Posts: 538 Location: northern indiana | So, of all the pics and poses that you see, what are your favorites??? Me personally, the pictures I enjoy seeing the most, are those of the fish being released. Maybe that's why I get so excited when I see a 50"+ beast behind my bait working it's way to the boat. Atleast I know they're in there. ![]()

Posts: 172 | I like the unexpected moment picture. Bad picture, head crop off, fish shaking when held etc. It's not perfect but it say a thousands words.

Angles angles angles. If I've got the camera, I'm constantly taking pictures when someone boats one. Often, my favorites are when the guy thinks the photos are over and turns slightly to put the fish in the water. A broadside shot of a fish is OK and definitely has its place, but the ones that really capture your eye are ones that show the width of a fish's head or back (lots of Jerry Sondag's photos do a good job of this). Those are the ones that make you say WHOA aloud. Over the shoulder release shots are neat (I like the above one), but the famous Jack Burns release shots take the cake, IMO. A nice touch is when the person is looking at the fish vs. looking directly at the camera; sort of gives a sense of reverence and respect to the fish (see above release shot). Fill the frame and zoom with your feet if necessary. Action shots (hook sets, a rod doubled over while fighting a fish, a fish jumping, a fish following, etc.) are rare when muskie fishing and their elusiveness alone makes them supremely more interesting than a grip-and-grin shot. BTW, the above release shot is excellent. Without pixel peeping it appears tack sharp, has no background distractions, the eye is naturally led to the muskies eye and then to the angler, great lighting. Nice work.

Posts: 170 | I don't frequent or comment on the boards too much anymore, although release pic topics (and the ones where people aren't constantly gigging each other) are the ones of interest. Here are two of my favorite release shots I have. Nice pic's above too!! Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | I love the picture of the fish taking off throwing water. If that was me releasing the fish, I'd have my face down a little lower more at the level of the flying water. At least that is what I do. ![]()
