Time of year, body of water, trolling speed, trolling depth, size of expected average fish and the rods/reels you're using all factor in. There are hundreds of good trolling lures you could use and many different trolling bites that vary regionally, seasonally etc. Great Lakes, tiny puddle for row trolling, big Eastern river etc. There are probably guys here that fish the same water as you at similar times of year that can steer you towards the styles of baits that typically work best.

There is alot of good ones to choose from.
The old stand bys- Jakes, Grandmas, believers and depthraiders
If you are looking more for handmade baits, wood baits or customs
Big game makes some good ones The 7.5" scuba diver is a great one and the 8" or 9" twitch bait trolls good shallow also-will be at show
Muskie Train any of the MX line up will get the job done lots of big fish have been caught on them. The Diesel is a newer one that has been catching lots of fish the last 2 years. -will be at show
Zach Baker also makes a great crankbait that trolls well but don't know if you can get them at Chicago show?
Wiley makes a great bait also thats caught tons of fish but he does not make many any more they can be hard to find. They will not be at show.
Loke is a good one also don't know if these will be at show either
Good luck lots to choose from

Any of the Slammers (The new plastic versions are much stronger and seem to run more true/consistant out of the box)
Jakes
Grandmas
Depth Raiders

I would love to try the Supernaturals & Headlocks but the cost is tough to swallow.

You've got to figure cost vs value. Supernaturals and Headlocks are built to last. They're not going to fall apart, get knocked out of tune or fill up with water from a little use. If you've never seen them in action, you need to. I don't know of any other baits that have the action and natural mild erraticness as these baits, best natural "triggering" type movement in the water I've ever seen. Don't need to fill a box with them, get 1 or 2 in a color style you have confidence with and see what happens.

I seen the video of these baits Brian and love the action but as I'm sure you know trolling Vermilion and LOTW can be hard on baits and I would hate to see the rocks eat them up.

yeah i know, that lure catch fish, have a great ac tion, but i still dont think it worth $90
have a look at bwb,franky baits,hose baits .............
im my opinion their paint job and their shape are way more complex to do,i just feel more proud to spend that kind of money for these kind of lures.

I like to troll weighted sledges out the shallow side and headlocks on the deep side.
BTW, headlocks are $70 at thorne and mine was $56 on sale. Not bad for for the 3 fish I've caught on it so far. Don't forget the big rubber baits make good trollers too.

I love the action of the Muskie Train Diesel, but the hooks are awful. Swap em out if you want the fish to stay on your line.
Salmo's have nice action too.

Yes the Diesel is a good one. I have caught alot of fish on it and never straightend a hook out. vegas -try loosening your drag.
Hooker is another good one for trolling.

Don't forget The Musky Magnet made by Kermit Good over on St Claire. Unbelievably great wandering smaller cranks, and his big ones, jointed and straight are great too. They have brought home the state record in Michigan, some big fish for us on the bay, and some big fish on the Madison chain in WI too. His new Goby is really cool and is already a producer. Kermit is a laid back cool dude to talk to as well and makes his baits by order only.

Do you know where the Musky Magnets are sold or where I can get info? Did a search and couldn't find anything. I am looking for some good "wandering" cranks, recommendations welcome.

just dont forget to put some bigger treble hooks(8/0 3551).remove the middle one and relocate further back just near the joint or you will get them always tangeled and you will lose a lot of fish(kind of shallow invader problem)
dosn't hold short line trolling at high speed but pass 20 feet they run good at 4 to 5 mph
i dont know how the lil one are acting but this is what i know of the 9 inch.
solid lure made out of hard wood, paint job stay on the lure for a long time compared to the others. btw goby is out since 5 years
