Looking to keep my rubber baits separate from the rest. Any boxes made with this in mind? I've searched but came up with nothing other than building my own.

If you dont need them hanging I have been using plano 3730 boxes which have the dividers for reg. and mag. dogs and the 3731 (no dividers) for pounders. Works well.

I'm looking also.. A few friends and my own lakewoods started reacting to the rubber in the newest dawgs last year.. I found a thread that had this pic posted in it, while I was looking around yesterday..

If the Justencase boxes don't react with this and last years Bulldawgs?? I think I'm going to order this box or something very similar.. (Maybe in the Smoke color I heard might be available??)

The thread states the box was $180 at the time witch would be a fair cost to me.

Good luck.. Looking forward to the other replies..

Planos are great if you have a locked garage for your boat..
I however am sick of carrying a stack of planos to and from my boat everytime I go out instead of 1 larger box with a handle...

I always try to avoid hanging rubber for long periods of time. This may sound silly but its true...certain baits will lose a lot of action in the tail after hanging for a long time. The tail will stretch and lose some of its curl. I know guys who have caught way more fish than I that won't buy a dawg if its hanging on a rack. I use Flambeau 9007's and can fit 8 of them in my Ranger's lockable deck extension. I didn't have as much storage in my old Alumacraft so I bought a tote from Walmart for $8 and used that to carry about 6 9007's. Worked prety good.

FYI-Lakewood makes a box that holds the plano boxes only...looks pretty nice... and you would be able to carry it back and forth from the boat pretty easily.

As my rubber bait collection gets larger, those are the size boxes I need.

Question: Have any of of you had your dawgs or other rubber baits fade into another, color wise?? Example: I have a Softail Phantom that now has a pink tail instead of clear....because it was in contact with an orange Dawg for a few weeks.
Will Dawgs fade color into each other if left touching for awhile??

Yeah I know wierd question...but what can I say?

Mark-

Most rubber baits will bleed colors. They will also fade if left in the sun for long periods of time. It is best to keep similiar colors of the same brand together. For example store your walleye and sucker together...cisco and white...black with other dark colors..hot colors..you get the point. I also have some heavy duty plastic bags I will put some baits in so it doesn't matter what I put them with.

Any trouble soft plastics "reacting" to the vinyl downspout material?

Nope, no troubles yet and I have had them in the spouts for over a year now. No sticking, melting or bleeding.

I learned a lot about Just Encase boxes over the weekend. I would go with one of those for sure. The matriel he uses to build those blocks out all the uv rays from the sun, so you wont have to worry as much with lures bleeding or fading. Also the soft plastics wont ruin the matriel on the inserts.

The Just Encase boxes rock. I have a front deck box, a pedestal box, and a portable custom built by Bob at Just Encase. I stil have my original prototype he built for me when he was firing up the business, and it's in great shape despite some pretty heavy abuse.

Good product, great people.

Do you have any issues with the fins getting bent when they're laying down? I prefer to get mine out of the pack and hang them as soon as possible so the fins aren't bent back. I'm not sure if it's even an issue, but it bothers me. What's your take on the matter?

Just Encase is awesome for hanging, but you will need a large box for a sizeable collection of Rubber. I prefer to use the Plano plastic cases. I can’t recall the number, but it is the larger plastic box without dividers. It will store 7 Pounders without issue. Funny thing about Rubber, you actually want it in the box pretty snug. That prevents the big hooks from doing damage. I’ve had color bleed issues, but nothing serious. Just don’t put the white pounder next to the firetiger. I put my smaller rubber in the 3700 series of boxes. Shadzilla type baits I hang. (they are not as bulky)

The really nice thing about 3700s is they are also great for Bucktails. I use my lockable rod locker and can store the giant pounder box plus 3-4 3700s. This lets me have the full herd of Cowgirls and Super Models, plus a large collection of rubber baits in the boat without much of a hassle all season long. I then use a smaller box to bring select baits depending on the stage of the season/ and any specific bite I might be on. This results in far less clutter in my 17.5’ boat.

LOL! I do now. I used to keep them in the bed with me but got tired of waking up in the morning full of cuts and scrapes.

I luv 'dawgs.

With baits like dawgs or medussas...the fins really don't affect the swim that much...more there to keep the bait from rolling and give it a little more hang on the drop. I don't think you have to worry too much about them getting bent...but if you're missing entire fins off one side of the bait you may have problems. The harness of the bait is what ultimately controls the action. I just try not to pack them too tight...never had problems. The only rubber baits I prefer to hang (or make sure I lie perfectly flat) are boot-tail swim baits like huddlestons, reaction strikes, and castaics. I have had a few of the tails get bent and cause them to swim poorly.

Still have a lot of work to do on this multi-lid box, but when its finished, the Dawgs will have a side all to themselves

saw the Plano 3700s today at Menards for 6.48 a box... at times they offer 20 or 25% off anything you can fit in a paper bag, good way to get a bunch of Planos... most other places i've seen them going for 8 or 9 bux each
