There are always great bait/lure questions on here. But I'm curious... What is going to be your first bait in the water this season?

Mine will be the new 7" Shadzilla, completely weedless... or a custom glider that I am looking to get right before the season. But I have decided it will be one of the two, which ever one I choose I can guarantee you that the other wont be far behind.

A sucker hanging under the boat, then most likely a dbl 8 or weagle.

My first bait in the water this year was a Hellhound. Didn't attract a fish, but nothing really did that day.

Depends on the weather and water clarity. Most likely one of these; Hellhound, Jr Cowgirl, Pacemaker.

I forgot to say that if the season opener calls for trolling, I will be using a set of Baker Baits. I am a fan of his normal 5" lures, but love his larger sized-model that he just started selling.

Bingo !

It all depends on where your fishing,.... and the atmospheric conditions........................Pre Spawn or post spawn,? . If you go in to the first day of the season with preconceived notions of what lure your going to throw,... that may not be the right lure for the conditions, and you may get skunked........Like I have , a few times in the past....

Every new season opener is different....... Early. late.....cold, warm,.... sunny,....rain/snow,....weeds,...no weeds,...water levels,...windy,... calm,...Etc,etc,...

If your a "Good" musky hunter you'll wait untill you are on the water opening day
to choose the right/ magic lure to throw.

Good Luck, and have fun.

H2O, you don't have any sentimental faves that get the first few casts? Doesn't mean the first bait that gets wet is the one your fishing with all day, but is more likely a "special" one. And usually their special for having produced results. One of my hawg wobblers will still get first bill casting, shortly after that it'll more than likely be a heavy dose of small blades real shallow to find some fishee's!

They move more like a leo. They are a little more sensitive than a leo as it took me time to realize to not jurk the bait as much to get a true movement out of the bait. Once I figured that out, it quickly became my favorite casting bait. To me, it is a relaxing bait to throw with great results!

I have been buying them since early last year. I am not sure how long they have been in business, but I really suggest trying one out. My favorite colors are the bass and perl in 9" prowler. I also like the 6" lures for pike fishing.

Those Lunge Lumber baits are nice. Got a fish on one the first day out. For me- I think I may use some of those Baker Baits. I have done fish on them in the past and mostly troll so, lol. They also caught the 2nd largest musky on Chautauqua last year according to Muskie Inc records from 2011. Yeah, gonna try those I think.

Ooooh comeon Jerome!!! You know you will be throwing either a weagle or 2 pounder (I heard that's your new favorite bait...). Unless you're in KY, then my bet is on a trap or that big ugly orange and black chunk of wood...oh yeah, it's called a reef hawg in some parts...and it does catch fish!!!

-Jake

P.S. Probably a pounder, mag sue or jackpot for me.

Brian, how's it going ?
I try to get out a little bit before the opener and see whats happening out there on the water ,....Temps,weeds, bait fish, ect,ect... but I guess I do like to throw a Weagle quite a bit on opening day........Have a good season.
