Since Mr. Long has been hyping the Triple D on every site. This is the bait that Jason and his partners at ERC have developed in case you've been living in a hole. Well, the river is open in Grand Rapids and I haven't put away the equipment yet.

Let me say this,

It is gonna change the way we ALL fish.

I'll be in line at Chicago.

The next great pretender or the real deal? This years Manta, Pacemaker, TopRaider? Time will tell, but I know I will buy at least 2.

It's on my list. I am not leaving their booth untill I can get my hands on a ripnglide. I also want a 10" manta.

I apologize for the "hype". It is simply a reflection of my excitement over finally having this project complete and shows how addicted I am to these internet message boards.

The TripleD is simply another tool. It has been prototyped for many years now.... many of which were simply "tinkered" versions of some of the great crankbaits already on the market (Ernies, Bagleys, Slammers, Depthraiders, etc.).

This bait catches fish without a doubt. I just don't want people to generate any false expectations due to the so called "hype". If you one day buy a TripleD.... you will still have a need for all your Depthraiders, Ernies, Slammers, and whatever other crankbaits you may own. The TripleD does not take anything away from the crankbait world... but it will add another option or two. However, this bait is no different than any other lure.... it is only as good as YOU make it.

Jlong,

Just how much flow are these lures gonna cost?

Mike Hulbert

Sorry about not getting back to you last week, I can't e-mail you for some reason from school. I will have to e-mail you from my yahoo accout.

Some people are going to love this lure and others won't. Like Jason said, it is another tool to add to your "tool box" Bottom line is that the lure does seem to trigger fish. See ya in Chicago. God bless.

OK, I'll bite. How much extra money do I have to bring down to Chicago? And how long is the line gonna be?[:p]

Thanks anonymous for keeping things real.

The TripleD certainly does NOT have any special powers, and noone has ever claimed otherwise. Yes, it is "just" another crankbait.... but it has several other attributes that many crankbaits currently can't offer. Does it make it better.... nope. It does, however, make it different. And for those who LOVE crankbaits like I do and are looking for something just a little different... this is it. There will be times when an Ernie, Jake or Believer will out-fish the TripleD... and there will be times the TripleD is the flavor of the day.

The concept of what the TripleD offers is not innovative. Suspending and "walking the dog" is certainly nothing new. Heck, I've been tinkering "other" lures to do it for years. Bass pros have been doing it long before I was even old enough to pick up a fishing pole. However, I do feel the design/construction of the TripleD is very innovative and it has proven its ability to catch fish.

Again... no special powers, just another good quality tool.

Jason is being modest, and a little worried about the people who wont like the bait. It is a “MAGIC LURE”. Charmed by the great Harry Potter himself.

OK maybe not. But I would go as far to say it is new and innovative. It may be an idea that many of us have been doing, but it is the first 8” deep diving crankbait I have used where I didn’t have to break out the drill or the heavy epoxy to get my favorite action. Also the construction is new.

Also, for me, it dances much easier than existing crankbaits. I can make an Ernie, or Slammer, or Depthraider dance, but I can do it much easier with the TripleD. I can also keep the bait deeper while I do it, and it will hang during the pause. And I mean HANG!

If you want to work a crankbait through thick weeds this isn’t the bait for you, as it HANGS and doesn’t back out like a Slammer or DR.

As far as “HYPE” yes there has been a lot of it, but as Jason stated we are very excited about the bait. I don’t own any part of the company, I am just good friends with Jason. I want this bait to succeed, because I want it to be around for a long time. Because, it fits into my style of fishing perfectly. 10 years from now I want to be able to go down to Fleet Farm and pick up a couple TripleDs.

As for buying into the “HYPE” here is my suggesting; if you think the bait sounds like something you would use, buy just one. That way you can try it for yourself and form your own opinion. If it sounds like something you really like, and you spend time fishing deeper breaks and open water, buy a couple different colors so you can use it in any water condition. Most likely as you use it you will find more uses than just the deeper stuff.

I bought into the Manta “hype,” but not big, I ended up with just the one I got at the show. It just wasn’t my style of glide bait. I am more of a Jerko man and missed the belly roll in the Manta. But I still have the Manta and it sees some use every year and will probably get me a fish sooner or later. Some guys loved it and bought the entire color line.

Most likely the same thing will happen with the TripleD; some will love it, some will like it, and some will dislike it. That is the nature of fishing, we all have our own styles.

That is why Jason and myself love it we have been fishing this style lure for years, Jason longer then me, as he turned me on to the style. Well we now have a lure that gives us our favorite crankbait action right out of the box without any tinkering necessary. That’s the real reason for all the excitement.

I agree with Mike. This bait is innovative. Maybe not to the fishing world as a whole, but to the musky fishing world! There have been suspending Bass and Walleye cranks for years now, but I haven't seen Musky suspending cranks yet. Kudos ERC for being the first to come out with this! If there is a suspending crank out there, someone please let me know. This lure will save a lot of "tinkerin" people money. No more drilling a hole in the wrong place, or a mishap modification to get that bait to hang. I know I'll own at least 2 of each color offered of the Triple D![:praise:]

How is the lip attached?....I troll rock reefs some and like to bang bottom.

Jason,
Not to worry. You can pound this bait on the rocks all you want and not need to worry about the integrity of the lip. Some serious engineering has gone into the construction of this bait. The lip is polycarbonate... so it is as strong of a material as you can get and the technology used to "insert" the lip is state of the art (I can't say any more than that about it). If you are worried that it will not be as durable as a two-piece plastic lure (Ernie, Depthraider, etc.) or a glued in Lexan lip like the Slammer.... you have no need to worry.

However, since the bait has very little, if any, positive bouyancy you may not want to troll this bait ON the bottom (grinding) but it will withstand any collision you can toss at it. Just consider that it will not back out of trouble like a high bouyancy lure will if you get hung up while dragging it.

This lure is not a DO EVERYTHING lure. It was designed for specific applications. Once you cast one... you will quickly figure out where it will excel (open water, clean structures, etc.) and where it won't (heavy weeds, snag infested stuff, etc.). For people who want to fish in heavy weeds, stumps, and stuff... we are working on the DoubleD for that application (oops... said too much).

Thanks for your answer. I cant wait to try one. I have some specific spots for the TrippleD. I want to do more susppended cranking on Northern WI waters, its a killer pattern in August.

One small correction on your post...Slammer cranks are tru-wire thru the lip to the last hook and then glued in like you said with a lexon lip.

Have you tried to troll them?

If so speed results would be cool if you have them!

I'm still waiting for an answer. How Much? And how long a line is there going to be?[;)]

Shep,

I am unsure what the exact price will be, thus the delay for providing an answer. How does $17.95 sound?

Jason - Good looking lure...and like everybody else will be anxious to see it "up close and personal." From the previous attached photo it looks terrific. Congratulations....

What??!!!! $17.95!!!!??[:0]

I was expecting to have to take out a second on my house. Oh, wait, I did that to buy the new boat![;)] Guess I won't have to now.[:)]

Looks like a nice bait, one that I already have a couple spots in mind for. Now, if I can get just the right color(s), I'll be all set. Am I gonna have to wait to see the full line up of colors at Chicago?[:p]

See you then! I'll be the first in line. Gonna get there Wednesday night, and camp out![]

J,
is that $17.95 negotiable? If it is I think $9.99 has a much better ring to it. []

I may not be able to make Chicago due to work but I do want one of these baits. How else can one get ahold of a Triple D jlong? New London?

We will have online ordering available after the Chicago Show. I hope to be at New London too. Thanks for the interest.

believe the hype guys. Was out to day with Mad Dawg Hoek and he caught a 41, 44, 46 with in a half an hour. All on the Triple D. Bait looks awesome in the water

With all the "hype" over the TripleD.... ERC's "other" lure has been quietly awaiting its discovery. Not only will TripleD's be available at the Chicago Show... so will Dick Pearson's GRINDER.

The Grinder is a new spinnerbait design developed by Dick Pearson himself. This ain't just another spinnerbait either. If you like fishing in heavy cover (slop) or speed trolling open water.... you may want to take a peek at these. Four different sizes to choose from too:

1/2 oz. Little G
1 oz. and 1 3/4 oz. GRINDER
3 oz. Super G

Just thought I'd divert some of the "hype" to yet another new product for everyone to check out this winter[]

Jason, First of all congrats in establishing a bait and hopefully in the future a line of baits.

I have not been on the computer much so I missed all the "hype" on the bait. I will say the pic that Mike posted shows a good looking bait. It was said before its a tool and thats why we have boxes of baits instead of a shoe box.

I wont be in CHi-town do to another commitment, however look forward to getting infoon the bait later.

Again congrats and good luck

Boy Todd... you sure are persistant.

Don't worry... the RnG will be available someday. I'd like another season to myself yet before releasing it (heh heh heeeeeh). Maybe... just maybe... a prototype or two may find their way into your tacklebox this season for some field testing... but I make NO promises[:halo:] [] [:p]

The production run blanks I have appear to be stable at WELL OVER 4 mph, but note that the finished product will have eyes and probably a different hook and split ring arrangement than what I have used, so I don't know for sure what THEY will do trolling. I am guessing that they will also be stable at well over 4 mph.
