| Hello all. Anybody ever fish out of Witch Bay Resort on LOTW? Any other resort/cabin recommendations in that area of the Lake? Also trying to decide if I should tow my old Ranger 680c the 1400 mile round trip or just use one of the camp boats. I am planning a trip for mid-September. This will be my first trip to Canada after primarily fishing Illinois and northern Wisconsin waters. Thanks, guys and Happy New Year.

Location: Smith Creek | Nice resort, isn't the best muskie fishing on the lake but you'll probably catch a fish or 3. We pulled a boat in, the driveway is bad but not THAT bad. Walleye fishing was stupid easy. |

| It’s a great place and I would respectfully disagree with the above post about the musky fishing not being that great. Last time i was there I saw about 30 fish and put 10 in the bag fishing solo for 6 days. It’s as good as any fishing on LOTW... the walleye and smallie fishing is also sick…
The staff are very accommodating and the food is good not great. There guides are top notch and will openly share info with you even if you are not using them. Part of their pitch is they will have one of them mark up a map for you so you are in tune with the hazards and any un-marked bogeys out there..
The road in blows goats...no two ways about it but if you approach it with the right mind set its not that bad... Its 45-60 minutes of going 5-7 MPH... The road has some positives...The road offers great security there. With the resorts location at the end of Witch Bay you can leave your electronics and gear etc...in your boat and not worry about anyone taking it....
Lots of great places on LOTW from Sabsong to Kenora and Witch Bay is definitely one of them…

| I've stayed at Witch Bay and definitely enjoyed it. Agree with the post above that the road into the resort is a long, slow and very bumpy journey. But I wouldn't let that deter you.
I've spent a good deal of time in a number of the different LOTW regions. There is definitely good muskie fishing in this region, but they aren't as plentiful as in some of the other meso portions of LOTW, e.g., NW Angle. Walleye, smallmouth and pike fishing are all fantastic. If you are looking for a big numbers week for muskies, staying at Witch Bay wouldn't be your best choice. But you can certainly encounter some good muskie fishing. As with most of the lake, you'll have trophy opportunities for all species. |

| Thanks guys. This is helpful. Are there any resorts you would recommend further up in the NW angle that might offer more numbers? There will be a few relatively novice fishermen with us when it comes to musky and it would be great to put them on a better chance at a fish or two. Thanks again. |

| I'd head to Sabaskong Bay. Red Wing Lodge always has a spreadsheet on their site of lots of numbers and big ones too. Very nice place to stay at too. Do a search on it. |

| For the NW Angle, you couldn't go wrong with either Angle Outpost or Baystore Camp. For Sabaskong, take a look at Mylie's Place. |

| NW Angle gets hammered. I forgot about Mylie's place as well. Do a search under fish reports and you'll find a whole season of fish reports from Mylie's Place. |

Location: Minnesota | I would also recommend Sabaskong bay. But I would take a look at Split rock Lodge, I didn't have to travel over a mile the whole trip and came in contact with over 10 fish and I only fished for them for under 4 days. I saw 3 or 4 close to 50 inches. The resort owners are really nice and they will set you up well for fishing. just type in split rock lodge on lake of the woods in google and youll find it. |

| Check out ASH RAPIDS! Trophys of all species and alot less pressure than the rest of the lake.We see boats from Totem Lodge and Witch Bay every year.They drive a long way by boat to fish by us!That should tell you something about the quality of fishing around ASH! GL |

Location: Madison | Have stayed at sandy's blackhawk, monument bay (RIP) and frolanders. The location, food, and camp hosts at frolanders is the best combo of the places I've stayed. Their camp boats aren't great, I'd bring my own if you stay there. |

I would take Eagle in that scenario...your going to be dealing with a lot of Pike and walleye more then Musky unless you get pretty lucky |

Location: Omaha, Nebraska | I would recommend Sabaskong Bay LOTW and I prefer Split Rock Lodge. It is a great resort with awesome owners. And you don't have to go far to catch muskies, pike, walleyes, and smallmouth! The rates are very reasonable and the location is perfect. www.splitrocklodge.net

| there are TONS of muskies in the NW Angle and the "pressure" doesn't matter. one day in june fishing two guys out of one boat we hit 25+ spots and in each spot in a row one after the other moved or caught a fish on every single one of them everywhere from bishop bay all the way to the mouth of the tug channel 
flag island resort is great and so is the bay store camp. the bay store camp has a bait shop full of muskie lures and frank is an excellent fisherman and all around nice guy. both are very close to the call in station to fish canada. |

| Turtle Bay Resort has great rental boats. Wiley Point Lodge is great as well and has decent rentals. Ash Rapids Camp is also excellent... I'm not sure what rental boats they have going right now though. All of them will pick you up and drop you off if needed. |

| What you should take home from all of these posts is everyone has an opinion... OK, that's obvious, but in all seriousness what you should take away is that there IS NO WRONG PLACE TO BE ON LAKE OF THE WOODS! I would venture to guess that only a few of those people posting here have fished more than one section (i.e., Sab Bay, NW Angle, The Narrows, etc.) of Lake of the Woods, so determining where to fish based on someone's recommendation in this thread is perhaps not the best option (biased opinions). I have only fished one section, which is why I'm not suggesting anything in particular.
My advice is to narrow your search based on the amenities you want and your budget. From speaking with friends and checking lodge sites, staying in the NW Angle may cost you more. Many places charge per person, while others charge one rate for the entire cabin per week. |

Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | My Wife and I went to Sandy's first time on LOW's back in 1961 we booked in for 10 day's went in on Friday and left 10 day's later on Monday worked out great for us. we did that for 5 years straight. Bill Sandy was in grade school then. WE got to know the northwest side real well.after that we started fishing other water's . I have fished LOW'S from all most every location on the lake except Kenore. Having said all that My advice is to check out all the resorts you can and book one that sounds good and is in your price range and just go there . Get a guide for at least one day or two. and just enjoy the lake. the entire lake has good fishing. GOOD FISHING TO YOU MARV. |

| LOTW has many great lodges, some more expensive, some with better ownership then others (This is what I look for, I'd rather have an honest, down to earth owner looking out for his guests then someone looking for their money only). Overall no matter what lodge you stay at you are put on top of nice fish as soon as you pull out of the dock on the lake. With that being said and based on my own experiences (as well as other close friends I know) I would avoid Red Wing lodge. I wuold rather not post why but would be happy to share my experience/s if you want to private message me. |
