Finally got some funds to commission a new mold for the 8" "Shad Jr." This is out solid prototype and we hope to have these out for fall trolling but they may not be ready until Jan. 2013 or so.

Middle lure is the new Shad Jr. For ref the bottom lure is our current 5.5" Super Cisco and the top is our 11" Mag Shad. This lure should really fit a nice slot for musky fishing. Can't wait!!

On a side note, most of my colors came from this forum. While I do not plan on having 42 colors for this bait if anyone has a really good color please send it to me. I may just make it one of the 12-14 colors for this lure line. Right now I have a core 6 colors I am going with but always like to add a few extra special colors.

James

Is this bait through wire or does it utilize hook hangers?

As primarily a freshwater Striper and saltwater fisherman this is exactly the size I was hoping for. I've always wished for a size right in between the slightly too small 5.5" and the slightly too big 11". 8" perfectly replicates a lot of the bait like herring and menhaden that stripers and bluefish feed on.

Also for the type of fishing we do 2 hooks would be a better option but we can remove the middle hook and replace the other 2 with 6X heavy duty trebles and split rings ourselves.

The ugly chartreuse that Manns Stretch lures come in is a very popular color for ocean trolling and it would also be great to have a realistic color like the Polish Shads come in although I'm not sure you can replicate it and still maintain the durability your lures are known for. I'll attach pics of the colors I'm talking about.

Will unpainted blanks be available?

They will be through wire. I am not a big fan of hook hangers. Never had one fail but I just like the extra security of through wire. The final lure will be around 3.5oz and should go to about 20' when trolled with 100' line out. My retail on them will be $14.99. I have both Shad and Black Perch in my colors too. Still debating making unpainted blanks but I probably will make a few.

The above holo lures look great! One of those may make it into the final color chart!!

James,

The hook hanger placement looks strange. I would recommend moving the middle hook towards the front more.

Other than that, it looks good.

Looks like the last 2 hooks might hook together. guest may be right about moving middle hook forward some, at least enough to keep the hooks from hooking each other.

The middle hook hanger already has been moved forward about .35" from what you see in the above picture. I also made the lure slightly skinnier than the prototype so the hook points are just outside the body of the lure for better hook-ups. Thanks for the feedback. Can't wait to get a few swimming prototypes out.

Why does the medium have 3 hooks while the small and large have only 2.

The small Super Cisco will always have 2 hooks but they are slightly on the larger size. If I put three on that lure the hooks would constantly foul into each other.

The Mag Shad has 2 right now but I just got done commissioning a new mold that will have three hooks. Great lure and its done very well for some of the big guide outfits but I have had a few customers request an additional hook so I made the new mold for 2013.

I will prep a dive curve once I get them. Should be near the Super Cisco dive curve as seen below.

Still debating on blanks. I may make 100 just for fun.

Tackle boxes would be awesome! Thicker, more heavy duty boxes in the 3700 sizes (all 37**) with four, three, two and one compartment :D

Why 3 hooks on such a small lure?

The middle one is 8" long and the top Mag Shad is 11" long. Those both will get 3 hooks going forward and the Super Cisco will remain with 2.

I put this one on hold until I got my new Mag Shad tested with 3 hooks. That is being tested right now and then both go into production for Spring sales.

Can wait to get some of these for sure ! Hope you end up offering them unpainted too. I would like to see a smallmouth and natural perch pattern much like the ones I sent you for your contest.
