Posts: 25 | Hi, Kinda new to the fall musky game. In the past, the family place was always closed at Labor Day. Things have changed... SO..I am looking to get on the water in the Minocqua area on Saturday and Sunday. The weather looks a little wild. Any thoughts on how that will impact things? Fish can and will be caught after it comes through, but they should get pretty active prior. Tue/Wed/Thur may be the time to take vacation!

Location: Eau Claire,WI | Try live bait close to the bottom.Work deep breaks with Dawgs,Curly Sues, etc.Bondy's and Fuzzy Duzzits should also be tried. Another good spot to try is deeper humps, work the entire stucture, top, sides and ares around them. Slow things down, you might get one or two hits a day but they might put a smile on your face!

Posts: 8782 | I would contemplate not fishing. Fall is my favorite time of year, but sudden big cooldowns seem to shut everything down for DAYS. If I could, I'd fish Wednesday and Thursday, and forget about the weekend.

Posts: 25 | I strongly considered not going up. It is quite the journey (takes me about 7 hours), but I've made it about 10 times since opening day. I've decided to say screw it, I'm going. A day on the water is better than a day in my apartment.

I would say suckers need to be a MUST HAVE for you this weekend. Live Bait could really make your trip! I have had some great days in very brutal conditions all because of the giant sucker minnow!

Posts: 1220 | I'll be fishing in Eagle River this weekend and I am just not going to think about the weather. I will think about it as far as making a choice between lures, presentations, depths whatever stuff that the book says you should do with the onset of a major cold front..but that's where it will stop. If it's cold..it's cold, I'll dress warmly, try to work my body into the casts to create as much warmth as possible. And, I will try as hard as I can to stay focused knowing that the bites will need to be made the most of in a situation where they can be hard to find. Truthfully, I will have a big secret weapon to use this weekend. I plan to show up bright and early at the Tom Gelb booksigning event Friday and ask him what to throw. If there is anybody up there not afraid to fish in the cold...it's him!

Cold? That's not cold. You shouldn't be complaining about cold unless temps are under 32.

Fish your ass off! Only way to go about it. Just slow and low. Good luck. I'm gonna do the same thing, even though its gonna cool from the 70s to the 50s. In Illinois. Not as dramatic but I'm sure it'll still affect it somehow. But there's always someone on the lake that can get em and that can be you.

Posts: 1316 Location: Lebanon,Mo | It's a typical strong cold front...just because the air temp drops significantly doesnt mean the fish know what the air temp drop is. I bet you find active fish and more active fish shallower than you inticipate. Same front will pass down here on Friday/ Saturday and will be on the water to see how fish react.

Posts: 243 | "Cold? That's not cold. You shouldn't be complaining about cold unless temps are under 32." Morning temps for the Championship tourney in Eagle River are projected in the mid 20s on Saturday. It's going to be cold, even by your standards. I've fished quite a few times in freezing temps. Casting is a lot different at that level than trolling or running suckers.

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | A fall cold front is much different than a spring or summer cold front. In the fall I welcome the front coming in that is spoken of here. Usually triggers the fish to bite rather than what most are thinking it will do. I would say you have more to worry about this weeked as far as turnover goes than that of the weather that is coming in.

Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I agree with Travis. I good coldfront in the fall, when its supposed to be cold, could kick the fish into gear. The best time to go fishing is whenever you can. Last weekend I was worried about turnover in Vilas/Oneida, we started on clear lakes and saw none, on Sunday we went to stained water, caught two in an hour. One being 49x25, new pb. Good luck!

Posts: 567 | esoxaddict - 10/2/2012 1:06 PM . Wish everyone thought like this, I would have the entire place to myself. Muskies like cold, fall fronts for us in the past have been some of our most productive days, especially for the supertankers. Go fish.I would contemplate not fishing. Fall is my favorite time of year, but sudden big cooldowns seem to shut everything down for DAYS. If I could, I'd fish Wednesday and Thursday, and forget about the weekend.

Posts: 1141 Location: NorthCentral WI | I'd have to agree with Travis on this one. I'd be more worried about turnover screwing up the fish than this cold front. Although hopefully the front will help speed up that process. I would have low expectations for this weekend. By the following weekend and the new moon period, lakes should have settled down and look for fishing to be HOT. If heading out this weekend, be prepared to do some lake hopping. That's my .02 for what it's worth. Maybe I'm way off... Edited by MartinTD 10/3/2012 12:34 PM
