| Now that I've met a lot of people in the Fishin world and the business side, I've noticed that a good majority of us fishermen are also musicians. Myself included, I have played in bands since highschool and still continue to play venues across the Midwest. I prefer rock music, everything from the harder edge of the 70's to now. I am a vocalist and play a bit of guitar. How many of you guys fit into this category? Whether you are a rocker, jazz guy, blues man, or even a DJ, let's hear about your musical endeavors. How does this all relate to our passion for the outdoors? Maybe it's in the soul or spirit to do so...

Location: Racine, Wi | I'm a hack guitar player. Love play'n the blues, but have also been known to play some Stephen Lynch and Tenacious D songs at various inappropriate times, and have even been known to play some Snoop Dog on the mandolin. 
Love playing guitar, and wish I would take the time to really excel at it, but I'll take what I can do for now. Played in a band for a bit in my early 20s. Great rythmn guitar player, not good enough to be lead lol.

| I was a rocker back in the day. Played guitar in a few bands in my teens and 20's. Done a bit of singing professionally. Played piano for a number of years. Keep telling myself I should blow the dust off the guitar collection one of these days. |

| Had this great idea a few years ago to buy a guitar, take some lessons and then play like Jimmy Page and sing like Robert Plant. After 3rd lesson wife said I could already play better than I could sing. "Stairway to the toilet!" |

| LOL so Joe Bucher's not the only Musky guy who plays guitar...
Interesting post---Been my experience that most hard core Musky guys are not at all musically inclined---at least don't seem that interested in playing music anyway.
Perhaps others are like me--and kind of closet musicians??
For sure--the writer heard George Lynch (Dokken) in the early 80s in college and the rest they say is history---had a passion for it since---playing everything from 80s metal to Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Bluegrass..
Pretty serious about it--- own about 8 nice guitars, Tele, Strat, Les Paul, couple 80s shredders Dean V, Charvel Super Strat, ----Also an Es 175, Taylor acoustic, nice custom built classical..
Blessed with some natural talent--and a real hard worker--and a love for music--real good ear. Have been able to play with some real professionals over the years who liked my playing a lot.
Now as a Pastor have the freedom to play anytime I want live in church--but for a different purpose --to glorify God!
-In church back up vocalists, vocal solos, play a little solo stuff just to keep it interesting--and always play some lead during vocals just to keep it fresh. Funny can't sing a lick---God knew I needed to stay humble---LOL
Funny the only time I ever play guitar for people now is in church---no one I fish with even knows I play guitar LOL....Or could care less.
Having said all that---I tell everyone who gushes over my playing---I am the worst guitar player in the world for the amount of time and energy---ie..practice I have put into it over the years LOL |

| Joe Bucher might be one of the more notable musky guys who plays, but far from the only one. Off the top of my head I could probably name a dozen. I know a bunch of my buds who fish also play in bands or DJ at nightclubs. I guess a few names that are more popular are Brian Schram, Dennis Radtloff, Corey Allen, Pete Stoltman, and of course the Musky Bros. just to name a few. Some of the bigger rock names that I've played with along the way are into the sport of fishing as well. Some defininate correlation there. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Played bass in a number of bands in my younger years around the Madison and Milwaukee areas. Picked up the bass in 5th grade and cut my teeth on Judas Priest, sabbath, van Halen, the clash, iron maiden (Steve Harris rules), Metallica, megadeath, etc..hair down to my butt!!!! .played in some metal type bands, 80s retro band, and alternative cover band (back when nobody knew who soundgarden was). I currently have a Gibson mark IV and a fender jazz 5-string (american made) and enjoy playing with my nine yo son who is working on "down on the corner". Ha, ha we should have a musky open jam at the wausau show next year at someone's farm! |

Location: WI | In 9th grade I played Tuba in a polka band. We hit all the big venues; the county hospital, a couple nursing homes, the local senior center. Sure, Tuba isn't one of the "cool" instruments, but I got an "A" in band all way through high school. Tried playing guitar & bass, but that takes some musical talent. |

| I like to play blues guitar and classical guitar. Used to have GAS. Now it has shifted. Muskie gear is way cheaper than nice guitars, pedals and amps! |

Location: WI | Guitar. Played in a hardcore band for a short bit in the late 90's. Like lots of styles, mostly heavy stuff! Have 2 guitars, an ESP Viper (custom shop), and an Ovation acoustic. Like the other guys say, I should be WAY better than I am for how long I've played. It's a great winter hobby. |

I sang in a band in high school. Had a demo and played some shows. Was fun! Played covers from Korn, deftones, Limp Bizkit, Orgy, ect... As well as a few originals. Funny to think about since I mostly listen to country now.

Location: Sycamore, IL | I've played in bands since I was in jr. high. Sang, played bass, drums and guitar. Mostly punk and noise, indie type stuff...always wanted to start a band like SWANS, but could never find the right group to pull it off. Quit my last band about 10 years ago went back to college, sold all of my gear, except an old Ovation Acoustic guitar, and bought a boat. I miss it sometimes. Still write songs and play stuff around the house for my dog. Just like fishing and getting outdoors, music is an integral part of who I am. |

| Don't forget about Larry Dahlberg-----had a great musical discussion on the dock at Nielsen's last summer over a cup-o-Joe. I am part of the "brotherhood" as well-----classically trained pianist since the age of 5------got into my first metal band at 17---opened for some national "glam metal" bands in the late 80's early 90's and NOW-------just jam to keep my sanity-------which is difficult with all the time I spend chasing muskies. Location: Wakefield, MI | I play a bit in the bars locally on the weekends, mostly guitar, sometimes bass. Prefer classic rock and older country. One of my buddies is talking about starting a metal band, trying to get me to put together a good bass rig for it.
Also play guitar in church once a month.
And I'm a terrible singer. |

Location: Almond, WI | Not strictly a muskie guy, though he does indulge from time to time, but Babe Winkleman has a degree in music and planned on being a professional musician until he fell into the whole tv fishing host thing...yeah how much that must suck! Some guys I know ran into him fishing for pike in Manitoba and had a serious jam session at the lodge.

You may be right Bruce. Or maybe I'll do both while doing the Pewaukee Mile this summer. If you see a tall skinny dude trolling along while playing guitar, stop by and make a request (ie, pleeease stop singing!!) lol

Location: Muskegon Michigan | I have played Guitar for over 40 years. I started when I was 13 with a hollow body Greco guitar through an old Fender bassman 50 amp. I played professionally for 23 years in clubs all over the midwest including Wisconsin and Minnesota. Anyone remember a bar called the the JunkYard in Hibbing ? 1979. Played Blues, heavy metal, Punk and hard rock Guitar. Today I still write and play some but dont play Bars anymore. I own Amercain made Kramer and Peavy Wolfgang Guitars. I still own a nice 100 watt half stack trans tube amp with 4 12 inch Sheffields. I also own a small home studio with 24 track digital recording deck. My wife is a 13 year trained classical piano and now synthesizer player. We write songs every friday night with one of my old band mates. Being in my 50's now I dont care for stage anymore. It was fun but the stress was pretty high. We opened for Kansas, Poison, Mitch Ryder, Bob Segar and even Iggy Pop. The Iggy Pop show was in 1977 at a roller rink in Michigan. What a fiasco. Ive seen some real strange things in the rock and roll world my friends. This is a picture of my son, bass player for Severed Process. That is his new Shector 5 string Bass. He plays through a vintage Ampeg S.V.T. Tube amp with 16 tens. All I can say is holy craops man what a sound. They released their second CD last week. I dont really like thrash metal but they are very talented players. Mike

Kingfisher, that is awesome... I can only imagine 16 tens! wow... I am a bassist or rather bass player also, lol. Have been for 16 years, also play some 6 string as well, but prefer the bass as my main instrument.
I have noticed also, it does seem like a lot of fisherman moonlight as musicians!
