Posts: 230 | Hey all, I'm looking to get a hatcam for my birthday, coming up in October. Can anyone recommend a good model in the $100 to $200 price range? Also, normally how much video can you record with these? Thanks!

Posts: 146 Location: where the fish are... | this topic has been covered 50 times haha a search would be good. I have a go pro hd which retails at 300 then you need extra batteries at $100 and x amount of 32gig cards at 60+ a pop, this is not a cheap investment. Everyone will argue the vio or go pro, I love the versatility of the go pro, can go on a stick and mount in the water, your head somewhere on the boat. Good Luck tho

Location: Not far enough north! | Ive Got a Wildgame innovations AC5x camera. It was pretty cheap and takes pretty good video. I posted one of a figure 8 fish a couple of weeks ago. The battery does not last very long though but it will give you a few hours in the summer not as long when its cold. I am gonna get a couple extra batteries this fall for deer season. I think I can get 4 hours of HD video with an 8 mega pix sd card.. The microphone works alot better when it is not in the waterproof case but on a lake I'm not gonna chance it...

I never knew these existed until my cousin showed us a video tape of her netting her Dad's musky. Great quality video and great price.

Good Luck tho I searched in both the Tackle And Equipment forums and General discussion and they didn't reveal much. Thanks for the info guys, I looked into some models on hatcam.com and they have some nice ones at a good price. I'll check into GoPro and some of the other models.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Jason, Do you have a picture of your GoPro on your hat holder? That is one of the accessories I will make sure I get when I buy these for resale. I was also thinking of the chest mounting rig for the GoPro but was not sure with all of the casting and arms in front of the camera....

Posts: 101 | I have the GoPros but I just bought a new camera called a LidCam. It is very light, fits on the brim of your hat, and is super easy to use. Video quality is 720p and it has 2 zoom features. Downside: is the internal rechargable battery only lasts 3 hours. It does come with a wall charger and cigarette lighter charger so you can charge it in the boat. I also comes with a 2GB micro sd so it's ready to go right out of the box. I got it for $150 at ACE Hardware. Check it out... http://rhinoutdoors.com/lid-cam-instruction.php

Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The VIO POV 1.5 is superior in that it loop records, so one can set a timeframe and when something of note happens, hit 'tag'. The last 15 minutes (or whatever timeframe one chooses) is saved. A 4 gig card will last forever, because one is only saving what one wants to edit to the SDHC card, and editing is a snap because only video worth editing is saved.

Anybody have any videos from their hatcams to post here? I honestly don't know if you can post videos on here. If that's the case, does anyone have links to videos?

Well that just made my day. That's incredible. I was a little apprehensive about the idea of a hatcam because I wasn't sure how "watchable" the footage would be. I thought the camera would be all over the place and it would be shaking from being in waves and stuff, especially since it's attached to your head rather than beind held by a professional cameraman. It really didnt seem to be that much different. Very cool. And it's so much better than just a picture of the fish itself. Definitely gives everyone that doesn't actually fish a perspective of what's going on out there. I didn't see a lot of guys wearing bucket hats sitting around putting worms on their hooks.

Posts: 230 | Jason, great video, thanks for sharing! Those figure eights were awesome to watch first person. And I saw a lot of blue rods in the boat! Sworrall thanks for that video as well, you also got some great footage!

Posts: 78 | Dude don't listen to whoever said A gopro is 300 dollars plus 100 for extra batteries.. lol.. the most expensive 1080 version u can get for 260 dollars.. You can get a Gopro 960, which obviously records up to 960p, or u can record in 720p.. which is what i set it too so i can record for a full 8 hours.. The extra batteries are 20 dollars a piece.. and last 2.5 hours sometimes longer.. I bought 2 extra for 40 dollars.. The gopro960 is 180 dollars, plus 40 for 2 extra batteries.. That will give u 3 in total.. then if you get a 32 gig SDHC card, which u can get for 50 dollars you are looking at just under 300 dollars for everything... The 1080p version is a lot more expensive, and you can't record for very long unless you plan on getting 2 32 gig cards. 1080 video takes up a ton of space and ur card would fill up quickly. here is another video with me, and Jason and another friend we did recently. I posted this elsewhere, but for those who want a sample of what the cameras can do. I mixed Jason and I's footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDp2hUMrUIU another one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DTPGb3kFKU and this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL9kFVCDeN0 That should give you enough sampling

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Here's a hatcam video from the DVD I'll be releasing later this fall. It's a little hazy out and some glare coming off the water but the topwater strike is one of the best I've ever captured on video. The lure is a 8" Phantom Viper Softail
