Posts: 32921 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | 72 were boats were registered to head out on Leech this morning under cloudy skies and moderate winds. The bite should be better today on the 100,000 plus acres of prime Minnesota Muskie water according to the teams we talked to; everyone was looking forward to hitting the water. The teams will be off the water this afternoon by 1 PM, and will 'weigh in' at the Casino beginning at 3 PM. MuskieFIRST Coverage of the PMTT is brought to you by St. Croix Rods ! Posts: 32921 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Vig and Matz lit 'em up today, taking six fish on the short day. The seven fish total set a new PMTT record of 512 points. The win netted the Team with a cehck for $10,000.00. In second were Hildreth and Crail, taking three fish, one of which was a 50. Third was Korpela and Mitchell, also with a double, one of which was over 50. Fourth was Johnson and Franklin with a triple. Anderson and Hoyer rounded out the Top Five. White, black, and chartreuse were the hot colors, Medussa'a, double tens, and topwater rounded out the top presentations, and many of not most of the fish were caught shallow. The sand flat bite was definitely 'on'. Thanks to St. Croix Rods, Lund Boats, and Mercury Marine for sponsoring OutdoorsFIRST Tournament coverage! Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wow. Congrats. I see fish under 40 inches. I supposed MN now has a 48" statewide limit. What was the legal size for this tourney?

Were the winners local guys?

Posts: 1220 | My understanding is that they were a couple of walleye guys from the Twin Cities fishing their very first musky event ever. At least that's what I thought I heard them say on Friday night. Looked like a couple of really nice young kids....obviously figured out something nobody else was even close to. Should get a bunch more newcomers willing to try their luck at these things. Just proves that on any given day..anything can happen! They beat a lot of the really top sticks around (and rest of us schlubs too)! My hat's certainly off to them!

Posts: 123 | So if I understand this, some unknown young sticks just showed up and smeared 'em. Great story and I'd like to hear more. (specifics) problem is, and most would agree, if you had such a great bait/pattern/color/presentation that you are 100% outcatching your closest competition, you don't open your mouth. all the other sticks know their stuff, and will do exactly what you are doing if they find out.

They caught their fish in front of other anglers as well. Several of the top 10 were fishing right by them, but obviously not doing quite as well.

Posts: 223 Location: Downers Grove, IL | "Junkman" had a great post on Musky Hunter site about how these guys shared what they were doing. Good on them for showing up the "pros" who seemed to have a laugh at their expense. Glad these two had the last laugh...

Guys I am Austin Vig one of the winners from the leech lake pmtt event. We have been fishing the pmtt for three years and have had decent finishes in the past events. By no means were we in our first event ever and by no means was this all luck. We spent a lot of time pre fishing for every tourDnament including this one. Also the info about there being 10 other guys around us was false we were by ourselves. Pretty decent spot too:) Just wanted to clarify so there was not more bad mouthing a couple of young kids trying to make a name for themselves..

Posts: 114 Location: Eagle Grove, Iowa | Austin, You and your partner deserved the win whatever anyone else thinks, there is lots of jealousy in muskie fishing . You guys put in the time and found a bunch of fish away from the community spots and had a good game plan and stuck with it. We did the same thing but just could not put that many in the net but am very happy with 2nd place. Congrats on the win guys!! Tracy Crail

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Ok,.... Some of you guys are just posting Stupid Shnit....... Austin and Andrew are from Prior Lake Mn. I have seen these two guys work their Arse's off on the Pmtt for the past three yrs. and I will say they Know How to put fish in the boat ! These two guys have been very consistent in finishing high in a number of events. As for this event ,The top ten were no where near these guys,....Andrew pre-fished for three week ends and came up with a plan that worked out. They ended up boating 7,,...That's 7, Ya,...Seven,..... good sized muskies in the boat during an event against the best Muskie Fishermen on the Lake that day............. Oh,..... (they also hooked and Lost 3-4 more fish) Congrats Boys, and don't pay any attention to some of the Crap these Amateurs spew from their Pie hole. G-Rome
