Posts: 2089 | There are some discussions about it going on right now. How about $250,000?????? Careful what you wish for and start saving your pennies. An event of this magnitude will take LOTS of time and effort to put together. I wonder how much interest there would be in such an event. $2500-$5000 per team, just using hypothetical numbers. Hmmm.

Posts: 2089 | That's an interesting poll, but not really dealing with a High Dollar event. For a purse of 100K-200K, how many would be willing to ante up a couple G's, possibly each?? Like G-Rome said....Think Big! Based on the poll, it doesn't sound like there would be much interest in such an event. Also location would be key....how many would fish...say.... Mille Lacs, for a 5 day event? Lots of things to consider. Would love to hear more opinions on the subject. Edited by Steve Jonesi 3/6/2012 2:12 PM

Posts: 2015 | 25 teams- 5K per team (first to get their money in) 5 day format - one place matters - 100k payout. I think you could fill that easy. Heck you might get some "Vegas Guys" to come fish with those odds

Posts: 3147 | I was in the first mega/BobM tourney,,,If its not on a trophy lake I would not consider it,,,No way Id go to Eagle River and sort through 34 inchers no matter how much the chamber of commerce kicks in,,Its not JUST about the cash only its about the 3 days vacation and time spent too

Posts: 144 Location: Loves Park, IL | A paid judge boat w/ video camera for each boat fishing, with a purse that size. 30 teams/$5K each team. Maybe pay down a few places, door prize money, host site costs, insurance, etc. Organizer could still walk away with a few bucks. Have it on LOTW or another place with plenty of fish. It would be a fun event.

Posts: 2015 | Probably to many loop holes for LOTW - was I reading a thread that you cant take a fish less than 54" out of the water .....have it on ML of V first week of Nov.

Posts: 3147 | first week of Nov is risky,,freeze up not likely but possible,,,less daylight,,possible safety issues with cold water temps,,the positive is bumping into primetime ciscoe spawn and BIG fish video

To all those who dont like the judge boats, the best of having them is that you have a witness, still have a picture and someone who is there to see that the fish has a good release, per the PMTT if the fish dosent make it, you are done for the day. Very easy to take a picture of the fish on the board but like golf with a lot of money on the line how many guys would call a foul on themselves and take themselves out of the tournament if the fish went belly up on them when released. Just a thought.

Thanks Top H20 you prove my point. No I dont believe that they have had a release go belly up, my point. Other tournament such as some on LSC that have boats trollind 3-4 miles per hour catch a fish and put it in a livewell on board and revive the fish and toss it over without stopping the boat god forbid with all those lines out to stop and make sure that it was a good release. Ask the locals if they ever find floaters after one of those tournaments. By waiting for the judge boat everyone has to stop and put all your effort into protecting the fish. Isnt that the main critisim of the tournaments is the lack of care for the fish.

Posts: 119 | that kind of money on the line sure gets the interest and blood pressure elevated, even for a casual observer. hold your nose and get ESPN to sponsor the thing, and shoot musky fishing popularity into orbit. Ultimate fighter was once banned from pay t.v. - too violent and obscure - but climbed all the rungs. Why not Musky tourneys. Sure beats B.A.S.S.

Posts: 432 Location: mpls | I am doing fine, and it sounds like a lot of others are as well. I'd pay a large entry to have a chance at a BIG payout. It is not for everyone even during the best of times. So please post you view somewhere else.. This is a fishing forum, let's keep it that way.

Posts: 663 | I can imagine that once every few years or so someone would attempt one of these big dollar tournaments. I can't imagine it becoming anymore than that. Musky tournaments just don't generate the kind of public or promotional interest that the bass or walleye tournaments enjoy. Sure you can scrape together a field of guys to do this once in a blue moon but there really aren't enough anglers with the kind of scratch to do this more than every now and then. Not sure what promoters would want the headaches associated with organizing a mega tournament but then I guess there are enough big egos out in the musky world that would tackle an event like that just for the glory. Oops did I just say that?

Posts: 3147 | $2500 in one shot for a BIG payout is better then doing a trail where gas, lodging, time off from work makes it impossible to almost break even megas you could get paid,,,trails are softball leagues your in it for the fun

I would pay more ($5k) to fish an event with a smaller field (25 boats). That would be sweet.

Posts: 1516 | uptown, you are entirely correct. I was trying to make a joke, but your right this is a fishing forum and there shouldn't be any hint of politics on this forum. Unless the subject is spearing or netting by the native americans then it's open season.

Posts: 51 Location: chisago city,mn. | I remember not that long ago the Hartman tournament seemed like a great tournament.Fair entery $400.00,good payouts 18,000.00 on full field I think 100 boats was always close to full. Then I think he was bought out for 4 years? Not sure on that.I think the best way for a large entery/payout is to even the field PRO-AM tournament.Would you pay 2000.00 to 5000.00 against Hammrenik on Mille Lacs? The last time ther was a tournament on Mille Lacs $400.00 entery 7 teams don't know what happend there.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | No truth at all. Suffice it to say I'll happily let the competitive muskie angling world do whatever it does into the future. Our only involvement will be offering sponsored OutdoorsFIRST coverage wherever that might apply, and helping with the KWM. We will be providing coverage of the PMTT this season, brought to you by St. Croix Rods. I am looking forward to that, should be fun to point our cameras at Muskie anglers again. Paul never left; he was involved as an equal partner all the way until the effort was shelved.
