Well I think that the muskie have got the word that summer is here. Fish are just now showing up on rocks but rock weed combo is also very good. Water temps on main lake are about 69-70 and back bays are in mid 70's. Water is very clean and easy to see them coming! Things broke loose yesterday in that I raised about 30 fish and boated 6. Big girls are showing up on summer spots but are a little lazy right now. Top water and buck tails are best producers right now. Weed growth is catching up after some cold fronts and rain in late June. It's game on!

Rocks had lots of fish today and again raised some nice pigs but they are still not real responsive to baits. The isolated mid lake stuff is still not great but island complex's and rock saddles are real good now. Main lake water temps are great and more stable warm weather for a while. So lock and load!

Drive safe Mike!

Fished the Angle area July 3rd-8th. Water temps started in the upper 60's and finished in the mid 70's on the afternoon of 7/8. Considering how stable the weather was were somewhat disappointed in the number of fish seen. We found most of the active fish on straight rock. Tried some weeds and rock/weed combos with very limited activity.

Landed a very fat and personal best 47.5 other fish in our boat were 46, 42.5, 37, 37 and a number of other shorties. We moved fish mainly on small crankbaits and gliders. We struggled to get fish going on bucktails but I'm sure they are only a couple days away from going nuts. Moved one supertanker 3 times but could not get her to go as usual.

Will get pics up shortly

Strange? That word about sums up this July on LOTW so far. The fish are acting strange and it has many a little perplexed? Seeing lots of fish and seeing lots of big fish. The last couple days my boat raised 6 different 50 inch class fish and another 10 or so upper 40 inch fish, but getting them to go has been a hard task. Some nice fish are being caught but the majority of the musky anglers are experiencing the same attitude or lack thereof. The lake is perfect and that’s what is so strange. Water temps are in the 72-74 range and water clarity is outstanding. Weather is stable and will be stable for the next week.
The big fish are following and going into 8’s but then it’s like they go lazy and have very little interest in eating. Very frustrating! The top water bite is also a little disappointing with nippers and short hitting fish. The top water bite and aggressive behavior was 10 times better 3 weeks ago when water temps were in the mid 60’s.
Seeing 20-30 fish a day so they are showing up! When you do find a hot fish it’s hot!
Windblown rocks and tobacco cabbage/rock pockets and shoreline are holding fish. The fish are where they should be, and bunched up together. See one and you’re likely to see 3 or 4 together.
The other observation I have made is that there are a couple short feeding windows each day.
Keep thinking that they will bust lose any day…maybe tomorrow!

Still boating about 2-4 fish a day so it's certainly not terrible, just strange to see so many big fish with the same attitude.

I was up there last week...your analysis is pretty much spot on to what I found MuskyTime. You would fish 5-6 similar type spots and one of the spots would hold several fish at a time literally yards from each other while the others were dead. Lots of " where did that fish come from?" follows , and they definitely were acting strange boatside, I was able to get some of those fish to strike after they turned away by going as deep as the rod will let you go on figure 8's..Seemed like each day more and more bigger fish came out to play but getting them to hit was tricky. Topwater action was pretty disappointing as stated. Smaller blades were the ticket in my boat

Wow turn off the furnace! HOT weather has water temps in the upper 70's to low 80's. Fish are still a little lazy but some nice fish are being caught. Rocks and rock weed combo's are holding fish. The bloom is starting to rear her ugly head in some area's of the lake, south east is the worst at this point.

Hot weather will continue for another 5 days so no end in site.

Jackpots are getting more strikes than top raider style baits and DCG and smaller buck tails are bot effective.

Hi Duper,

$300/day plus gas.

Have openings Wed, Thur, Friday next week.

Looks like we have some cooler temps coming in for the weekend. That will be nice and lower the water temps a bit.

One thing that has been working well for clients and myself the past week, has been throwing gliders and jerks rather than buck tails. I have been treating the fish as if it were fall. Warm water temps and just plain lazy fish are eating slower moving baits. Hellhounds and manta's have been working well! Lots of big fish around and lots of fish! Cool couple of days has lowered the water temps a bit and I think the fish are ready to go cazy!

Hi Jim,

It was nice to talk with you and Lynn as well. We will have to share a boat one of these times for sure!
Fishing is getting better or at least more consistent. Pretty much rocks or nothing at this point. Water temps are in the 71-74 range with some surface temps pushing 76 late in the day. Bloom is not an issue and some parts of the lake are very clear. The buck tail bite is going pretty good with DCG’s starting to pay off on following fish. Some fish have actually started eating at the end of the cast. LOL The top water bite is still a little tricky with slower moving baits like jack pot’s getting hit more than fast prop type baits. Glide baits and jerk baits are still taking some fish so it pays to have someone throwing wood in the back and a buck tail up front. Still seeing lots of big fish but still a struggle at times getting them to eat.
Couple guys in camp last week only threw suicks all week and they boated 25 fish. Just a very strange summer on the woods, that much I can say.

Everything, everywhere. We moved all our fish, including big ones, on rocks. Others had all their success in the weeds and slop. We caught the majority of our fish on blades, but that's because we could fish them the fastest and cover the most water...but we also moved and caught fish on gliders, crank baits, and topwater lures. Color preferences changed daily.

just got back from my first crack at LOTW....a quick 4 day trip but well worth the effort...and drive...our boat (2 guys) put 22 in the net and lost 11 (ouch) in the 4 days ......other buddys put 14 in the net in a 3.5 days.. 51 and 50.5 were 2 biggest....so they are eating...most of our fish were on bucktails from 8 to 10s..but some fish were fooled by topwaters and jerkbaits...we got 50% of the fish we raised to hit ... a lot of figure 8 action...fish were all over at times like Chris says...biggest fish we moved were in weeds... smaller fish (sub 42ish) were moved on rock alone....quite a fishery up there

I've heard a lot of people talk about Wonder Bay, but I cannot find it on the 6216 map. Can some let me know where it is?

Or are Quandary Bay and Wonder Bay one and the same?

Thanks,
Zach

"The" Wonder Bay isn't labeled on the map. Check out some spots and find your own wonder bay.
