was happy to a lake they love get put in print?

Ok you got me, I stand corrected and my appoligies to anyone who was looking to discuss another MH articlel or work by Larry Ramsel. I can see how the title would be misleading. Nice lake - even I've caught something there - but I can name about 6 places in Ontario w/o thinking. Makes me wonder where Cave fits when you start to consider places here in the states. Let's see the list! Edited by cincinnati 5/15/2013 3:24 PM

Come on guys! This is all about revenue, or the lack of. The In Fisherman is a business and magazine sales are down. Tourism is these areas pays them money for this. Just like the PMTT. It has nothing to do with "top ten". It's bull#*#*!

Tourism is these areas pays them money for this. Just like the PMTT. It has nothing to do with "top ten". It's bull#*#*! I can say that this statement is 100% false. I know personally some of the people who were intereviewed. This was not the work of local tourism, it was from the staff at in fishermen doing reasearch and contacting local guides from the area. Like said earlier this is subjective, it never said top 10 for big fish, or top 10 for WR, it could be top 10 for family destinations, who knows. Is LOTW the best musky fishing? maybe for some but somone else may like cave run more. I couldnt see a list being very good if it had 10 lake all with in 300 miles of each other.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | While I normally purchase this issue, I thought this years' was a bit high on advertisement, and low on material. Again, the content that was there seemed great, but for $6.00, it was a 'no buy' for me this year.

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | I can't wait to take my family to the Detroit River. They can tube while I sip margaritas on the beach! Seriously, no matter what the criteria is, these lakes don't fit together. The only reason some of them are on there is because they're outside the typical range. Are they rated by size of fish? No St. Clair or St. Lawrence or Vermilion or Lac Seul? Action? Mille Lacs and GB don't belong. Family desinations? And the DR is #4? Silly.

Posts: 82 | What's worse, having your favorite lake not named or having your favorite named then hoards of people flocking to your favorite lake? I'm fine with that list because there's only one lake that I occasionally fish on it.

you can tell yourself that, but what you said about the "interviewed local guides" is proof. What are they going to say that the fishing sucks, and that you can't catch a fish over 48 inches? I do agree with you that it is subjective, but in my opinion, it's about revenue. There are so many better areas not on the list, and anyone who fishes seriously for muskies knows that this list is not the least bit accurate. You can tell me with a straight face that you'd fish Kinkaid over the St Lawrence River? I thought so, and end of story.

Posts: 531 | muskymagnet - 5/19/2013 7:01 AM you can tell yourself that, but what you said about the "interviewed local guides" is proof. What are they going to say that the fishing sucks, and that you can't catch a fish over 48 inches?. Are you saying none of these places are able to put out a trophy fish? I have only fished three of the lakes on that list, of those three they all had somthing special to them that makes me want to go fish them again. How many of the lake on the list have you fished? I do agree with you that it is subjective, but in my opinion, it's about revenue. Your opinion and your entitled to it There are so many better areas not on the list, and anyone who fishes seriously for muskies knows that this list is not the least bit accurate. You can tell me with a straight face that you'd fish Kinkaid over the St Lawrence River? I thought so, and end of story. I am serious about musky fishing, I have no issue with the list. Please construct your own list for the whole forum to look over. With how you talk a big game I bet your list will be so flawless EVERYONE will agree no list has ever been so perfect and this topic will never need to be discussed again. Also I would rather cast Kinkaid for a day than troll St. Lawrence all week. I prefer casting nothing wrong with trolling as I do it as well, but my prefered method is casting. So if I were to go on a musky trip between those places, I would go to a place that I could do more casting. So please stop putting words in my mouth, and here is your chance to end this story. Make a list and post it and see if anyone keeping in mind you have to please casters, trollers, big fish people, numbers people, travelers, and home bodies, people with big boats, and people with small boats, expert anglers, and novic anglers. This is your chance please everyone

I don't want to argue, and am happy that you're a caster like me. I'd pull my eye balls out trolling. It is better for my back though. You make some good points, and others I don't agree with, but I think the rest of us are that way too. I'm sure others think I'm full of it, and I'm not all knowing of musky fishing. I've had some great fishing on those bodies of water, and am sure you have on Kinkaid, or the others you like. The think we do have in common, and am sure there's more, is that we're musky fishermen. It takes a special kind of person to do that, particularly the casters. It's time consuming and tedious. However, the rewards are huge. Keep casting brother! MM

Aren't top ten lists and rankings used to promate debate / discussion - seems like mission accomplished. if your a musky fisherman its kind of a yearly must buy.

Posts: 1247 Location: Walker, MN | sworrall - 5/19/2013 10:33 AM Yeah, I'm sure they are not satisfied just selling magazines in the great lakes region. It's much more interesting to see a lake in your region on the list right?Note the geographical distribution. Think that may be relevant?
