Posts: 192 | I live in Indiana and my closest viable option for Muskies is Lake Kinkaid in Illinois which is 125 miles one way. Last year I got in a total of 23 days on the water. When I go fishing, my biggest expense is tow vehicle gas, about 1 tank in my GMC Yukon for a trip to and from the lake. Edited by LarryO 2/10/2013 1:38 PM

Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I drive 303 miles door to door from house to cabin. Northern suburbs of chicago to Rhinelander. We go about every other weekend. I'm lucky enough to have a job that affords us this luxury. As well as a wife and kids who love it up there. Make the money in chi-town and spend it in the north woods. I'd love to live up there but there's no market for what I do. I've been on the fox chain once and don't plan to go back, and fish in Madison a few times before the northern opener. Couple local lakes in spring as well.

Posts: 192 | It is always a little funny when I read a Muskie fishing article or watch a video and they talk about picking out a clear lake or a stained lake for the day or switching mid-day if the bite is poor. Those of us that don't live in the Northland just don't have all of those options. For me if they aren't biting on Lake Kinkaid, I fish Lake Kinkaid.

Posts: 181 Location: St.John, Indiana | Early season is split between Kinkaid 312 mi. and N.E. Ind. 125 mi. Almost every weekend until June. Then time split between Wi, Mn and LSC which is any where from 275-600 mi during the summer ,Try for every other weekend with a trip to LOTW thrown in. Spend allot of time driving but love to fish !!

Posts: 2325 Location: Chisholm, MN | I could drive a mile or two for the closest destination, but I typically go to other lakes that are 25-35 miles away. I consider myself lucky, even though they aren't the best lakes in the world. Vermilion is only 1.5 hours, so I do that quite a bit too.

Posts: 44 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I have a 5 mile drive to Pewaukee lake, and 280 miles to visit/fish with relatives and friends in Vilas county. Probably sounds crazy, but I prefer the long trips to Vilas over Pewaukee/Okauchee.
