| Message Subject: 2003 Challunge On The Chain Tournament Series | |||
| |||
| The Fox River Valley Chapter of Muskies, Inc is proud to announce the 7th Annual Challunge On The Chain Tournament Series. This year we will introduce a second tournament in the Fall. If anglers elect to fish both tournaments as a series and fish with the same partner in both tournaments, they will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus prize for highest cumulative points. Where: Fox Chain O’ Lakes. Tournament Headquarters will be McDermitt’s Resort When: Spring Challunge - Saturday April 26th , 2003 Fall Challunge - Saturday October 25th, 2003 Doyle Distributing will provide a few beers and the Chapter will provide a great dinner followed by a tackle raffle immediately after fishing. We will also give away a trip for two for a week on Lake Of The Woods at both tournaments. Further details including an entry form are available on the chapter website at: www.frvmuskie.com Thanks to all those who participated last year and helped us reach our goal with a full field of boats. | Hey guy's this is a top notch tourny run by a great bunch of people. I will be there for both | |||

| Mr.Chinewalker (AKA Lunchbox) count me in | |||
| |||
| Who are you fishing with Mr. Fever? Slamr | |||
| |||
| Luke Any rule changes for this year? | |||
| |||
| Slamr, Haven't given it much thought yet, what are you up to!!! | |||
| |||
| Backlash: Changes....yep a few. The most significant is that we added the Fall tournament and the $1,000 bonus prize to highest cumulative points in both tournaments. You must fish with the same partner in both tournaments to be eligible for the bonus money. We also increased the payout at the lower places so you can make a little money even if you come in 10th place. The last thing I can think of that is noteworthy is the implementation of a lottery for starting positions. If your entry is in prior to March 1 for Spring and September 1 for Fall you will be put in a lottery for boat positions giving everyone a fair shot at the coveted pole position. I think that covers the major changes. Let me know if you have any more questions. | |||
| |||
| Any change as to the number of lines one can use? Also, with the potential with increased prizes, the honor system/get a friend to sign a release form method of verifying fish might need to be addressed. | |||
| |||
| Musky99; No change in rules as to number of lines, unless the DNR has changed their rules. Our policy has been to use the DNR rules for our tournament. As we have done in previous years, we will use the witness system again this year for fish verification. | |||
| |||
| I forgot to mention, if you are wanting to put your entry fee on a credit card to "hide it" from anyone special in your life, we will have a credit card machine available for a very short time. It will be available at our booth at the Muskie show and at the meeting Wednesday night 8th January where Tony Grant will be our guest speaker. | |||
| |||
| Slamr and I are ready to rock & roll, we will be fishing in both tournies and look forward to cashing in on the $1000 bonus money!!!!!!!!![:p] | |||

| Great tourney last year.The start up at the begining was crazy.Maybe they should have waves when you start or BIG stickers for the motors, people trying to find out where they start and going in circles trying to find who they follow. Then a massive log jam by the dock at the start was bad.Good tourney one of the worst start up programs ever.0723 | |||
| |||
| Ralph you need a partner I live in Midlothian,if you do not fish with slammr.0723 Bill Ramsey | |||
| |||
| Bill: There was a boat parked along the starting dock that shouldn't have been there which dissrupted the flow of traffic to the starters. In previous years the tournament had been run that way (without the parked boat) and we didn't hear any negative feedback. We run the boats single file past the dock because its the only way we can efficiently check live wells prior to fishing. We have tried to check live wells much earlier but you can't be sure if you have checked them all considering many launch at alternate locations. We will be sure this year that no boats are parked along that starting dock again. Also, the congestion related to people trying to figure out where they should position themselves in the queue will be reduced this year as there will be 15 less boats in the field. | |||
| |||
| It seemed to me and other anglers on the water trying to find who follows who was biggest problem .15 boat reduction will not solve problem.Make some stickes or buy some, so people can see who they follow holding a number out is not the way to do it.Just trying to give you an idea how it was out there like a maze.The reason for the log jam is because no one knew who they followed so they just parked by the dock looking which number came through.happy holidays 0723 | |||

| If I fish it again this year.....Can you promise me it wont rain cats and dogs!..[:bigsmile:] Last year was a blast, fishing with Jenkins. Too bad I stuck a 41" prefishing and lost all our luck for the next day. Kinda caught it in the wrong spot and messed up our whole game plan. If we would have stuck with the orginal game plan we would have been fishing where 5 fish were caught..... Thats was makes tourneys a thinking game....always better to stick with plan A and ride with it. | |||
| |||
| Jason: I cannot promise it will not rain in April...lol. After freezing our keesters off last year you can be sure that won't happen again! This year we have a furnace style heating system reserved for the tent. Be sure it will be toasty warm under the big top for cocktails, dinner and prizes. ps. After seeing the pictures of Robby Kolar and Bill Hinze's fish from last year you can be sure your plan A is going to be shared by a couple dozen other anglers. [:)] | |||
| |||
| Good old Plan A, last year we followed our plan to the letter. We caught no fish, but we did notice two other competitors catch fish on the first spot we vacated and then the second spot we vacated. The FRV tourney is a great tourney and well run. Last year was the only year that I have seen a log jam at the starting gate. Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little better this coming year. I believe Joe (Luke Chinewalker) is the FRV weather Director, he will do better this year. Hey Joe, want to divulge whose boat that was mucking up the process? | |||
| |||
| I believe some knucklehead who was the starter put his boat there.......oh yeah that was the WITCHDOCTOR. Maybe that was his way of putting a VooDoo curse on people because he had to start last? | |||
| |||
| Bill, As President of the Fox River Valley Chapter, I apologize for the cluster muck we created at the tournament when one of our own Board of Directors parked his boat right in the middle of the piers that we were using to stage/release the tournament participants! It was a terrible situation that nearly destroyed our ability for a smooth deployment of boats! This year we will have personell policing the piers so that NO ONE will be allowed to loiter near the piers 30 minutes prior to start time. This will assure us that this area will remain wide open for boat departures. This year all tournament participants will not only get a "boat board" which has their designated starting position printed on it, but we will also have boat stickers for all boats entered in the tournament. The stickers will be placed on each side of the outboard and will allow tournament anglers to stage up in numerical order regardless of whether or not the boat in front of you is holding his boat number up for all to see. This will hopefully eliminate most of the departure/staging headaches that may occur. As a PMTT participant, I know how difficult it can be bobbing around the bay waiting to get in line. There is NOTHING easy about getting 100+ anglers off safe & sound. It takes lots of patience by all the anglers who participate it this event. We want everyone to enjoy themselves at this tournament and make the boat release procedures as painless as possible. We are also limiting the field to 110 boats in 2003 which should help. I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the Challunge on the Chain events over the years and hope that all of you return once again for this years Spring & Fall tournaments. It is this kind of feedback; from the anglers who participate, that help us to "fine tune" this tournament each year. We strive to make it better and better for all anglers as the years progress. I hope to see you out there come April. Stop by and see me at the Fox River Valley booth at the Chicago Musky Show. We will have tournament entry forms available at our booth! Sincerely, [:bigsmile:] | |||
| |||
| Thank You Rich.That should help a great tournament tremendously.Merry New Year Bill Ramsey | |||
| |||
| Bill, Would be glad to fish with you if Slamr can't make it. I will keep in touch! There is only one problem though........I don't know if I want to be sitting in a boat with you at the dock before start up[:0] LOOK OUT........RUNAWAY BOAT!!!!!!!!![:bigsmile:] | |||
| |||
| Come on Rich, just sound a horn and let us go!!! This is the Chain. We're use to getting swamped. | |||
| |||
| Participants of the 2002 FRV Challunge on the Chain, It is with deep regret and embarassment that I denied you, the participants of the 2002 FRV Challunge on the Chain Tournament, with a smooth and orderly start at the beginning of the event. Please accept my most sincere apologies. I failed you, all of you. I voluntereed for the postion as starter for the event as none of my fellow board members stepped up to do so at the time. I volunteered selflessly for you and for my MI Club. No one wanted the job. So I took up the charge and gave of myself. I volunterred without any knowledge of being a starter nor how to be a proficient one at that. I received no direction from previous starters nor from the tournament commitee. I was left to my own judgement on how to start the event. I admit with much chagrin that my execution was, in the least, a bit unorthodox and a little hurried. But gentlemen you must understand I felt like a god on the end of that pier. I was solely responsible for each and every position and their subsequent start in numerical order. I was overwhelmed with my lust for power. I faultered. Had I known that the postion of my boat would hinder the flow of traffic, I would not have committed such a carefree transgression. There were too many boats that day to control, too many. They were moving too fast and the net with the number in it was very heavy. I lost contol, I was powerless. My fishing partner for the day Joe T. tried to help me, nay, save me from myself. Don't drag him down with me. It was not his fault but mine alone. My shortcommings as the starter tarnished the image of this great event. I can assure you that I will not be the starter of the 2003 event. I have resigned my post on the FRV board and will now watch on the sidelines, lamenting the opportunity I had to shine, to do something great and yet, like Icirus, who flew too close to the sun, I too fell to my demise. Respectfully Yours, Christopher J. Drury PS - Thanks for throwing me under the bus Monkey Boy. You'll get yours too Spanky. | |||

| Ralph I hope Slamr declines also I do not want drive out there again!I am glad they got the start up fixed.After I got hit I got over it fast but finding who I follow was more stressful than geting hit.I think Slamr is in he needs to do tourneys anyways, maybe we will do webster sometime.Bill Ramsey | |||

| Bill, Thanks for your understanding. Chris | |||
