I admit I like to stick to my standby lures, and don't stray too far from what I know works, but each year I try to gain at least 2 or 3 new baits in my arsenal that I can catch fish on. It is fun to catch fish on new baits, and great to have another tool at my disposal when prime time arrives to go back to that hawg.

For me this year the Jerko was one of the lures I gained confidence in. I've never tried one till this last june and on the first outing, cracked 5 legals, and had a very large walleye on it. It became one of my rotation baits the rest of the year. The second was the 6" Bobbie. I've always used his bigger brothers, but never used a 6 before this year, and I'm really glad I started. The third was a tie between the Pacemaker(some really nice fish in July on it) and the jointed Believer. This bait really came through this fall, and I can't wait to get a few more of them. What two or three new lures did you guys gain confidence in.

For '02, new ones for me were the Viper and Pacemaker.

10" inch Jake for me.
Wow!
Stripped one down, painted it up in a killer combo and had great reaction ALL season.

My new confidence lures this year were the bucktail, doc, phantom, and superstalker. I almost always could get something done if I gave those lures enough time.

I'd say the Jakes finally put in a bunch of fish in the boat this year. Had some pretty darn good days with the 10" and 8" models. Believers were also good to me.....Dang I'm starting to sound like Schillinger. [;)] I also had some very good luck with 9" weighted bobbies also. The black and silver bobbie looks like scar face [:0]

catch ya later,
Krappie

Believers went from always in my box, but never used much...to...always on my line in the fall.

Tough season all-around for me, but I gained a lot of insight and
really learned to appreciate the fishing process as much as the thrill of catching a muskie.

My new confidence baits are Squirko, after seeing it well-handled by Jason Smith up at Cass Lake, and a Musky Treat that has a real similar action.

I hadn't used many jerk-style baits before, but did have a solid background in Suick pull-type baits. So it was great to learn the new technique this season.

Also, gives me a long list of new gear to get, a new C5 & short jerk rod, several Squirkos and Jerkos, maybe a few Mantas, and a Cobb's roundnose & glider.

Ho Ho Ho,
Papa Joe

Burnt over the tops, ripped through em, dives to the bottom at the edge, worked like a Suick or low and slow.
I gotta say Bulldawgs, caus the big girls told me so.

I had some really good luck with the Mepps Magnum Bucktail. I caught fish on black and white, chartruese and black, orange and black and silver and white.

Also boated one and had several up and lost one on a straight model 10 inch Believer. Never had much luck on that lure until this year. God bless.

Believer! First year throwing one! After having a 50" class fish blow up on one, I stuck with it through the fall! But I'll never leave my bucktails!

My #1 confidence bait is the zalt hands down. What a cool bait. The Tr Twitcher is a close second, followed by the wyde glide and a magic maker worked really fast.

For trolling the depth radier shined as did the grandma deep diver.

Other good lures were mann's magnums, slammer deep divers, javelins, mirror lures, salmo fatso, amma bamma, widowmaker lures, bulldawgs and bucktails.

The bait I continue to have the most confidence in is the Topraider. I caught fish this year on them until the water temps hit the upper 40's in the fall. I really like the Pacemaker too, caught a couple and had a lot of blow-ups. I still have confidence in my Manta's as well, caught a few and moved a lot as well. It is probably my best search bait in the box. I have gained a great deal of respect for the Undertakers too, great bait and plan to really utilize it next season. 10" Jakes are always good to me and caught the last 4 fish of the year for me.

Finally tried the Bulldawg. Don't know what I was waiting for. Oh yeah, it only lasted for 3 fish before it was scrap.

8" jointed Believer, perch.

My new favorite lure would have to be a Phantom, although I caught my biggest fish of the year on a Voodoo Tail Bucktail. So maybe it's the Voodoo Tail![;)]

I had no confidence in any bait this year in my boat, until August![:0]

Undertaker moved alot of fish for me, and I will continue to use it. But, I went back to my best bait of the previous years, and did well this fall. The Reef Hawg. Don't know why I didn't use it til October. Perhaps I was too lazy to put the rear hook back on after it got removed last fall on a big fish!

For trolling, the .50 Cal 8" jointed Believer became a must use bait. Thanks, Jason Smith![;)]

It`s ready to get finished,it will be awesome and not another one like it EXCEPT MINE! Let me know? Walleyes tonight? Handy

For me I would say that ERC had a big impact on my lure selection this summer. It started out just tossing the baits to see how they worked, but after I started having action on both the Triple D and the RnG they become confidence lures for me as well as test projects. The other new bait that really stood out for me was the Super Top Raider. It moved lots of fish, when other surface baits just weren't working, from June through September.

I also have to give the Magnum Musky killer a mention, as for some reason this was the only bucktail that consitantly moved fish for us all year.

I just wish patterns held from year to year, but for some reason they don't. Hey good topic for a new thread.

Nail A Pig!

I would have to say that Grandma crankbaits really came thru for me this year. More specifically this fall when the other new presentation (to me) came shining thru, trolling. I also caught some fish on spinnerbaits which I now see as a grossly under used presentation in my boat. I almost forgot about the bulldog. I love that bait.......he is black and green and his name is Bob.

This year the Jerko earned a very high spot in my arsenal. That bait really moves fish. I also gave in and started throwing dawgs a lot more only because they were moving fish.

Hmm, Muskie patterns change.....Does that mean the TripleD is already obsolete? [::)] Just kidding, Mike?

I'd say Tuff Shads for me, either in perch or shad.

Some 5" slammers twitched very fast and erratically and also my rubberhairys worked great other than that i didnt get to use alot of other baits.

Hey Eric no kidding you don't try alot of different baits You're the only guy that I've heard that has his fair share of baits, but will stick with the same bait all day. I got to praise you for that.
I forgot to mention your bucktails were also a new confidence bait. I had moved fish on days that typically wouldn't even get a sniff from another type of bucktail. I'm looking forward to picking up a couple Rubberhairy(or is it Rubber Harry. [:0] ) will definitely be tossing that naughty little bait around next year.

catch ya later,
Krappie

Handy,

That three color with yellow or chartreuse belly, and bars would be awesome. Thanks a million for rescuing that bait for me!!!!!! Been working nights(7-7) so its been tough to get out fishing, though I got my biggest ever pike yesterday(so did dad) up north on our day trip(42.25"). Give me a call and we'll head out on our next days off together(what a beast).

The shallow invader in silver perch color but quite a few fish in my boat this year. Most were caught just twitching them erratically over the weeds, however I did pick up two fish trolling them. Only complaint is that the tails get chewed up really easily but other than that the performed great.
